Hi Jughead. Thanks for the thoughtful comment! We used pigmented catalyzed lacquer. Keep in mind, sometimes spraying clear lacquer over white satin can create a yellow hue. There is a water white clear lacquer that’s non- yellowing. In regards to monetary value, this particular carver actually has public auction records up to a thousand dollars plus the auction commissions. I’ve never used catalyzed lacquer. I always use nitro. I’m not sure how to use cat lacquer. 😮I understand there are pre- and post-cat lacquers and different pot times. I don’t use much at a time so if I had to buy a gallon, I would probably waste most of it as on a guitar I use a little less than a quart. After the color coat(s) I’ll spray 10-12 coats of clear, let it cure for about a month, level sand and polish. I don’t know if you do that with cat. What I’ve seen with cat lacquer is on cabinets where it has a very light sheen and is perfectly smooth and beautiful. I might try some pre-cat in a rattle can where I don’t have to spend a fortune. But I have no idea how to polish it to a mirror finish like I like on my guitars. I tend to work slow and don’t know what the open time is on cat lacquer. I would have a lot of questions about how to use it. After you said you use cat, it makes sense why the finish in the goose or swan looks like it does, and I mean that in a good way. The bird looks great. Sorry to ramble but you triggered a lot of thoughts about lacquers. Thanks for your videos. I have subscribed.
