Does the thawed out water affect the water quality of the tank in any way?
One of my all time favorite movies
Mine too! I've been reciting lines to myself all day since seeing this 😂
Love that movie!
Can you paint it with fish in it?
Sure can. I'd cover the top of the tank to be safe
I feel like the comparisons weren't particularly precise and you glossed over the order of the ingredients and the differences in things like "whole" vs "meal". About 30 minutes in I had the strong impression that you had already decided, ahead of any actual comparison, that all foods had "pretty much the same stuff".
Valid points! I had looked at everything prior to the stream. I'd agree that things were somewhat glossed over, and an entire video could be made on "meal" vs. "Whole" As there are obvious differences. However, while there are differences, I have not seen any data out there that goes into the specific details and analysis of how one is or isn't better than the other. If you have a source that goes into the nitty gritty, I'd love to check it out! Along those lines, it's very difficult in our hobby to really get the truth data on what makes one food better than the other, as that would involve lengthy, time consuming and expensive testing and analysis to provide accurate data. I appreciate your response, and I do plan to dig deeper into various aspects of the topic as opposed to glossing things over, like you mentioned. The stream was kind of intended to get people thinking about what's in the foods we offer our fish, and what really makes one better than another. As opposed to simply taking a large majority of the YT creators opinion that "Food A is the best because it is." Many channels are "sponsored" and supplied with specific foods to hype up on their channels, and I think this leads to quite a bias. I'd love to get someone that really knows the details of fish nutrition to get their opinions and input on the subject! Thanks for the excellent feedback! These are great talking points!
@@All_Things_Fish Data is certainly missing particularly for ornamental fish foods. And I agree that coverage of fish foods is often tainted by commercial interests. I think the best we're going to be able to do is to compare foods based on metrics we "think" are better. For example, if we say that whole is better than meal; the farther in the ingredient list the binders are the better; and the closer the ingredients are to things a fish might actually encounter the better, then we could compare foods objectively. Of course, that assumes agreement on such metrics and that such metrics actually lead to better health. To be honest, years into the hobby I now fall into the "vast majority of foods are going to be fine" group. These days I worry more about whether a food sinks too fast or not fast enough; how long it holds together in the water; and can I buy an amount that matches how quickly I'll feed it so I don't have to throw out a bunch because it's too old.
Thanks Mike your video was very informative.😁
Thanks, Devan! I hope you found it useful!
I run aquarium coop sponge but never hurts to try other stuff
I enjoy trying new things! Even though they all function fairly similarly, maybe one of them works better for someone's specific situation than another!
What is that sponge type????
Ward ordered Poret foam from Swiss Tropicals to use for sponge filter media. It works great!
I crashed. I fully support whatever food you bought 😂
Also my rainbows don’t eat directly off the floor. They will flash their tail kick it up off the floor and then eat it
I've seen my rainbows pick up frozen blood worms off of the substrate if I feed a lot of them at once!
Hello do you use rodi water? If so how do you remineralize
@PodcastwithA.I yes, I do use RO/DI water, since my local tap water is extremely hard and not particularly clean. I use gH booster from NilocG Aquatics when necessary to add a slight amount if gH to my water.
@@All_Things_Fish thanks for the reply

This was the video i was talking about the fishroom with the built in shelves in the basement 😁
@@mexicalifishkeeper oh yeah! This was just a smaller room in my current basement that I used before my existing room got put up.
Well, I know what im doing today!
Easy solution, that I still use if I get lazy and end up with a bad infestation!
Cant say I blame you, looks really slick! I decided to hand pick this time and feed it to my chickens. 😋
I did this and my plants died
I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience attempting this. When it comes to using chemicals in/near livestock, whether its fish, plants, humans, etc, Concentration and Exposure Time are major factors. Too strong of a concentration of a particular chemical, or extended exposure time can lead to detrimental affects.
Good video mike.
Thanks, Devan!

I think you may have some of my favorite guppies in that bottom tank ❤ they look like hb pastels or whites?
@jodip719 those are HB white tuxedos. Despite being called HB whites, they can of display a little more of a very pale blue. Cool fish, regardless. I have plenty, if you are interested!
@All_Things_Fish I may take you up on that. I had gotten some from a guy, but they ended up with yellow in their tails, which isn't what I was looking for.
What a cool tour! I live in western Iowa myself (right on the Iowa/ Nebraska border). Have 16 tanks that we are breeding out of so far, but hoping to expand in the nearish future. My favorite fish from your tour are the corydoras eques. They are my bucket list fish. Curious where you guys source your fish from? Thanks for the tour!
@@jodip719 we get most of our fish from fellow breeders, whether that's through online connections, people we have met at events, or the local swap meets! Omaha has a couple swap meets every year, as well as Des Moines. The largest in the area is definitely the Quad Cities swap, though! Buzz me an email, we probably aren't far from each other, and it's always nice to meet like minded folks!
@All_Things_Fish I've gotten a few of mine from another breeder in lincoln, ne a few times. My husband and I did go to the fish swap in omaha earlier this year and waiting for the next one. Would love to check out the quad cities swap next year though! I will send an email to you.
@@jodip719 that's awesome. Sounds great. I look forward to chatting with you!

Hello, does this work well for cladophora algea too?
This will work with clado. As with any algae issue, I recommened manually removing as much as possible before treating.
I have it on plant roots will this kill my plants or is it safe still? Also is the okay if you have crustaceans?
@ryanresch6925 your plants should be just fine! Exposure time and concentration are key. If you soak a plant in peroxide, it'll do some damage. But if it's just for a short time, the plant should be A-okay. Your crustaceans should be okay! Again...time and concentration are what can lead to potential undesired affects.
@@All_Things_Fish I just got some and will try today! Thanks for the suggestion and detailed explanation.

Good listen... I'd be curious if any of your thoughts have changed since this stream, even tiny nuances here and there. What I do find most interesting is the way we tend to talk about carbon, which you touched on. It's so involved of a subject that it requires its own video or stream, but how often does that stream or video ever happen? Like a full discussion of not just co2, but bicarbonates, all the "liquid carbon" BS, and the fact that carbon is the absolute bottleneck of most planted tanks. But I would wager there are far more fertilizer lessons on youtube that are completely devoid of carbon talk than there are lessons on carbon in planted tanks!
@StephenP2003 are you volunteering to do the carbon talk with All Things Fish ?
@@jeffkane4391I second this motion! Lol
For the most part, my opinions still remain fairly constant in comparison to the discussion in this video. They've changed slightly as products have developed and advanced over time, but the same principles still apply. I'd love to do an entire discussion on carbon in our tanks! I think that there are so few videos on YT about carbon itself(some on CO2, but still not as many as ferts) due to the vast majority of the hobby not having particularly high goals with regards to advancing their planted tanks beyond basics. They are happy with "good enough" for a long time. So a lengthy video on carbon in planted tanks might only cater to a fairly niche market...thus, limiting viewership which many people are solely driven by, unfortunately. Perhaps if someone, or a couple someones, could put together a solid video on carbon in planted aquariums, it might take some of the scare factor out of the subject and get more people's interest in pursuing it in their own aquariums!
I clicked and then saw 1 hour length! All right I clicked so let's go.
