Maiden of my E-Flite F-14 Tomcat. All 8 flights that day were hand launched into 5-10 mph winds. Great little jet, a ton of fun, and quicker than I expected. Apologies for the poor quality video, my phone camera was in the wrong mode when the video was shot. Battery: SMC 2600mah 4s

Freewing B-2 Spirit grass ops maiden with crash landing :-(
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.2 года назад
Maiden of my Freewing B-2 Spirit off of grass. Unfortunately I bounced and then cartwheeled partially due to a stuck spring which didn’t allow the gear to articulate properly on one side and a stiff 90 degree crosswind.

Congrats on your Maiden. It looks like you were lucky to get it airborne, maybe its a bit under powereed for the grass with those small wheels? On landing did you user reverse thrust or was it all down the small whees and the grass?
Explains why even the softest touch down, it bounces all over almost cart flipping. Very annoying and bothersome
Wow, huge runway. I was thinking why he didn't go farther back before take off, then when the camera panned right... oh.
God what a 700 dollars Dog. Lo bueno es que despego. Buen pilot o.
It's a bomber, not a fighter.
Nice job. I knew there was going to be a issue with this one like the B2 on grass.
Does ANYBODY know how to set up the reverse thrust !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yup, find the power lead off the ESC, 2:24 you have to separate the signal wire, insert that pin into your receiver and assign it to a switch. It’s short so it might be easier just to add a servo extension to the pin.
Sold that piece of junk after 3 flights. Flies like crap
@@drmrjon LOL thanks for the heads up, gonna maiden mine Saturday hopefully. Anything specific you didnt like? I bypass gyro, ballparking the set up. I know book CG was off from what people end up with. Thanks. Not even gonna try grass ops….
@@roymills415 Everything about this thing is garbage. I sold it after 3 flights. OH, hang on tight when you sweep the wings back!
Good flight, the bad bounce due to ground effect/bad spring in gear sucked, Glad you fixed it.
Very nice maiden, I was wondering how much power was left in your SMC 6200 pack? BTW I also subscribed and look forward to more B1-B videos.
I gave up on this jet. I havent seen anyone able to utilize the thrust vectoring on it properly or keep plane flat on spin. I decided to get rid of it and turned my f22 into a 10s power and installed thrust vectoring and it absolutley destroys the mig 29 in every wa. So much more fun to fly.
Did you made handlaunch in SAFE mode or ASX3 normal mode?
Seems faster than mine. What battery are you using?
Did you fix the issue yet?
Nice maiden! Sorry to see the damage, glad you had the $350,000,000 on hand to get her back in the air!! And the "stealth" landing feature you added was fantastic!
Nice flying! That might have just given me the final push I needed to order one myself! My wife will not be happy!! Do you fly yours with the stock set up? Was there any damage from the stealth landing? I am really appreciative for you spreading the word about my channel!

