Weekend Scampers
США
Добавлен 7 авг 2021
We are a family of 4 that enjoys traveling and camping. Our videos are a peek into the places we explore, and people we meet along the way. We embrace the season of life where being "full time travel" isn't an option, so we're doing what we can now, to make the most of our weekends with our friends and family.
Mini Bike Madness at Silver Lake Sand Dunes, Michigan.
We're back at Silver Lake Sand Dunes for our 41st annual family summer vacation. If you've followed the channel a while, you've seen some of what goes on here, but this year I wanted to try something new and brought my Coleman Mini Bike. It's no banshee, but is it's own league of fun on the sand.

Grand Haven Getaway - Eastpointe RV Resort

We didn't have time to do anything extravagant for our 20th anniversary, but we thought we needed to do SOMETHING, so we slipped away (without the kids) a few hours north to Grand Haven, Michigan. We are never disappointed when visiting any of the small towns in West Michigan. There's always so much to see and do when you're right on Lake Michigan. We didn't get to do a lot, but wanted to show ...
Summit Lake State Park Campground, New Castle, IN

We never know what to expect when we go to a new state park, but between the great weather, and a site near the lake, we had a great place to add to our list of favorite campgrounds. Come with us as we spend a weekend at Summit Lake State Park.
Diverse ATV and SXS experience in Pioneer Tennessee.

I always try to get an ATV trip in a couple times a year. Once in the spring, and once in the fall. Normally it's still too cold in the north to not have to pack layers of warm clothes, so we decided to head south, and visit Pioneer, TN. We couldn't have had any better weather on this trip. It was 50's in the morning, and about 70 each afternoon, which made for great riding when you're in the m...

We're kicking off our 2024 travel season with our usual Spring Break/Florida Shenanigans. We started off with a few days in the Tampa Bay Area, then headed for our usual Disney Vacation Club week at another Disney Resort, just to do a pool trip, and hang out at the resort. The twist on this one was, we brought the dog. She did great, but it for sure added a different dynamic to the week, but it...

We generally don't have a ton of time to get more than a couple hours away from home, but the kids were on fall break, so we ventured about 4 hours away and visited Hocking Hills state park. If you like to hike...this is the place for you. The campground has full hookup as well as electric only sites, a pool, a lake, and all the hiking trails you can handle. Its beauty is unmatched (at least in...

If you follow the channel at all, we were here at Raccoon Lake last fall, but we enjoyed it so much, we decided we needed to go back in the summer, and bring the whole family. Lucky for us, it was the hottest few days of summer that we had all year, and the most rain we encountered for most of the year too. I wasn't sure if I was going to make an edit on this one, because we needed to spend tim...

We didn't really bring it up in this video, but if you follow the channel at all, you know that we generally end up on Lake Michigan at Silver Lake Sand Dunes for at least a few days out of the year. Generally that's a week long trip, where we take our summer trip, and it normally ends up with more family, and more friends coming along for the excitement. This year was my (Kraig's) 40th year co...

At the end of the day, family is all you've got. We've been wanting to get together with all the cousins for quite some time, and just couldn't ever make it happen, so on this camping weekend, we had the unique opportunity to have nearly everyone and their families back together. We didn't record as much as usual, because we wanted to make sure and spend time with the family, but as usual, it t...

Life and work (and a new puppy) have gotten in the way of maximum fun this summer, but we finally got to get out and visit Prophetstown State Park. This is our favorite Indiana State Park (so far) and also the newest campground at a state park to our knowledge. The water park was a great getaway from the heat, and it was only $5! You can't hardly get a coffee these days for $5, so we for sure f...
Staying at Devil's Backbone Adventure Resort & ATV's on Hatfield McCoy Trails
Просмотров 14 тыс.Год назад
If you've followed the channel for any length of time, you know we frequently do ATV travels in Michigan. For this trip, we decided since it was so cold still up north, we would head south and go visit West Virginia and the Hatfield McCoy trail system. I will say, compared to the sand trails of Michigan, these for sure beat my body more, but that could have a lot to do with the equipment I'm us...

