Did van gogh add calcium carbonate to his paints for impasto ?
@Harry, thank you for your question. The evidence isn't conclusive but it appears that way.
Van Gogh's artwork was amateurish and sloppy, hardly in the same class, brilliance and excellence as the Dutch masters of the same era. But I appreciate the appeal of a great story... urban myths about his life e.g. the loss of his ear, his early demise, his inability to sell his art and generate a regular income, his financial mismanagement and debt, constant leaching off his brother Theo for his keep, etc. Interesting stuff, how legends are created.
@BesterInvestor, yes, upon review of his works, it appears that Van Gogh's art was his therapy.
