Susan Wayne - That's What I Love About You (1965)
Extremely rare "Girl Group" sound. Know virtually nothing about the artist herself. Edna Lewis and Tommy Boyce wrote some good stuff in the 60's, though. Producer Clyde Otis was an accomplished writer as well. Why this never got airplay, I'll never know.

Spanky and Our Gang taping for a Murray the K Special. Live vocals to a backing track. These are the cool and funny outtakes, with the group showing us a bit of their wit and personalities. A rare slice of 60's pop history.

This is a much funkier and soulful arrangement than Norman Greenbaum's version. BTW, if the voice sounds familiar, she was the lead vocal on the Edwin Hawkins Singers 1969 hit "Oh Happy Day",
She's singing this LIVE!
forget about the first 23 seconds and we sail with Spanky and the Gang .. go Peoria
Need a time machine to go back to the summer of love.
She could sing but not like mammals cass
You can take all the others app's.....just give me RUclips 🎶
I love your BEATLES footage. I saw them at THE HOUSTON COLISEUM. It was 100% HUMIDITY and GENERAL ADMISSION I was 7 YEARS OLD and my SISTER was 10. MOM STAYED with us from 8am to 8pm when they OPENED the DOORS. MANY PEOPLE TRAMPLED. Some FAINTED from the HEAT OUTSIDE. A memory I will not forgot.
This is awesome. Better than anything today.
Spanky sounded pretty good for having a cold/cough!
Wonderful times, those days. I was a carefree kid and my parents were still alive.
The Royal Guardsmen recorded it first and it sounds better.
Not sure about that. I've heard this version was first.
I would love to have heard her and Mama Cass collaborate! It’s also wonderful how she’s so real and coughs on stage! Happens to the best of us!!!
9:50 😊 too cute
Her strong voice is nothin to sneeze at a power house from the house on high GOD BLESS
What a great video too bad todays singers cant pull that off, Spanky had a great voice and was cute as a button.
Great to see Mungo from Blazing Saddles on the tambourine. No wonder they kept him in dark!
John “The Chief” Seiter. Impassive and poker faced.
Elaine still sounded wonderful even with a cough.
No auto tune. Nothing less than amazing. The talent there …❤
I agree...auto tune sucks .
'And they think we're weird' lol funny Spanky humor 😅
The One and ONLY - Spanky and Our Gang!💕🤸♂️
I love Elaine
Beautiful vocals voices singers guitarist!
This is why RUclips is an important app all these videos would be lost forever Thank you Bouldercool
The tape on this videoscope has such a great image quality for its time period, that it seems as though it was filmed last week.
From "Murray the K in New York," September 22, 1967.
This is amazing! Love to see them just being themselves. Of course we have the tape in the background, but they are performing live. Spanky shows her humanity with her coughing. The tambourinist is hilarious--he is excellent but always so serious and never sings. Love seeing what people could do in the '60s. This kind of performing never to be seen again.
he would sing eventually, at the end of the year
I discovered that the drummer actually did sing the falsetto part on lazy day which is pretty good actually and was surprised when I finally saw that never realized he was the one that sang that high part and I believe he is still alive the only one besides Spanky at least I'm pretty sure as of watching this and commenting now which is March 31st 2024 hopefully they are still both with us and healthy.
The Royal Guardsmen are a high school rock band from Florida at the time of this record, The Young Rascals were a New York band at the inception of a major career I like both versions and I know Eddie Brigati and David love both of their vocals however the Royal Guardsmen guy did a nice job.
So, it was Spanky who started the steampunk era.
Sooooooo much fun to see this
They don't need auto tune.
I’ve seen this same video where the recorded version of SWNBTS is dubbed over this live version. I much prefer this version. The music here is canned, but the vocals are live, and they show how great SAOG really were. Elaine McFarlane had such a powerful voice, and the male background singing is just superb. There aren’t many truly live performances of them on video, but the ones that do exist are all excellent. They’re often compared to The Mamas and Papas, and I think they more than hold their own musically.
And after Cass Elliott died, Spanky would join the Mamas and the Papas on tour.
Absolutely Great! Soul funk as it should be played! Just love it. :-)
RIP Dino :(
what happy stuff....sounds like live vocals sung to a recorded track of the hit record's intrumental
This is beautiful. Elaine (Spanky) McFarlane, Nigel Pickering, Oz Bach, Malcolm Hale, and John Seiter. Spanky's voice is awesome even with a cold!!! The harmonies between these people is pure sugar. John Seiter (who later joined the Turtles at the end of their run) is hilarious with the non-emotional tambourine. It is a shame Malcolm Hale died so young. Elaine & Nigel reformed the group in 1975 with an album called "Change". There is a video of them appearing on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert with that material ...and Elaine is singing Country "With a Rock Edge" (Ann Wilson of Heart meets the Allman Brothers). It's worth a look. RIP Malcolm, Oz, and Nigel.
Priceless.
This is severely underrated. Vee's voice and Wilson's composition work great together.
Spanky was SO adorable.
I saw her, first.🥃 🥃😑🥃🥃
The all American girl with a sense of humor and a great voice
And thick ❤
I want to go back but can't. Only death awaits.
Rick,I am 70+ and I just play it loud ,,Spanky rules in Alberta Canada..
@@calvinsmart3471: I’m 70 and Spanky rules In Rancho Cucamonga, California. 😊
Lets see these punks of today do this or even give a heck. Just hate, violence, crime now. Creeps.
Everyone was more natural than they ever could be today. I read that people are more natural now. Ha ha ha ha. In actuality they are all egotistical FAKE.
I dedicate this song to my first love christine o.
skips?
From Regular Show?
My favourite ever Beach Boys cover!
The Robb storme group did an excellent version also !
@@lenb7275 They did indeed!
Ha ha
Great piece of tape. I'm glad they saved this especially a rehearsal. So much footage in America from the 60s is gone for good or just poor quality Kinescope stuff.
I love the Rascals but I don't think this version comes anywhere close to the Royal Guardsman's version.
Eddie sounds great!
Spanky sure had an amazing voice. She would have been a winner of American Idol had it existed in the 60's.
This is on Wall Street in NYC in front of Federal Hall Memorial building.
My wife and I thought it was Washington DC, at the Lincoln memorial.
