Smocking Book Show & Tell + Dragonscale Smocking Demo!
I wrote a book! I was so honored to be asked to be a part of C&T Publishing's new cosplay imprint, Fan Powered Press and thought that a book about smocking from a costume making perspective would be super helpful to the cosplay community! In the book, you'll find an intro to both North American and English smocking as well as 20 different stitching patterns to try for yourself!
In this video, I do a walkthrough of the book as well as a general overview of smocking as well as a detailed demo of arrow/dragonscale smocking for folks to try out for themselves.

    I have owned a Bernina Activa 220 sewing machine for many years, and I have never been able to figure out why it would always grab my bobbin thread when I started a seam and make a huge knot. I actually hated the machine. After watching your instruction on how to correctly thread the machine, I have sewed today for the first time ever without bunching of the bobbin thread. Thank you!!

  • @Pip7-px3wq

    Yes, the bobbin should be inserted clockwise, I’ve owned a number of Bernina’s for 20 years they are all the same for bobbin direction

    I had a bag of popsicle sticks from Dollar Tree in the craft section. So I just glued 2 sticks together, also 3 sticks, for a little thicker seam. Probably cost me a nickle to do the same thing as a $10 plastic one.

    I did not know there was such a tool available, wow. I hemmed a pair of jeans today and had a heck of a time. I just hand cranked the needle through all that very slowly. • @Paisleyandglue
      @Paisleyandglue 2 года назад

      I think leaving a decent border of an inch or two is a good idea so you have plenty of space to finagle the smocking into whatever you’re making and still have seam allowance. Usually the smocking will make the edges of the fabric uneven so having some excess makes sure you don’t lose any of your smocking when you go to incorporate it into your project!

    So cool! I like the idea of using this in like venetian masquerade costumes or maybe Witcher cosplays for Jaskier and Yennifer! It might also be really helpful for rescue camouflaging melted or crushed pile if you made a mistake on velvet. Ooh and you could maybe use border stamps instead of (or along) with trim. I bet you could use it on suede too. Which makes me think of shoes and spats. (Plus camo for stained suede.) And using on velvets in combo with beading might be fun. So many possibilities!

      @@Paisleyandglue It occurs to me that for something as intricate as a boarder print you could stamp the ink through a stencil (perhaps with a foam stencil brush?) and go from there.
