April 8th 2024 :Solar Eclipse, Totality (Hillsboro, TX)
Well the Solar Eclipse here in Hillsboro, TX did not disappoint . First off thank you to Thomas and Emily for letting come to your property. The clouds stayed away long enough to capture some awesome pictures and video.
This image was captured with my @teleskop_service TS Optics 90mm CF APO Refractor and @fujifilmx_us XH2 camera with a solar filter. Guided using the @skywatcherusa EQ6R Pro.
I’ll have more pics and videos to come soon! #solareclipse #totality #solareclipse2024

    How do you get the Milky Way in color

    • @michaelstoffel9668
      @michaelstoffel9668 3 месяца назад

      A big factor is having really nice dark sky's, without light pollution. Then it's just a matter of getting the right settings on your camera. It's all dependent on what when and where you're shooting. Some phones can get some pretty good shots as well. Settings I use are Iso: 3200 (you might want to use a lower iso to reduce noise, but you can also stack images to do that and get better compositions) F/ 1.8-3.5 (the lower the better) Shutter speed of like 15-20 sec (going higher than that will start to cause very noticeable star trailing if you don't have a tracker) Play around with settings to get results you like, you may need to adjust white balance if you have a lot of light pollution. Happy shooting

      Also, that last photo is more than likely an example of image stacking.

    Just a quick tip. Dynamic Crop removes your registered embedded astrometric data. Do SPCC first, then crop later since it makes no difference, really, you should save cropping until your basically done. Then you can skip the step of re-plate solving your data. Not a big deal of course, just a little more efficient.

    Nicely done! I followed along as one of my first projects with PI trial and my own 12P data. Everything went smooth up to comet integration, you had a nice flat image after ABE but I had bad stacking border artifacts and weird color splotches in background and huge gradient corner to corner. I tried cropping and the other background/gradient tools but can't seem to fix it.

    • @astrophotoedits
      @astrophotoedits 7 месяцев назад

      Ok to do the StarXterminator batch process for starless only images, you open up StarXterminator -> process batch -> then on the “Output starless files to:” select a destination folder -> now you can select the “select input files and execute”, for this you will select the registered files , those should end in “c_d_r” from when you stacked the images. Then the process will execute. Then you use the comet alignment feature next. Sorry ! Hopefully that clears it up! The only reason I didn’t show it’s that it does take a while to process those images.

    • @astrophotoedits
      @astrophotoedits 7 месяцев назад

      I used my registered images from WBPP, they should end in “c_d_r”

  • @ToddBossaller
    @ToddBossaller 7 месяцев назад

    Great work on putting this together. The one issue I see is when you perform the initial steps for star alignment, then star extraction, the star extraction does not extract any galaxies or faint things in the background when you add the star only image to the comet only image later. The comet only image will have galaxies and other things blurred due to the movement of the comet. The only way to preserve this is to remove the comet from the star alignment image. That way the stars, galaxies, etc, are left intact, then you can add the comet only image to that.

    • @astrophotoedits
      @astrophotoedits 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I used Max because it is what I used on last years C/2022 E3 comet when I processed it. I don't remember why exactly. I think it could have to do with the residual star trailing that is present in the comet only aligned image.

    I am subscribing due to recent events 🙂 Seriously, I absolutely love your easy going teaching style, your attention to detail and how you are using the more up to date PixInsight tools for post processing galaxies. My only minor disappointment was that you didn't fully process in PixInsight, but your result when completing in PixInsight would make me quite happy as is. I am just learning PixInsight and so far when I try something (galaxies) on my own it flops. Before you mentioned who some of your influences were I remarked to myself that your work order reminds me a little of Lukomatico's approach. So far my only 2 successful PixInsight projects were based off of specific processing techniques of a couple of my captured data of Pleiades and the Rosette Nebula from Lukomatico's videos. I was looking for a recent video for processing galaxies in PixInsight and I am glad to have found your video! I see that you also have a video on processing Comet C/2022 E3. I am anxious to give this a try as I have some unprocessed data of this comet captured.

    The streaks are caused by the motion of the tracker. If we look up at the sky, these satellites would appear motionless. But as DSOs move across the sky, if they are near the equatorial plane, the streaking in your video can happen. So actually, its the DSO that is moving across the the satellite. :-)
