Weber 42 DCNF Rebuild tutorial Citroën SM / Maserati Merak
Просмотров 339Год назад
In this video I will show you how to rebuild the Citroën SM carbs (WEBER DCNF 42). Also used on many other Maserati's (Merak, Bora, Quattroporte iii, indy, ghibli, kyalami etc) and Aston Martin's from the 70/80's.

Maserati Quattroporte iii manual 1985 4.9 V8 Idle and walk around

Carbs have been restored and adjusted. The Weber 42 DCNF carbs are very hard to tune and many Maserati's (even models like the bora and khamsin) that share this engine vibrate heavily at idle and have pops and bangs. Correctly tuning the carbs is important to keep your engine in good health and to get your 280hp under your right foot ofcourse. These carbs maybe hard to tune but they sound amazi...

Driving my rare (262 built) Maserati Quattroporte 3 Manual from 1985. Driving it in the sunny summerweather in the Netherlands. The annoying rattle is from my gearknob, it has a hard time dealing with the 280 horses.
How much did you buy yours for I saw one for 10k but it’s long gone and I can’t find another
Bella Macchina ❤
How would you describe the reliability of this engine? Or the car in general
Thank yolu so much for sharing your knowledge with us!!
Thank you for taking the time to detail all these operations. This will be very useful to me !
Hi, nice sound!! Does this engin have a single plane cumshaft?
It has a double overhead cam
Have you ultrasonic cleaned them? Idk if the corrosion will go off. What kind of aston is it? The spring clip jets can be a bit tricky and they can fly anywhere and you will never find them again
Sorry, missed your reply. Yes, ultrasonic throughout, now looking nice and ready to go. 3D printed the carb level gauges, much easier than using calipers. Corosion seems to have been stopped - cleaned outside with Acetone then applied WD40 as an initial barrier layer. I have a AM-V8 from the early 1970s, just after they switched away from mechanical fuel injection
Thanks, very helpful. I have an Aston Martin with 4 of these beasts and although I have stripped them before, I never found out how to remove the 2 spring clip jets. Very timely because I am starting to strip them after a 4 year non-running period, and clean out the varnish-lacquer inside. Any suggestions on the white corosion on the outside of a body? Looking for a method to gently stop it. Looking forward to your next one on setup.
Great engine sound! Is it stock?
Yes it is completely original except for the muflers wich have been replaced by a former owner. In the future i want to make 4 pipes instead of 2 just like the ferrari 400i. The correct tuning tuning of the carbs make the difference. Also the manual gearbox instead of the crysler automatic helps with bringing the 280hp to the wheels.

I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC . I WISH MIND WAS LIKE YOURS
Thank you! If i sell a few cars i might be tempted to buy an Automatic one also. I've never driven one and i'm curious what the best transmission for the quattroporte is. What colour is yours?
I have an automatic, and it desperately needs at least a 4th gear. At 70mph it's around 4,000 rpm and much higher for 80mph. The redline is at around 6400 I think and it's yellow at 6,000, so the revs are quite high to just do freeway speeds. My brakes have always felt weak though they don't have any problems. I wonder if that's common or I need to start replacing stuff.
@@noserly The manual suits it better on the highway then. Cruising at 120-130 km/h at around 3000 rpm in 5th gear is way more quiet than the automatic i recon. for short distance the manual is not ideal as you can't drive really slow in 2nd gear. If you want to drive around a turnaround (rotonde) wich we have alot here in Europe it goes under 2000 rpm and the engine doesn't enjoy that. If you want to shift to first gear then you have to stand still or almost stand still because the old synchro rings in the gearbox. So the options are standing still and shifting to 1st gear or drive really slow in 2nd. The brakes are not the best on these cars and they are really heavy. I had to make an emergency braking one time and it did not stop in a few meters... 80's safety. This was described in cartests from when it was new. The brakes are really odd as not much happens the first part you press it but then it compensates it. It needs some getting used to as there is a small difference between an emergency stop and barely braking.
The brakes are not heavy but the car is*
Hi, does the sound change a lot between your automatic and this manual shown in the video?
NICE.
