Head to Head: $40 Sega Dreamcast HDMI adapters - Kaico vs. Pound
While VGA remains the recommended option for 480p output on the Sega Dreamcast, not all displays support this and many retro gamers may prefer a comparable HDMI solution for their home entertainment setup.
There's no shortage of HDMI offerings for Dreamcast, and two of the more popular affordable entries are adapters sold by Pound and Kaico. Both offer adapters for $39.99, and both utilize the Dreamcast's native VGA 480p capabilities, converting the signal to HDMI.
I've owned the Pound adapter for two years and just bought the Kaico adapter this week. A fellow content creator friend asked how the two compared and I couldn't find any head-to-head comparison videos.
So I'm pleased to present...

Tough call. Pound looks a lil brighter looks a lil washed out. However some details come thru that I didn’t see on the Kaico. I guess they both have bonuses

@@thiagofacanha2081 Game Gear adapter only works on Retron 5. SMS slots work on most systems that support SMS play.

Hyperkin does surprizingly good consoles more so for those prices. I have retron 5 and it is really good.
What were the symptoms before you swapped the laser? I ask because I just picked one of these X’Eyes up and the cd doesn’t read. I do see a red light coming out of my laser, but the disc doesn’t spin and the gear motor doesn’t move the laser down the rail. 🤷♂️ Cart side works fine.

I don't know what happened with your Sonic 2 and knuckles, but it works just fine on my console.

Do they make a lighted marquee for the partycade Asteroids? I've got a nice partycade Defender I just bought that has a lighted marquee, but the Asteroids I bought with it does not and I'd like to upgrade the machine. Thanks.

You can get these Squeept! wideners for $1.99 on eBay. Highly recommended if you're getting error messages nagging you to put a disc on the turntable. This showed up via DHL literally right after I posted my #RetroGameMail video. I felt this needed to be included. This fits JVC X'Eye (which has a Mega Drive-accommodating cartridge slot), but you'll need to modify the cart (use a donor Genesis cart), or use some sort of pass-thru for other U.S. Genesis/Sega CD setups. About $36 on eBay. Incredible price.
