TMX Description: Yo, I have been up all night finishing this map, a 3 section mini trial (cp 0, 1, & 2) for EVO's 2024 Pride Campaign! This is my first even semi-serious attempt at trial so idk how good the route will be but I think it should have some unique tricks that will make it worth the try! I wanted to make a map for all of the transgender people in the TM community especially in a tough time for trans people across the world as countries try to strip our rights and dehumanize us. I find joy in being a part of a fun and welcoming community and want to celebrate that! by making a hard trial map lol... As I was making this, it seems to naturally glide into a story arc of gender transition within the route of the map, which I based the scenery around (again, all made in the past 24 hours so uhh i hope it's okay, i'm sleep deprived now). I'll give a quick explanation of what the vibe is for each: Part One: Dysphoria you start to notice in yourself, something is wrong. You don't feel like you. Whether it's a small buzz, or blindingly obvious disconnect, you start to question yourself ... Dysphoria is not required to be valid as a trans person, though it is quite a common experience for trans people. It's basically feeling a discongruity between 'biological sex' and 'gender identity' (though a more thorough explanation would challenge the sociological factors behind classifying humans off of simplified notions of biology). The difference between how you want to be and how you're currently perceived in society can cause this stress and anxiety towards the body and outward presentation. It's important to note that cisgender people (same gender as assigned at birth) can also experience gender dysphoria, as evidenced by men gaining testoterone prescriptions in order to feel more masculine and to change their bodies with androgenic hormones. Trans people should be allowed the same gender affirminc healthcare in the same way that cis people receive it as there's not a fundamental difference other than our social categories. As for the map, the first checkpoint is a bit of smooth transitional pieces at first, followed by a massively daunting backflip. This is almost akin to cracking your egg AKA realizing you're trans, as you're constantly faced with a looming challenge. To aid this, the first checkpoint's scenery feels off. Pipes are implying structure, but some pieces are broken, there's no order to be found, and pipes lay claustrophobically close to you. Part Two: Euphoria learning yourself, you try new things you'd held yourself back from before. Growing your hair out, new clothes, painting nails, etc. When you see yourself, you feel the spark, like everything about you is starting to click into place ... As mentioned above, transition is not solely for 'curing' or otherwise handling dysphoric feelings, but trans people will most likely also feel moments of euphoria as they accept their newly understood gender identity. Starting to see yourself the way you want to be seen, in a way that makes you feel happy, is an amazing feeling that trans and cis people can feel with their gender presentation. If there's a reason why trans people more often experience a conscious euphoria over gender, it's that having any kind of transgender identity or gender non-conformity forces you to actively consider assumptions made about your gender, whereas cis people won't generally need to as their identity is supported from day one. This is what we'd call 'cisnormativity' AKA the assumption that everyone is the gender identity they were assigned at birth. The freedom found within challenging your assumptions about gender and expressing yourself can be amazing! The counter to part one's wild presentation, part two is all about structure and order. Sure, it's not perfect, there's still some chaos, but it's getting easier to understand how your life is going to come together. The tricks are more frequent than before and a bit slower paced, satisfaction and euphoria coming as you get closer to the checkpoint. The scenery has lots of moving block formations that aesthetically give the vibe of harmony, pieces moving together as they should be. Part Three: Transition You understand there's work to be done, transition isn't going to happen by itself... or is it? Seeing other people, you start to learn the important truth that there's more than one way to navigate these uncharted waters ... Transition is a lot of things, and there's no one specific guide to transitioning that one must follow. Firstly, you don't even have to transition from woman to man or vice versa, there are a whole host of non-binary identities that fall under the transgender umbrella as generally you won't ever be assigned as non-binary at birth. You can choose how you want to transition socially, whether it's changing appearance, name, mannerisms, or even not that much at all. Medically, you can go on HRT which replaces the sex hormones your body makes with that of the desired body chemistry (since gender and sex aren't the same ofc). You can also get surgeries that can add/remove/change body parts to a more desireable configuration let's say. With so many options, transitions can be quite unique from person to person so if you're considering it, it's time to do some research! Funny enough, even though I associated the trial style of maps to be the best way to showcase trans pride and resiliancy, I could have easily gone with transitional instead... so why not mix them instead?! The last checkpoint is a bit of a meld, having elements of the first two parts and the addition of trans flag scenery :d There are two sections within this CP: a high speed set of transitions into a massive jump, and a few slow speed transitions leading to a tight angle for the finish jump. Importantly, the final section has multiple ways to complete it, you can criss cross towards the finishes or drive straight as an arrow. Since gender transition has so much flexibility, I figured the finish of this map should do the same while still providing a nice challenge! All the world's a stage and we are merely players. I have performed this role for long enough, it's time for me to take on a new character and begin the show ... uhh ty if you read this for some reason, i'm delirious since i've been 24+ hours without sleep now so I just wanted to write a lot since it means a lot to me and I hope you enjoy the track and have a happy pride month!