Excellent Flight! I especially liked the way it snuck into it's secret underground hangar at the end of the flight where the enemy couldn't detect it on the ground! 🤣 That's one sneaky devil. Also a great way to avoid a bouncing landing!
Don’t let go of the elevator when it’s almost on the ground. Use the elevator to maintain a slightly nose-up attitude and use the throttle to control the rate of descent. Keep flying until it’s parked. On maiden flights, I always shoot some approaches to get a feel for the landing speed and land before I don’t have enough battery for a go-around.
Good advice for sure. That’s typically how I land my jets. The wind had shifted 90 degrees to the runway which made it difficult to keep completely flat and to top it off I hadn’t noticed that the gear on the high side happened to be stuck in a position where it wouldn’t articulate at all. When that strut came down, instead of absorbing any of the shock, it made the nose slam down and then rebound into the air leading to that spectacular cartwheel. I’ve had a few more flights on it since then and the best landings have been the ones where I glide it into ground effect and keep a bit flatter vs nose up. I’ve found that holding the nose up usually leads to a bounce on this particular model.
Dang that was going soo smooth too 😔
I had the same thing happen! I got a little bouncy and overran the paved runway. Knocked gear doors off, damaged the jackscrew in the nosewheel main, it'll be flying soon. Gotta just avoid that porpoising during landing. When it is in ground effect it handles differently, very pitch sensitive.
Lol
Daaaang 😔 she was having such a nice flight ! You will get her back up in no time 👍🏻👍🏻
That is definitely not a good death bounce, I was about to say it was looking great till the end too. Hopefully it is fixable!
Luckily, the damage was all repairable and I found what caused that sudden bounce into the air. Going to take her back out for another flight on Wednesday.
you were really unlucky.....that looked a perfect landing...how do u get on with orientation it looks difficult to gauge when further away.....
Tell me about it lol. Surprisingly, it’s not all that difficult to tell the orientation while flying it as long as you keep your eyes on it.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Oof 😥
That was a great flight and some serious acrobatics, just found the video. I can't remember if I saw this in person, but that was an exceptional flight. We need to get a video with the upgraded fans!
Dang dude!
Just purchased one of these, thanks for posting
Awesome! I’m sure you’ll love her. She’s got a permanent spot in my hangar. Make sure you install some of the 3D printed nozzles, especially if you’re on grass. There’s a pretty noticeable difference in thrust with them. I personally use the inserts as they don’t require any cutting.
Greetings. Do you use any kind of mixing to perform those flat spins? I started using thrust vectoring on mine but cannot spin it. I guess is a tough maneuver.
Solid performance and beautiful landing. Can you please share your RX gain settings for the AR637? Both AS3X and Safe if you have it? Thanks!
Having trouble taking off from grass field, have u changed anything to improve the speed
In these flights I did not. Make sure your CG is towards the rear of the range in the manual. I recently added the 3D printed nozzles but I have not flown it with them yet. I’ll post a video once I do.
@@rudyd54 Great job. Do you have 100% FSA nozzles 3D printed?
@@Flight6677 I do, but I did not have them for this video. They are an absolute must in my opinion as they increase performance tremendously.
@@rudyd54 Can you please share your RX gain settings for the AR637? Both AS3X and Safe if you have it? Thanks!
Thinking about getting one. how are the landing characteristics with tv turned on? or do you turn it off before landing??
Ya gotta love it!! DRACO!! Great maiden. I subded!
Great flight Rudy, what a gorgeous bush plane. You've become the Master of Maidens! 🤣
That landing was the best I've seen from anyone with a Rafale yet! I have the Gripen, but will be adding this to my collection
Thanks! I’ve got a Gripen as well. Both are great planes.
hello Rudy, very nice flight and very nice high alpha 👍. what is your setup (batt Amh, CG ...) thank you.
Thanks! I’m using an SMC 6s 4500 40c which weighs about 588 grams and my CG is currently around 120 but I plan on pushing that back to 125 and testing further.
Beautiful flight, especially for a maiden! Well done.
I can't seam to get my CG right, still tail heavy 😫, will try again soon.
Beautiful plane and flight. The loop into a downward spiral is amazing. Never gets old!
Great flight bro, that was cool. It looks very nimble. ?? time.. What's the roll rate like with the vectoring?? Is yours setup for that?? How much throw do the nozzles have?? Fun to watch. It looks 4k. Thumbs up. AirHammer out!!
Thanks dude. It’s a blast to fly with the thrust vectoring and it definitely very nimble. It surprised me how well it flew. I am setup for roll, pitch, and yaw vectoring and the roll rate increased slightly over the stock roll rate, I feel like it’s perfect. I’ll get some video of it next time I’m out. I didn’t measure the throws on the nozzles, but it’s mixed to get 100% of the servo travel.
Very nice Rudi! I wish I could fly my Mig like you do! Buttersmooth landing also. Greetings from Belgium + 1 sub
Hey Rudy what camera are you guys using? I will be testing mine more on Saturday so be looking for my videos.
We’re using my iPhone 12 Pro Max for these videos. It’s surprisingly capable. Good luck! I’ll be on the lookout 👍
Love this Rudy! Thanks for sharing them. will call it out on tomorrows live show!
Nice flying!! Thanks for sharing
you did a great job, good recoveries coming out of them. my 1st flight was to tail heavy, i needed to re-do my CG. I will re-test mine this weekend.
Thanks! Cant wait to get some more flights on it. I’ve got mine roughly 10-15mm behind the marks on the wings. I had to rearrange and put one battery in the front tray instead of the hump but it worked out perfectly.
@@rudyd54 yes same here for the battery. I don't have it back that far yet but I did the CG with my heaviest battery to start with room to move it back after a few flights in.
Smooth landing in what looks and sounds like windy conditions. Well done to the camera crew for keeping up most of the time, its difficult to do if they dont know what the manoeuvres are or are not used to your flying style.
Nicely done ;)
The thrust vectoring makes the MIG fly lighter, I think anyone doing the conversion definitely wont be going back to the standard setup
Brilliant job!
Nicely done ... shame about the camera man 😘 😘 😘
