I was a YMCA staff for over 19 years before I resigned. I have been out now for 2 years (still a board member), I miss the YMCA, and hearing these interviews reminds me of the people we would connect with. Love this podcast! #YMCA

In professional circles, they are sounding boards, thought partnerships and accountability buddies. These ladies are an excellent example! Congrats and all the best, everyone.

Is the outdoor pool OPENED?

I do not understand this at all. And I certainly do not feel "welcomed back." What a lack of communication during the past three months and what poor communication at the last minute from the YMCA. I expected more and NOT what you delivered so late. We were asked by the YMCA leadership in March to keep paying our monthly dues during the COVID crisis since the YMCA is a non-profit. Three months later as most businesses are opened up fully, the YMCA announces "reopening" but decides to reduce the services being offered while keeping the same cost. I would much rather trade in the extra hand sanitizer for a towel and locker again. I am certainly not going to pay for this to just have the "hope" that there might be space for me when I get to the gym. It just comes across as a complete overreaction and that the corporate office using the COVID crisis as a way to cut costs while asking us to foot the bill. As an example, how can my senior citizen mother make any sort of exercise schedule if: a) the schedule is not online when you "re-open." b) After spending a lot of time combing through your clunky website that is corporation focused rather than locally focused, I am told I have to telephone my local branch anyway to get the information. c) I call them and they don't initially know the schedule. d) After speaking with someone else, the staff member informs me that the seniors will have two class options per week. And that each class can only have 13 people in it. AND that my senior citizen mother would have to go online 24 hours before each class to TRY to reserve a spot EACH TIME she would want to come to the class. That would make trying to develop an exercise routine virtually impossible. Add that to the absurdity of shutting down two thirds of the gym just so that people can social distance? Good God, it is a gym. If people don't want to get back into the normal routine they can stay at home as they have been doing for three months. (All the while PAYING the YMCA for services not rendered then or upon return.) Ughhhhhh! Who is the corporate genius who thought any of this would be a good idea. I am sure that there are plenty of panicked people who just love this. However, I am not one of them. I just wanted to get back to the gym and to a workable routine, as did my family. But your hyper-anxious reopening plan does not come across as very thoughtful to me as a paying client who kept paying during the pandemic. Therefore, we will cancel our membership and start over somewhere else. Maybe we will come back in a few months if all of this nonsense changes. What a shame! We truly like the Y and the fellowship that we had there. I guess we will try to find that somewhere else now too.
