SAFETY VIDEO - KCWG - Planer Safety
Просмотров 742 месяца назад
Like a jointer, the thickness planer removes material from the surface of a board. It can be distinguished from a jointer in that the cutter head is mounted above the feed table to remove material from the upper face of the board. It is used to smooth and flatten the second face of a board that has been jointed, ensuring that the two faces are parallel. Safety Rules 1. Adjust the planer to remo...

The Band Saw has a thin blade in the form of a continuous loop. It is useful for cutting curves, resawing, and cutting thick material. Safety Rules 1. Before turning on the band saw, make sure that the blade tension lever is in the “On” position and that the blade tracks in the center of the wheel treads when you rotate the wheels by hand. 2. The teeth of the band saw blade should point down to...

The drill press is used to drill holes precisely and with repeatable accuracy. It has a motor driven head with a chuck that accepts bits or cutters. It also has an adjustable table on which the work is mounted. It is operated by pulling a rotary lever that lowers the drill bit into the material. Safety Rules 1. Make sure the size of the bit is within the capacity of the drill press. 2. Do not e...

Jointers are used to prepare stock for making joints by smoothing and flattening an edge or surface of stock. They have high-speed rotating knives that remove material from the bottom face or edge of the board as it is pushed past them. Typically a jointer is used to make one face of a board flat, straight, and smooth and to make one adjacent edge flat, straight, smooth, and perpendicular to th...

SAFETY VIDEO - KCWG - ShopFox 15 Belt Sander Safety
Просмотров 192 месяца назад
These sanders are similar to thickness planers in that they remove material from the upper surface of a board. However, instead of using a series of rotating knives and shaving the material, they use a sandpaper belt to abrade it. The sanding medium spins above the workpiece, which feeds past it on a conveyer belt. Safety Rules 1. Use these machines to sand only workpieces 6" long or longer. Sh...

Hollow Chisel Mortiser The hollow chisel mortiser is a specialized woodworking machine used to cut square or rectangular holes in a workpiece-most often to cut mortises for mortise and tenon joints. Similar to a drill press in many respects, it combines the cutting of a four-sided hollow chisel with the action of a drill bit in the center. The bit clears out most of the material to be removed, ...

These sanders are for surface or edge sanding of nonmetallic materials only. They may be used for many types of rough end-grain sanding and simple shaping. Safety Rules 1. Power driven sanders can cause serious abrasive skin burns from accidental contact with the abrasive. Failure to keep your hands safely away from the abrasive may cause injury to the fingers and hands. 2. Before turning on th...

Hard to hear quests.
Excellent presentation David, Thank you
Could you post the RUclips address for the series on building the desk?
It’s in our Live videos December 2022 Skill Builder

Audio level is low. Have my speakers up all the way and still hard to hear. Other than that, good podcast.
The microphone for that guy in the middle seems to cut out.
What a beautiful project! Thanks for sharing
I really miss the Guild, I wish there was one like the Guild here in Joplin. It would be good to start one here in Joplin. Thank you for the good years when I was a member.
Great interview! Loved hearing more about Dave. What a great man. You both did a wonderful job on the podcast. CH
Great podcast and great to hear more of your story Kenan. And I agree Dave Kraatz is the best! Nice job Kevin and Kenan!
Graphic animation during intro has "Woodwokers Guild."
Good stuff! Thanks Kevin and Norm!
Thanks everyone for your efforts.
Really enjoyed this one! Nice work, great to know more about your story Norm.
Great job to both of you. Thanks Kevin for putting this together - and Craig it was nice to hear about your background. Well done. And I agree Marvel, I was an avid collector when I was a teenager!
Craig's finishing classes are excellent. I highly recommend them. I've been doing woodworking for 60 years and I learned a bunch. Thank you, Kevin for interviewing him, Russ A
Thanks, Russ. It’s a fun class to teach and having great students is a bonus!
Dear Rob, thank you Sir for this splendid Review/Overview! Kindest regards from Germany. ...got a shaper in my garage and trying to soak up all the info I can get, to get a better view of what it all can do. :)
Shop will not be open till Saturday afternoon due to Ben Hobbs class.
hi
@Jim Drummond" - "How, in your opinion, does this comapare to Shopbot Handibot?" - It looks like the Shopbot is a miniature gantry system. I have no experience with the Shopbot product.
@Russ Amos - "Can you cut dovetails?" Yes, I can cut dovetails. My preferred method is with a nice, fine tooth dovetail saw and well sharpened chisels... While it is possible to cut dovetails with the Shaper Origin it is not something it would be efficient at doing. Because the dovetail bit undercuts, you have the potential for ruining a workpiece if the bit is retracted too soon and pulled through. There is no way to turn-off the safety feature of the SO that does this. That said, if you go to the Shaper Origin RUclips channel, you can see a few demonstrations and on the ShaperHub there are instructions for doing the work and creating the necessary CAD files.
@Kevin Thomas - "why isn't it green then?" -- Festool does not own Shaper Tools, Inc. But both companies are owned by the parent company, TTS Tooltechnic Systems AG & Co. They also own Sawstop.
@Matt A "Does each person need to purchase their own bits?" Yes, and you would also need to purchase your own Shaper Origin too... ;) This is my unit, the KCWG does not own or plan to purchase one. They would not stand up to the abuse that happens in a shared shop space. You tend to take better care of tools when its your own money on the table.
@Mark Crowley - "Is the free for hobbyist version of Fusion 360 adequate?" Yes, absolutely. You will need to add the Shaper Plug-in from the Autodesk/Fusion library web page.
@Kevin Thomas -- "What is the name of the double stick tape and where is it available?" The brand name is "Intertape" and the model number is 591. It can be found in various widths on Amazon and other locations.
@Dave Rukavina -- "Do you have or use more than the three bits that come with?" -- Yes. They (Shaper) supply a 1/4" & 1/8" upcut spiral and a 20* engraving bit all 1/4" shank. I've added a 1/8" and 8mm collet. The 1/8" collet in particular is handy because I can use a much wider array of small bits. We will be adding a list of Amazon links either to this page or to the guild page listing a few of the bits I've picked up to try. Most are relatively inexpensive and if you pay attention to feed and speed they last.