If you've been following the channel since the beginning, you know that years and years ago we made the best irresponsible decision thus far in life by buying into Disney Vacation Club. What that has allowed us the last 18 years is to get away for a week at Spring Break time and go stay at different resorts around Disney property in Florida. This year we decided to check out Wilderness Lodge an...
Come visit Gatlinburg & Nashville with us!
Просмотров 671Год назад
We had some work conferences in Nashville for a few days one week, and we decided we should take a couple days to check out Gatlinburg while we were in Tennessee. Since it was January, Gatlinburg wasn't real active, which made for a more easy going time getting around town (other than the retailers out on the street trying to yank us into their stores), and Nashville did not disappoint as we go...

In this episode of Weekend Scampers, we go to a new park we've never been to before, that is probably in our top two favorite places we've been as far as Indiana State Parks go. We head to Raccoon Lake in Rockville, IN for an extended weekend, and check out a few local places along the way. Wasn't planning on going to @hobsonadventurefarm8194 but we happened across this place, and it was a grea...

My Tymate product includes 4 silicon seals/gaskets like thin rings. When are they used, and how ?
It is also interesting that only 4:14 into your video you went to the "west side of Grand Haven". What about the "east side of Grand Haven", and there is more then Fracono's Pizza and Norm's Ice Cream on the east side of Grand Haven.
@@ryankrygier3082 don’t know what to tell you, we didn’t have much time there because of work stuff going on, we just did what was nearby and we had no leads on where we needed to go, so I’m sure we missed a ton. I’m sure we’ll be back in the future, but this was just what happened while we were there for a couple days.
@@WeekendScampers I suggest that you take another trip there when you have the chance. Do more of the things that are right there, some not even a block away. I see in the video you posted that you have dog for example. There is a dog park right down the street south of EastPointe RV Resort. Lots of great places right on Beechtree Other than Norm's Ice Cream.
That is just "sad" if you like that terrible pizza! You really need to try Clover Bar Pizza. They also should put a ramp in!
The mini bike is great but I think I will stick with riding in the truck 😂
It’s way better for your back!
@@WeekendScampers Looks really great for 72!!!...I thought mid 50's....
@@Biokemist-o3k only almost 71, but yeah, still acts like a teenager.
@@WeekendScampers I hope I look that good when I am that age...I know I will act like a teenager...lol
@@Biokemist-o3k I think we all act like teenagers as long as we can, or at least till our backs won’t let us anymore.
I watched the video to the people who posted this video and stayed at EastPointe RV Resort. I have / am a summer seasonal at this resort the last 5 years. You only mentioned two places on the East side of Grand Haven, Norm's Ice Cream and Fracono's Pizza. You should have also mentioned that the pizza place does not have accessibility for a person using a wheelchair. This place does not have to be accessible as it is privatitly owned, but people should still be aware of this. Clover Bar Pizza is also on Beechtree a few blocks aware and much better pizza. There are also many other places that I hope people visit on the East of Grand Haven that I hope you visit on your next visit there.
about 9 years ago we left bull gap and rode west of luzerne . we rode close to 130 miles on mostly 50" trails. i was 68 years old riding a 400 ex. .probably the most wore out i have ever been. but what an awesome time. still riding at 77
That’s quite a haul at 68 on a 400EX. I hope I’ve still got motivation to do it when I’m older. I’d probably have to have something with a better suspension to want to do that! Keep riding!
Hocking Hills is great. Awesome hiking for sure. Way better than what is offered in Indiana. We have stayed at the State Park campground. Sites are defiantly small and close together. I suggest Campbell Cove Campground in Logan, OH. Great location right off US Route 33 and only 10-15 minutes from all the hiking. Yes it is more expensive but the sites are huge with nice amenities.
What is your dash cam you are using. Love the videos and always look for you guys while we are camping.
Thanks for the kind words. Make sure if you ever see us you stop by and say hi. We just use a GoPro for 95% of what we record, have tried other stuff but GoPro has just been easiest.
Happy belated Anniversary!
Thanks sir Charles.
If you go back make sure to try Fricano's Pizza Tavern, it's just down the street from the campground.
