hitting a button to dodge attacks is not out of the water for a normal guy. Your telling me that you cant sidestep? Yes this game has its flaws but so does every other game ever. Like name one game that nearly everyone can say that its perfect, you cant. Like you said in the vid, its been remade and just because you are upset with how its been done will not mean everyone will agree. I find the simplicity of it kind of fitting like you cant expect a store clerk to start using martial arts against horrors beyond your comprehension. The only reason for your distaste of this game is the combat of it, like silent hill was never about the combat only really the horror and the atmosphere of it. Is this game a masterpiece? no. Is it worse than the og silent hill 2? Mabey, that's for every player themselves to decide.

I prefer the original hands down but remaking this game for a modern audience seems like a fool's errand. The 'jankiness' of the original combat is because he hasn't had any combat training (unlike Leon Kennedy as you alluded to). Their solution was to multiply the total enemies by 4, give James slightly more competency in combat, and leave the story mostly unchanged to play it safe. It ends up playing like a poor man's "The Last of Us" and completely takes you out of the dreamlike atmosphere the original was going for. You weren't supposed to engage every enemy in Silent Hill 2, further demonstrated by the awkwardness of finding Pyramid Head's sword. It's objectively the best melee weapon in the base game (you can unlock a more flexible chainsaw) but has a 3-4 second wind-up animation and has you dragging it around painfully slow when moving. They could have done a half-measure, keep the fluidity of the new system with the monster count being relatively the same as the original and give him and the monsters clumsier animations with matching reaction times. James would still be able to hold himself in combat when required but psychologically, the players wouldn't be hunting for everything with a pulse.

I'm actually happy that the combat is as simple as it is in the remake. Combat has never been and should not be a focus of Silent Hill 2. It's just something on the side that should not distract the player from the plot, the atmosphere, the psychological aspects of the game. People don't play Silent Hill games for combat. With that in mind I think it's an excellent remake. The only negatives are some technical issues/stutters which the devs already promised to fix. They changed just enough to make it feel and look like a modern game without spitting on the original.

I assure you that no fan of the original Silent Hill 2 has ever said this remake was a masterpiece. People like me knew it would be trash the moment the first character designs came out; because if they don't understand the point of why the characters and monsters were designed the way they were in the original, then they have no business remaking this game.

I'm glad to see this remake was actually well received. But man I cannot ignore ( not the controls ) the damn RE REMAKE camera. I know forced perspective and tank controls are on the way out. But, if it weren't for the unique design and the fact we know it's Silent Hill. This would be mistaken as a RE successor. I like SH2 but it, like many remakes, is Missing some of its original flare. But at the end of the day, this is the closest we have to Silent Hills/FullPT. and that makes me happy.

That was also my point in using the melee weapons through most of the game and saving ammo. The combat was exactly the same for all enemies, not much for variety when you get used to how many swings are hits enemies do it’s smooth sailing

Worth 70usd? absolutely not. Is any game worth 70usd? also absolutely not. considering what the remake is based on? unless i'm missing something, the design is about a 75% improvement. can't excuse a lot of the jank but I dunno if i agree with dead space remake is a great example, the retcon of removing the silent out of the 'silent protagonist'. getting vibes that you had an experience where you focused primarily on the parts that triggered a negative emotional response and couldn't let them go. not sure if your bar was set too high or too low.

The nostalgia goosebumps are at 100% dude. Big on Tomba 1 more for me but both are so good. Such a difficult question but... Star Wars Jedi Power battles on ps1. Hidden gem but a TON of memories for me and game changing combat.

Oh yeah I remember the beta period. But man ever since the game came out, many master ranks have diminished the master rank. I have beaten a lot of Master Players. Most of them are WiFi with Modern controls. It's unavoidable. But that's just how it is.
