Most of the videos are here are related to book and paper arts, but I sometimes make math videos, too This channel started out as a way for me to remember the things that I have gone down a rabbit hole thinking about, and that I want to remember. I probably reference the videos here more than anyone else!
There's always important details to keep track of when I am doing or teaching, so my reminders get parked here. Many of the videos are paired with a post on my blog, bookzoompa.wordpress.com/

Here is the simplest way to make the simplest pop-up. All you need is paper, scissors, and confident folds. Such a great way to get started in the three dimensional world of card making. This video is meant to accompany my blog post bookzoompa.wordpress.com/2024/06/10/a-simpler-way-to-teach-the-simplest-pop-up/

When I teach bookmaking to students I generally make a sample so that they can get a good idea of where we're headed. Here's a sample book made to use in my teaching a pop up book to third graders. This video is embedded in my blog post bookzoompa.wordpress.com/2024/06/10/a-simpler-way-to-teach-the-simplest-pop-up/

Dave Richeson's Boy's Structure

Dave Richeson wrote this post about making something called a Boy's structure. divisbyzero.com/2020/04/08/make-a-real-projective-plane-boys-surface-out-of-paper/ He designed an elegant template, so I had to make it.
Paper Toy, a foldable structure invented by Iris Sarid

Here's a clever structure based on the four symmetries of four squares which are attached together in a continuous loop. It's basically a transformable sculpture made from paper. For more info look at these two blog posts: bookzoompa.wordpress.com/2016/12/05/four-squares-each-folded-like-an-8-cut-pizza/ and bookzoompa.wordpress.com/2024/02/08/paper-toy-a-foldable-structure/
10 Seminole Patchwork with Paper

This week , session 10 ,we’ll be making something that’s different than most of the patterns we’ve looked at. The session 10 design is a single motif that can be made by itself or in a band. Here’s a photo of the what we will be making. Choose your own colors and background if you like. I recommend that you try to decipher for yourself what the bands will look like, and check your analysis with...

This week , session 9 ,we made an interlocking chain pattern. It requires two different colors for the chains, and one color for the background. Background strips (I will be using a yellowish green): four strips, 9 units wide, & two strips 3 units wide First Chain ( I will be using blue): One strip 3 units wide, one strip 12 units wide. Second Chain (I will be using light purple)) one strip 3 u...

The prep for this session is 12 strip of paper, each 2 units wide. Cut three each of four colors. Use some patterned papers if you like. You should like the way these colors look together. These should be glued down as usual on the number 2 Seminole lines paper, or on the Master Lines paper, to make three separate bands. Here' a photo to refer to bookzoompa.files.wordpress.com/2024/01/pxl_20240...

OOo thank you Paula - another wonderful video! You are so inventive - and teach your structures so clearly! I bet your students all love your classes!! x
Oh, they do! They certainly do and wait with bated breath for the next class! She is definitely one of my favorite teachers who is always bringing out the creativity in me!
Wooow, Paula. Thank you for decoding this beautiful pop-up for us!!!
Love this tutorial, thanks a lot Paula❤
You ended up here for a reason 😂 don't pretend this was not helpful! Thank you lady for this
Thank You Paula for this video!!! It was a lifesaver for me. I had 150 sheets to fold for a program, 4 sides. I started out by taping a ruler to the table that I used to slide the long edge of the paper up to. The ruler would be above your paper in the video. I would then align the opposite right edge with the left edge, but would offset it by 1/16" ( as suggested by one of the commenters for ease of opening the program). I would align and swipe across to the right as you did. I was having troubles with the paper laying down properly. I was using 32# paper for this project and was having trouble with that step. I found that if I slid my fingers across the page to the fold side, on a downward angle, instead of straight across, then up and down it worked much better. I thought I would add these comments, incase others were having the same issue as I had. Again I want to thank you for this video!! A true lifesaver!!
Hello does anyone know what size book this ends up being?

Paper Engineering - so good!
Is it doing voice overs while creating hebookbindings???
This is mostly for future reference, but hopefully someone else might find it useful. If s is shorter side of card, l is longer side and p is number of pockets: x = s × p y = 2s + l Add 1/4" to x and y. e.g. for 3x5 index cards, 4 pockets x = 3 × 4 = 12, plus 1/4" y = 2(3) + 5 = 11, plus 1/4"
Simple but effective thankyou, I'm folding 100 wedding invitations, wish me luck. 😂
Awesome! You'll be a star.
