Filmed on the 10th of September 2024. These are the returnables i collected from my new place of tuition over the course of 2 days. There’s a heap of cans and only a few bottles. No real bloopers other than some gravity moments So here you go, almost 7 minutes of reverse vending goodness!
Returning some ABANDONED returnables with the Tomra T-710’ at Meny! ($5 USD From Abandoned Bottles!)

Filmed on the 6th of September 2024. While going to this location to check the rejects and do some manual redemption, i saw this bag sitting on the floor clear full of bottles. This was a tad rushed as my phone’s battery was low, and i wanted to document this awesome find. I made 51kr (just over 5 USD) from these bottles. The thing i threw in the rejects bin was a steel corrugated food can, pos...

Link to Part 1: Filmed on the 6th of September 2024. I had this bag of returnables sitting around for a while, and wanted to get them redeemed. Die to how small the carts are at this location i vas really only get 1 bag st a time in them, hence why this is in 2 parts. There was some weirdness with the big 1.5L bottles getting compacted, i believe the compactor on this TriSort may be going out.

Filmed on the 5th of September 2024. Joker has disappointed and annoyed me as of late, due to staff lacking redemption knowledge and sometimes poor machine maintenance. The only good-ish location is the one with the T-63HCp TriSort, and even they have disappointed lately.

    Can you explain how it works with cans from different countries? Here in the netherlands you cannot return german cans

    • @TruckFan542
      @TruckFan542 2 дня назад

      Here, Swedish cans/bottles are sometimes accepted. Other countries’ returnables are rejected. (Danish, German, etc) Occasionally certain taxfree cans are accepted too. Stuff that is foreign but accepted does not give out a refund, since no deposit was paid on it here, however certain Swedish containers also have a Norwegian deposit and therefore do refund that deposit (which is double the Swedish deposit 😆)

  • @TheShellshock67

    Plastic bottle goes into the same chute as the cans.... Nice... At that point just stop the return schemes if you dont do anything with the recyclables.

    • @TruckFan542
      @TruckFan542 2 дня назад

      They are sorted after collection here. Trucks take the material to Infinitum’s plants, which sort and bale the material. Some machines like T-70’s and T-63H’s do sort the stuff though. (These T-9’s do not need to do that as they use mix crushers, unlike T-70’s and T-63HCp’s which have a dedicated compactor for each material.)

  • @chokey4754
    @chokey4754 4 дня назад

    In the US we only do things well if they make money. If they are things that are socially beneficial we either underfund it and forget about it or, in the case of recycling, provide no reason to do it. At least not on a small scale.

    • @TruckFan542
      @TruckFan542 4 дня назад

    You seriously do realize that the amount of energy you consumed to dispose of the can, the paper and the ink, far outweigh any environmental impact you might have had recycling the can😂😂😂 Having said that, if you did it for the money🫡🫡🫡

    • @TruckFan542
      @TruckFan542 6 дней назад

      Eh, it’s hard to explain how it all works, but I’ll give a few corrections: -No ink was used, the machine has a thermal printer. -While yes, the machine uses electrons, it’s still a lot less than even landfilling it. -Deposit return systems produce very clean material that can ACTUALLY be recycled effectively, unlike single stream recycling which is very impure. Fun fact: Trucks that drop off products to the store take the empties for processing instead of returning empty, thus saving fuel.

    After some recent feedback, i will be adding a pinned comment explaining what everything is! Q: What is this machine called and what does it do? A: A reverse vending machine (RVM). These machines take empty bottles and cans and allow you to redeem them for a receipt. This receipt can then be cashed out or used towards your purchase at the store. Q: Where can you find RVM’s? A: Most grocery stores have them. Supermarkets also usually have them. In some places like Australia and the US, they have redemption centers full of the things. Keep in mind not everywhere has a bottle bill / deposit return system. Q: Are these machines reliable? A: If cleaned regularly, serviced and maintained, RVM’s can last for decades. Some stores or machines have their quirks, likbe this one having bin status, which is rare for a Tomra T-9. Q: How does an RVM work? A: There are 3 main types: Spinners: These split the conveyor and spin the returnable round and round to zap it’s barcode before it gets sucked up and squashed. Hoovers: These use a 360-degree scanner, like Tomra’s OneRing to zap the barcodes. Then they suck the returnables up and squash them. Bucket Wheel Excavators: These use a singular wheel to scoop up returnables onto a conveyor, then the process is the same as the Hoovers.

      @@spray_cheese Sometimes you’ll get returnables hat are quite smashed up to go through. They usually only sneeze out the really flat stuff.

    This happens all the time since cans were also added to the deposite scheme in the netherlands. Anoying

      Cans go through fine here unless they’re really smashed up, even those sometimes go through. For some reason 7up doesn’t behave here.

      I find those machines have hard time to read the barcode for all kinds of reasons. Too glossy, too dirty, too wet, too small, not enough contrast, etc. Sometimes flipping the can or denting/flattening the barcode portion do help. And all the codes have to be registered in the machine to accept them.

      Yeah they have to be in the database. I’ll eventually try 7up at another Meny location and see what happens there

      Happens even when te can of beer is the supermarket's own brand. Just a bad system for collecting cans. Smelly, gross and doesn't work. Better to throw it in a recycling bin as we were used to do.

      @@TheShellshock67 Doesn’t happen here (Norway), i know the US has a lot of problems with crap like that occurring. Ireland has some similar problems, and i know there’s been messes in the Netherlands and Germany with deposits like this. We had them since the 1930’s (!!) so we know how to run it. Heck, Norwegian company Tomra made the first reverse vending machine, the Tomra 1A in 1972.
