    So, Dahlia is concerned that: California isn’t exerting enough influence on national politics and federal elections; the U.S. court system is singularly focused on protecting the rights of (wait for it) “privileged white men”; the Supreme court is conspiring “to take away the right to vote for everyone else” (citation needed); and that not enough people (gasp) are on board with the idea of “adding four seats, or what we call ‘court packing’” the U.S. Supreme Court. I’d say she covered just about all of the morally confused, latently authoritarian talking points you’d expect from a campus interview. Way to go Dahlia! 🥳 And kudos for insidiously trying to contextualize and downplay the seismic ramifications of attempting to “pack” the U.S. Supreme Court. Hearing you explain it as just one option of many in a “pulldown menu” of political ploys helps to clarify the source of distorted logic demonstrated by so many young activists naive enough to fall for your justifications. Keep fighting the good fight, you’re really doing the Lord’s work. 👍

    25:56 another fallacy is that India is a democracy only because the initial Indian leaders were democratic. I think this is false. …because they’ve never been taught to think or been exposed to non democratic regimes. The average income in dictatorships is less than $15,000/ year. Americans who are pro Russian today are also pro gun and unrestricted free speech. These are two rights that are not allowed in any dictatorships. Just to show the stupid people are not all on the right wing. Idiot liberals support Palestinian people and some support Hamas a terrorist organization that is a religious fundamentalist group that is completely intolerant of liberalism and all liberal values. So there’s a a lot of idiots. I think the more intelligent among us who have abandoned democracy, they seem to be cynical to the core and look at authoritarians as able to clear away restrictions on their own freedom. This is also laughable because when has an authoritarian regime ever created more freedom for people. No they derive power by taking it for themselves.

  • @sieteocho

    Some people may think about the end of democracy and point to a guy like Trump. But there is a problem with democracy on all sides. First is the "woke" movement. I don't like to call it "wokeism" because the original meaning of the word is a positive one, it alludes to a form of social awareness. Woke people are not aware. The proper term for these people is that they are Bolsheviks. Like the Bolsheviks, they are ostensibly concerned about social justice, but they do not care about other peoples' point of view, and they don't care about democracy. People no longer talk about "I don't agree with you but I defend your right to say it." This died, and that is why democracy died. Then there is Trump, who is a bit of a fascist, and whose behaviour is not constrained by respect for the law and for facts. And the big player in this is the rise of social media: because people interact through social media this favours political extremism and radicalisation. They are responsible for the rise of Trumpism, woke-ism and ISIS. You could blame Facebook, but are you really going to regulate every single social media platform in existence? We might have to face a future in which we can no longer rely on democracy to function effectively.

    I'm Puerto Rican, you guys all need to stop conflating DC statehood with Puerto Rico Statehood, both are not the same. With DC its clearly obvious that the overwhelming majority want statehood but still I don't see it happening. With Puerto Rico there are multiple options are all option are evenly divided in support. But the party that has held the Resident Commissioner seat since like the early 2000s has been the Pro-Statehood party PNP, so their narrative has dominated the news for what they want continental US Americans to think, that's why Democrats ignorantly think that Puerto Ricans want statehood which isn't true. Also, the referendums are total BS, many Pro-Statehood politicians are even open about how they are just political ploys by the PNP just to get their more ignorant and gullible supporters out to vote for them in the gubernatorial elections. They are non-binding, so congress really doesn't have to do anything whichever the outcome and they always get low turnout if you do the math with all the referendum results and turnout, really it's like around 30% of Puerto Ricans that want statehood. Don't believe a word from anyone from Puerto Rico that is Pro-Statehood, that movement is extremely corrupt they have politicians within their own party arrested like every other month for things like bribery, hiring hitmen, making illegal building permits, stealing emergency service funds, etc. Also, if you ask the average statehooder off the street, they'll tell you the only reasons they want statehood is because they want more money to live off welfare or because they have the third world mentality that the US is a paradise and that making Puerto Rico a state will automatically fix all the islands problems. And the leadership of the statehood movement, they'll lie and say it's all about "Civil Rights", "Equality", and "Representation" but really all they want is more federal funds to steal. But all in all, statehood is never going to happen even if Democrats win a trifecta again, it's never going to happen, and it never should. Democrats need to do their own research and stop with this whole "Oh they voted statehood, so I want statehood too", that's like someone from Europe saying, "Oh Trump won, so that means all Americans love Trump, so I love Trump too", such and idiotic mentality.

    The only reform needed is to read the constitution, and vote accordingly. The Supreme Court has one main duty. To vote in favor for citizens rights if the constitution can be found to support it. If there is any question. Lean towards more rights, less power to the government. Not take them and give more power to the government.

    The way you go Roe V Wade was an activist court that shouldn't have made a law in the first place. This is why it was overturned. That court usurped the power of congress and the people. When the court begins to act in unconstitutional ways, how do you stop it? So our republic allows people who have different opinions from ours to gain power...we must destroy the republic and turn it into a dictatorship run by OUR side. Yeah. preserve democracy by setting up a one sided dictatorship to tell us it's a democracy...just like any other littl banana republic.

    Democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep voting on dinner. There is a reason we have an electoral college. We are not 1 nation. We are a union of 50 individual states. That’s why each state has a popular vote that determines who their electoral votes goes to.

    • @mmd77777
      @mmd77777 2 месяца назад

      But it is not an election on 50 respresentative federal governors for each state, it's the federal presidential election and it relates to the federal government. As such each citizen of the federal state shall cast their vote for president and their vote shall be represented and shall count in the end before a president is called. The vote being tied to state is a logistic necessity and the electoral college is a quite useless system that has overdated its lifetime as it doesn't even fullfill its original purpose anymore as it does not function how it was originally intended to. Sometime in history that changed, democracy hadn't died, and it can change again just as well, the electoral college and democracy are completely disjunct in their ideas and functions.