We love a good pizza joint! Will for sure keep that in mind. This was a weird trip, normally we can get at least a carry out pizza but for some reason we just couldn’t get in our normal groove on this short jaunt. Thanks for the tip!
Agree, Fricano’s & Scribs are a must.
Fricano's Pizza is full of Grease. Just a few blocks down Beechtree is Clover Bar and that it much better and is also accessible to person's who use a wheelchair.
@@ryankrygier3082Also good, certainly not better. Grease can be good 😂
@@ryankrygier3082 I don’t remember it being greasy, just a very good thin pizza. Maybe I’ll try the bar next time 👍🏻
Great video! Really cute little town!
All of Eastern Ohio looks like this, including Northeast Ohio (Cleveland/Akron area). People often forget that the Appalachian Mountains begin in eastern Ohio. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is amazing as well.
What map are you using? Can you send me a picture of the map title? Or post the details so i can find it online. Ive never been there and would like to know as much about the roads and trails before i go. Thanks
We normally stop at Peacock Limited (local ATV dealership near Baldwin) and pick up an updated map each year and get ORV stickers for whoever needs them. That’s where this map came from.
I have a cabin right off of H9 orv trail in Hale, Michigan. I love the riding up there.
My backyard!!! Born and raised in the Hocking Hills area...
When you say full hookup, what comes to mind is sewer, water and electric. Is this what you mean?
Yep, that's what I was referring to.
@WeekendScampers that's awesome. A group from my work go there in the spring to kayak but never mentioned the full hookup. I've been to Cicero and on Morse. I've passed by this campground many times. It's on a list of spots to camp. Appreciate the information.
@@transam790 It really is a great place, we've only been there a couple times, but for sure want to get back there. I think they had electric only sites, and primitive sites too if I remember right, but it's hard to beat a full hookup site right on the river. Flooding is the only thing that can be a bummer. I know sometimes they've had to close the campground when too much rain shows up at once, but I'd assume you get a refund in that situation.
Are full face helmets required or can I use my half motorcycle helmet. It's just too hot for full face imo. Great video BTW.
I really don’t think there’s any specific kind of helmet required, just a helmet. I just wear closed face when I’m on the trails cause if I’m with a group we’re normally kicking up a lot of dust and I don’t like to get dirt on my face cause when I sweat it becomes mud. It would for sure be nice having the ventilation of an open face though. There might be something on the website if you look there, but I don’t remember seeing anything.
@@WeekendScampers Awesome, I appreciate the reply. Thats a good note about dust turning to mud with sweet, I never thought of that.
You need to check out Versailles State park.
I don’t think I’ve even heard of that one. Is that in southern Indiana? Being on the north end of the state we don’t get far south as much as we’d like to.
@@WeekendScampers Yes its in Southeastern Indiana. Its in Ripley county about 25 miles from the Ohio boarder and just West of Lawrenceburg Indiana. You also have Clifty Falls State Park in Madison that has a lot of great hiking at both parks.
Summit is a very nice lake. It is an idle speed only lake. Great lake for crappie, perch & walleye, if you fish.
We were pleasantly surprised! We never know what to expect so we don’t get our hopes up but that was a great lake!
Does club 37 still have good food?
Boy I bet it’s been 8-10 years since I’ve been there but last time we were there we just did burgers and it was decent.
Great video. Can’t wait for the next ones!!!
Take gas tank with you
lol. We have had all these things happen when camping. But not in one trip. You have a great attitude
We camped there in April. Already have a reservation for September. Only camp Monday-Friday. Retired so we like it quiet. Lots of stuff to do in Rockville as well
Love the hybrid joke Kraig.
Great Videos.!. Just bought my first camper and heading to Mile High Campground in Cherokee NC. Great place. No hookups but they have a bathhouse. Great views!!!
Thanks for the kind words! Mile High sounds pretty awesome. We haven’t found any place “off grid” yet to try out our generator/solar options, but are for sure looking for one.
Which campsite did you guys go to. Looks fun
What is the range 20,30,40, feet? some need a booster to read correctly
I measured and my truck is 20ft and from the front of the tongue to the back of my rear tires it's 25ft, so in my particular case it's 45 feet from the receiver to the where the monitors are and it's never not connected.
Have you ever stayed at Sycamore Springs in Taswell Indiana? Highly recommend ❤
We have not. I’ll have to look that up!
Hahaha, Kraig standing out in the rain with the dog was great!
