The Green Telescope - Live at De Stip (Amsterdam) - 30 August 1986
Просмотров 278Месяц назад
The Green Telescope were an amazing garage/psych mid-eighties band from Edinburgh, Scotland. They released two 45s, The “Two by Two” EP and “Face in a Crowd” single and participated to the “The Waking Dream” and “Beyond The Wildwood - A Tribute To Syd Barrett” compilations. Lenny Helsing was on guitar and vocals, Alan McLeanon on bass, Bruce Lyall on organ and Gavin Henderson on drums which was...
Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes - Live at Rumours (Edinburgh) - 5 February 1987
Просмотров 900Месяц назад
If Rote Kapelle was on the Fall / Cravats side of the scene, Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes were Edinburgh somewhat darker answer to Blondie. Andrew Tully, Angus McPake (bass guitar) and Margarita Vasquez-Ponte (drums) were in both bands. Kevin McMahon (guitars), Stuart Clarke (guitar) & Fran Schoppler (vocals) completed the line-up. They may have been the proper happy sad pop band Edinburgh w...
Baby’s Got a Gun - Live in 1987 at the Cavern (Edinburgh)
Просмотров 530Месяц назад
“Baby’s Got a Gun” was the third album by the Only Ones, released in 1980. It was also a Scottish band, active from 1985 until 1995 who, by their own admission, “punk’d up the eighties rock scene”. Here they are, live in Edinburgh at the Cavern in 1987. The peculiar concert was filmed in 1987 during a series of Thursday nights organized by Avalanche Records in the Cavern and Rumours, Edinburgh....
Sonic Youth - Live at Splash One (Glasgow) - 18 May 1986
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Месяц назад
On May 1986 our American cousins, Sonic Youth, came to visit Scotland. On the 5th, they gave a feverish concert in Glasgow. They were at the peak of their Bad Moon Rising / Evol area. I still remember being in the front rows during the whole set and taking photographs (but more of that in a forthcoming post). A few days later, in Edinburgh, I met someone who filmed that gig and who accepted to ...

The Television Personalities live at The Forum Enger Club (Germany) - 7 January 1984
Просмотров 706Месяц назад
On the 7th of January 1984, The Television Personalities were on stage at the famous Forum Enger Club, Germany. The support band was Die Sauberen Drei. This gig was booked by Macs Beckmann, who got Thomas Zimmermann into booking TVPs by posting him a hand written letter in January 1983. The sound engineer was Wigbert Pieper. The band: Dan Treacy - Vox, Guitar, Joe Foster - Vox, Guitar, Dave Mus...
Rote Kapelle - Live at the Cavern (Edinburgh) - 12 January 1987 - Correct Sound
Просмотров 433Месяц назад
Rote Kapelle were a great post/punk band from Edinburgh. The were noisier and weirder sounding than most of the anorak pop bands while retaining a pop sensibility. It may be high time to reassess Marguerite Vasquez-Ponte importance in the Edinburgh scene. She formed Rote Kapelle in the early 1980s with Andrew Tully (vocals), both of whom would also form Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes. She was ...
Getting Close to Nothing: An Indiepop / Riot Grrrl video fanzine from 1994
Просмотров 221Месяц назад
As the nineties arrived, the C86 sound began to evolve. The younger bands tended to get tougher and more radical in their political and sexual issues. In 1994, I bought a video fanzine (limited edition of 300), I think I should share with you. It is a fair picture of the Riot Grrrl first years. The tracks: • Blood Sausage: F You and Your Underground • Huggy Bear: No Sleep Till • Mambo Taxi: Bel...
Brompton Cocktail live at the Onion Cellar (Edinburgh) - 3 November 1986
Просмотров 239Месяц назад
I had the privilege to play at the Onion Cellar with Brompton Cocktail, opening for the Close Lobsters. In all fairness, I must admit that the reception was rather cold…. Almost everybody hated us. You may judge by yourself by the lack of applauses 😉 At the time, we were heavily influenced by The Cramps, The Rezillos, B movies and Hammer films. I gess this trad rock universe didn’t mix happily ...

The Hook ’n’ Pull Gang - Studio & Janice Long Session
Просмотров 5992 месяца назад
The Hook ‘n’ Pull Gang were described as “a cross between the Sex Pistols and the Ronettes.” They were always a joy to see live. They only released one 7 inch (“Gasoline” / “Pour it Down Yer Throat”) and unfortunately saved some of their strongest songs for later releases that never materialized. Here are a few demos and tracks recorded for a Janice Long session. The line up at this time was Ei...

