CULTURE BOX: DENMARK. Danes react to sayings about Danish culture
Are all Danes really tall, blond, and cold-resistant like Vikings? Do they feel like the happiest people in the world? Are they really crazy about liquorice? Danes from DTU share their opinion about these and many other stereotypes about Denmark and Danish culture.
This is the first episode of the series "Culture Box". In these videos, we are going to "unbox" different sayings about various cultures and to let people from the respective countries react to them.
Are you ready to open the Culture Box of Denmark, and to reveal which ideas about Danes are true and which are just a myth and stereotype?

"From Complex to Simplex" Video Competition Winners
Просмотров 1683 года назад
Last month, we organized a video competition called “From Complex to Simplex”. We asked DTU students to explain a complex theory of their choice simply and nicely as if they are explaining it to people who do not have any STEM background. It was great fun to watch them. We thank all applicants that participate in our video competition and congratulations to winners Yunus, Anastasia, and Bettina.

Your disclaimer at the beginning was SO PERFECT! I travel internationally a lot for work and watch a lot of videos learning about the countries I’m going to before I go. So many videos use broad generalizations and stereotypes and say them as representing everyone from a culture or place. It’s so important for people to understand that everyone is unique no matter what country they’re from and nobody can speak for millions of people. Your into said that so perfectly and it was so refreshing to hear!

They are DTU people and not representative. About the weight question, ehm, I think half the population weighs more than the median weight. And the Finnish people have taken over as the happiest, just because they consume more salmiakki.

As a foreigner having lived here for 13 years. The cold Viking blood is an absolute fallacy. I've never seen a culture as afraid and upset with the cold as the Danes. It like every winter is the first time. Puha de er pussys altså

The Viking culture actually where very advanced, as shown in a huge Viking Exhibition some years ago! They had the best ships for war and trade and the finest, best and most sharp weapons to find anywhere (Better metal than present iron). They also knew how to navigate the world, with the use of, before the Compass, tools, like polarized stones, able to show where to find the sun during fog and clouds, and discs with a stick and lines, to be able to navigate on the open sea, and still be at the same high.

I am somewhat bothered by how lightly Dannebrog (the Danish flag) is regarded in this presentation. It is much more than a birthday party or Christmas tree decoration. Dannebrog not only is the standard which graphically represents Denmark (in a similar fashion so does any national flag), it truly represents our bond (contract) as a people between each other, between the people and our king, and between our nation and God. If we use Dannebrog to decorate a birthday, it heralds to the day of our navnsattest (like a birth certificate only it's when we are appointed or "given" our name). Quite often this happens at is our birth baptism (a contract with God) when our parents record our name officially along with our birth date. If we use Dannebrog to decorate Christmas, it is still for many Danes to venerate the birth of Christ and acknowledge His name "Jesus" (Christ or Messiah is His title). Jesus is the new "Contract" between God and His creation. Dannebrog is of course the symbol of our nation, it precedes our constitution and even anticipates it. It is a contract between King, God and us, it is no accident that Dannebrog is the most beautiful of national flags representing the purity of Christ and the blood of His salvation Likeminded nations use this same graphical presentation and testimony (just look at the English flag, it is Dannebrog only with the colors reversed).

Concerning the Danish language: hvor sproget er min moders bløde stemme og som en sød musik mit hjerte når. (Our speech is my mothers' soft sweet voice and like a sweet music my heart draws near.) Few things will move me with pride and affection more than hearing it. Dig elsker jeg! - Dig elsker jeg! Danmark, mit fædreland!

The disclaimer just seems like the same reason I could use to say it is just my opinion black stinks. It's just an excuse for not doing science and just doing idiocy. Scientifically speaking black does not stink, it's a colour. You could find data to provide cultural tendencies, but no it's more fun to be offensive and use OPINIONs.

Cool video! Thanks to the author of the channel for this fascinating video! It is interesting to see how people live in other countries! It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!

‘Not all Danes are tall. I’m like only 182 cm’ Me: *165 cm short Dane, out an entire family of people between 150 and 175 cm* right Honestly though, I don’t feel short when around people, so they can’t be that much taller than me on average. It’s been a while since I saw a person and thought, ‘oh Wow, You’re really tall’ and I’m still shorter than the national average.
