IMO incomplete pass because receiver didn't maintain possession when hitting the ground. I think if this same play happens outside of the end zone it's a easier to call but either way receiver didn't maintain possession.
1st and 10, R ball on the 11 yard line where the catch was made. ?
I've got a touchback, although the ref is right there and didn't call it.
white hat pointed that he caught the kick on the 1 and carried it into endzone. That would not be a touchback. Wing official finally came in and called it a touchback. I believe the white hat had it right.
@@ronnieelkin6596 Hard to tell. The overhead angle looks the ball broke the plane of the endzone before he touched it. Hard to tell, though. The smart thing, obviously, would have been to just leave the ball alone.
State Championship is irrelevant.. Unless referring to Instant Replay, which some states use during the HS finals (Michigan being one)... This is an incompletion in HS, and at all levels for that matter.. 'Element of time'... Just having a hand or two on the ball does not mean possession. A player has to demonstrate some element of control and that is time. If in the process of making a catch the receiver is going to the ground then he has to hold on to the ball for some 'time'... 5-man the LOS has this ruling, BJ may be able to offer some information.. 7-man this is the DW ruling, LOS can help with inbounds, BJ may have information on the catch/no catch.
Incomplete. When going to the ground, the player must maintain possession all the way through the process. Unfortunately I'm not sure if NFHS words that any differently, but this is a college clip.
I agree with Overmeyer, because as a Michigan fan he more than anyone else should know what an incomplete passes and dropped balls looks like.

With coronavirus sequestering we all have a little more time on our hands. With no public gathering for training let’s do a little online training to have a little fun and keep up our spirit .This play generated a lot of discussion even after our March training session ended. Let’s all take a look at the play and comment on it. Please don’t just say “ Touchdown “ or “ Incomplete “ , justify your judgement , perhaps using the rules. I have put this out to officials nationwide and there are differing views.Lets hear your judgement. Thirty seconds left in the State Championship ...the Offense down by six ....Is this a Touchdown or not and why ? Comment below...
The second clip shows the receiver with the ball in his possession in the opponents endzone, touchdown. Hopefully the officials got together and over ruled the incompletion signal
I've got incomplete.. If I'm that official in the video after seeing the ball pop out I would go incomplete just as he did. From that angle it's hard to know how long the receiver had possession of the ball. Even in replay, I don't think possession was maintained long enough.
