The journey itself cleansed Frodo and Sam of any evil (the effects of the One Ring and the Morgul blade on Frodo specifically) and trauma from their fated journey to Mt. Doom. The only sad part is that Gimli and Legolas never reunited with the Hobbits and Legolas had to watch for Gimli in his final years.
