    This "account" is confusing as it makes it sound like the encounter at the lone teepee was part of the battle when this was long before the command split up and where Custer gave Reno his orders to attack. I get the sense there was a translation problem and an embellishment by the 19th century transcriber who wrote something more than was said. He was with Reno by the account and retreated but got stuck in the crop of trees, still looking to grab whatever booty while looking to make it up to Reno's defensive position. The details like multiple messages issued to the scouts for President Grant is BS. Sorry, this whole thing is some white guy's romatic interpretation of a confusing native scout account.

    OK... so the "find" proves something... but why would you bother displaying two rusty pieces of deteriorated metal? of what visual value and worth is there... why would I even pay more than $25 dollars U.S. to show a piece of rust?.. Now find an intact clean sward, even if it's dull and tarnished and I'd pay $500,000 if I had it... that would be work owning and showing...

    Um - I hesitate to nit-pick, but here goes anyway! If a thing is "unique" it means it's the only one of its kind - thus it cannot be "two of only four" of anything, as these two gorgeous and exciting swords are described here. I know language has to evolve, but sloppiness in language goes against the true purpose of language: to communicate accurately.

    • @GavTatu
      @GavTatu 3 месяца назад

      the find is unique, not the actual swords. like, a hoard of coins might be found.....the find is unique, but it encompasses a bunch of coins. i dunno.... maybe ?!

    • @harryzero1566
      @harryzero1566 3 месяца назад

      Right on point, language is getting really sloppy, half the time you have to know demographic groups to assimilate what aome people are saying. BTW, gorgeous and exciting swords? If I passed them by visiting a provincial museum it's because I didn't find them so.

    • @dwh5512
      @dwh5512 3 месяца назад

      @SilverSquirrel I suppose they could have opposed the ruling elites and their one world government & after having killed two Roman soldiers and buried in the event they needed weapons in an overthrow attempt at some time in the future. Ha! You're right. Wild unsubstantiated speculation is fun. Have a great day sir.

    • @cartoonraccoon2078
      @cartoonraccoon2078 2 месяца назад

      @@SilverSquirrel I think you miss the point about how decrepit they are. No one "hid two swords" and we just found them. There were likely many more in the same area that are now nothing but ferric dust.

    • @SilverSquirrel
      @SilverSquirrel 2 месяца назад

      @@cartoonraccoon2078 Battlefields were extensively looted for weapons and armor. At Teutoburg forest most the metal archaeologists can find is just the hobnails from their caligae. There is no way two very expensive swords would be missed; they had to have been hidden and if they were hidden by a Roman legion there would have been hundreds, not two. In two thousand years archaeologists will probably dig up a couple of assault rifles, but they won't think that it was the American army that hid them or that they were somehow just left on a battlefield.