Not my happiest moment but it’s funny to look back on now that we’re not potty training a puppy anymore!
Thanks for the shout it. It was great meeting you guys. Hope you guys enjoyed Port Orleans as much as we do. Next time you go to Raccoon, give us a shout. There’s a pretty good chance we’ll be boating there.
It was a great place. We enjoy trying as many different ones as we can, so I’m sure it’ll be somewhere new next time. There’s no Racoon scheduled for this year, but we’ll see what next year holds. Thanks for coming up and introducing yourself!
Michigan roads suck...always been this way!
You should check out Hideaway campground!! It's amazing!!!
Have you guys been to Turkey Run?
We personally have not, but our last trip to Raccoon Lake we had family that went over there for the day. Sounds like it’s a great place to hike, but maybe best to still camp at Raccoon Lake and then go over to turkey run, because the campground over there is smaller?
We haven’t camped at either. We do a lot of boating at Raccoon, we live 20 minutes away, and the hiking at Turkey Run is probably the best in the state.
Yeah id rather be ripping a sxs on 32's with my cooler and stereo
What campground did you stay in?
That was Sun Outdoors Petoskey Bay Harbor. Pretty spendy to stay there, but possibly the cleanest RV Resort I've ever been to. Really nice place.
I’m fortunate to live in the area. Great place to hang out. If you are a Hamilton County resident you get a discount.
It’s a great river. Any time we’re camping anywhere that has access to it, we’ve never been disappointed in the floating opportunities.
It does drive me crazy that we have to leave the campground, and get 5-10 mins down the road, to find we have a low pressure issue. Finding somewhere to pullover with a 30' travel trailer can be challenging in New England. Or, as noted in the video, unscrew each sensor, with the unit turned on, before rolling out. Thanks for putting this together for us !
Has yours always been delayed? As long as I turn my display on before I hook on, mine 9 times out of 10 will show up as soon as I pull my trailer out of the shop.
Unfortunately, yeah. Mine’s solar and sitting on my dash so pretty much on all the time. The numbers are always there in the display but they don’t update until we get rolling. I purchased the repeater at the same time and am going to add it in to see if it makes any difference. Will let you guys know.
Its Ski pop (you just can't call it soda) - If you are so inclined it is currently only made in Chattanooga & you can order from them direct, but the shipping has made it quite $$$). You can sometimes find it in Cracker Barrels and Old timey general stores. Here is where its is distributed - Alabama, Alaska, California, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia. Ingles used to have it here in NC but TN, WV and Ohio are your best bets. I grew up w/it in SE Ohio and whenever we go back we bring back cases (Over Christmas my kids brought back 5 cases).
gotta love the guy trying not to be seen taking a piss at 9:48
That may or may not have been intentionally shot and edited into the video for a good laugh.
I hit the thumbs up as soon as I saw the Ski!! 😂❤
I blame you for that by the way. I didn’t even know what the stuff was before you were advertising for them.
I'm always trying to get people to join the Ski family. Haha.
Great video, gives me and my wife good ideas of where we can camp. We are Hoosiers. It’s nice to watch your videos during snow storms. In winter
Thanks for the kind words! We’ll do our best to find new places to share. Sometimes with schedules we can’t get to as many places as we’d like that are new, but we’re trying to explore Indiana and the surrounding states as often as we can.
Did I miss what days this trip was?
This was the second week of October. Great hiking weather but without having much rain near that timeline, we didn’t get to see hardly any of the water features. Still cool, but would like to see the waterfall stuff someday!
The top loop @ Conkles is pretty awesome in the Fall. Coming up (typically) MLK weekend is the Winter hike which starts @ Old Mans, goes thru Cedar Falls where they have free bean soup for lunch (which is worth the trip) & on to Ash Cave where they then bus you back to Old Mans. Easy 6 miles. & hopefully lots of ice and frozen features.
Sorry you missed all the waterfalls , it's better to see when water is flowing spring ,summer and winter , I've been there 5 times , never saw it that dry .
I’m guessing we’ll hit it again in the future, but with kids in school it seems to always lock us in to times that don’t line up with premium time to be there.
7:05 I love Texas Roadhouse yummy
5:52 good thing man and dad had a big truck to come help cheers to them
4:18 sounds like a rough day
4:54 try setting up tent in the rain ☔️ no fun at all than you have to get your gear in