Never expected to hear them play live regardless of quality
Hello, did my previous message get removed? Any chance you can get in touch? Would love to get hold of some of the recordings, I am in contact with Rita. she played at my 60th just last week. ruclips.net/video/xL1jn8XD6yg/видео.html (You don't have any VSS recordings do you?)
I guess you had to be there? Tinnitus.
Of course 😉 You may see me at the end of the gig, taking a few photographs !
Lenny
This may be the 1st time I've seen Blondie misspelled. Someone please insert an "l".
Done!
incredible footage to pop up now. they were absolutely vicious in this era, so fucking great.
where on earth was the Onion Cellar??? didn't hear about that place then???
I was in Edinburgh
That drummer is in the wrong band.
Jetzt weiß ich warum Blixa Bargeld die Band gut findet.
My god they were incredible then. That version of Tom Violence makes me shiver.
the best
As good as it gets. Wonderful music and a historical document at that. Great to see the audience and the band. This is really a "live experience" in the best sense. Sweet and touching to see their camera-shyness in the beginning. Absolutely lovely gig and great video.
Cryin shame this wasn't recorded on better than a potato. Loved their Scream Thy Last Scream Old Woman With a Gasket.
On my top three 80s indie pop bands 😍!
Fantastic! Do you happen to have their cassette on hand as I’d love to hear it?
You guys definitely knew what you were doing! It’s a shame the audience didn’t gel with y’all as it sounds like you guys were lighting that stage on fire
totally ON.
Sweetness and animal biscuits
OK, this one seems to pierce the haze a bit more and sounds passable..
It's like the Urinals ~but with no tether to pop whatsoever. . . which is both very good and very bad lol lovin it.
What a tuneless racket. Oh, wait! That's the point.
imagine actually remembering every note of these compositions. lol . . . pretty mind-knotting.
What a goof. lol
Beautiful, Jeff. It's like I was there in 1987! Thank you!❤
Great sound, especially on Fran’s wonderful vocals. Very evocative! Thank you.
wowwwwww! my favourite band all of time. thank you very much, Jeff. for this brilliant find. what a band ❤❤❤
My love of Jesse Garon is beyond compare.
This is UNBELIEVABLE!! What a find!!
We‘d like to finish now with a medley of James Last numbers 😂😂😂🥳
Jim Lambie certainly filmed some of the Splash One stuff, not sure about this one but possibly.
Many thanks Duglas. Are you in contact with him and do you think he would accept to share his archives?
Incredible!! Never seen this before
your channel rules!
@@startervisionsCheers man!
it's amazing.
Amazing!
Oh thanks for this upload..sounded really great
You're totally welcome ;-)
Thaks for this. I have a sn ep from them that I adore. This concert is like a message in a bottle.
Superb
In the days before tuning pedals? Then again, the vintage keyboard could be slightly out so the band would still have to tune to him.
The tvps were just a poor band with minimal equipment. I think later Dan had a phaser but beyond that effects pedals were minimal. Dan's trem sound is coming from his amp. Also mid set joe takes the piss out of Jeff's poorly drum set.
@@optimisticmike1041 I actually love the drum sound here! Probably the effect of recording to VHS too, but the hi-hats sounds class
@rbrtdff there's some pictures from this tour on the web. I was mostly talking about his Tom's and kick which seem to all be in various states of disrepair. The cymbals seem fine though! Jeff's a great drummer regardless.

superb
Can't believe this doesn't have more views. Thanks for sharing this gem. I'm not Gen X but I remember discovering Riot Grrrl when I was a teen and it spoke to me pretty deeply. Huggy Bear are quite underrated in my opinion.
Love me some Vaselines!
this is much greater
Such a great band. Thanks. Sometimes the old ways are the best!
I preferred their earlier stuff.
I'm afraid there is no earlier stuff, unless you think of the Feral Children, Fritz and Michael previous band ;-)
Good grief....you've done it again! I have never heard some of this studio stuff. Staggering. Thank you so much
I may still have another gig recorded at Clowns. I will digitize it one of these days 😉
Would you have any information about the Vodka Babies? I took a few photographs during one of their gigs.
@@popcardsfr I am sorry. I don't. I am not an Edinburgher. I accidentally 'bumped' into this band when they supported The Gun Club in Ldn in early 1988. I fell in love then. Been to all 4 of their gigs (all in Eburgh) since they reunited in 2014. Since then, I have made friends with a few (old timer) Edinburghers (including the the band) on the back of that, I can ask around if you like? PS THANK YOU so much for uploading this.
@@popcardsfr PLEASE DO, if you have time. I have a CD a mate did from back then (in Edinburgh) and it may be the same gig but it would be great to have it on here. Thank you again, so much.
Sick bruv
Nice. Pls post more c86 demos
Brilliant, i dont think people realise just how many iconic bands came out of Scotland.
