not unlike the religious right who spew hatred toward the entire LGBTQ+ community and esp. Trans people, only to scream bloody blue murder if someone dares to restrict their hate speech....I think it's the point of Felix's story line at this point.

The interesting question is why is Felix homophobic. That anger could mean he is suppressing his own gay feelings, and find being homophobic both a great camouflage to prevent people finding out he himself is gay, and at the same time works a deterrent from accepting that truth about himself. If his religious parents and a fear of being disowned by them should they discover him to be gay is why it is so important t for him to suppress his true self. And this being a show, and because his parents were painted the way they were, that seemed the most likely explanation. Why else include them in the story. We haven`t seen Sara`s parents, or Erik`s father. Therefore the presence of Felix parents, and the fact they are strict and religious, must be key to the story. Same way Thea`s uncle is/was, Erik`s mother and Mathias` parents. But had Felix been a real person, not a fictional character - but wasn`t willing to talk about what was bothering him (why he bullies people and seek refuge from reality in drugs and alcohol) - the possibility his anger, and especially towards gays was not self-loathing, but because he himself had been, or was, being sexually abused by one or more males, also would have to be considered a possibility. Something is troubling Felix so severely he is both bullying people in general, and close to gay bashing his former best friend. So obviously something is seriously wrong. Had the coach not been a celeb cameo, I would have suspected Felix not being bothered being seen carrying 18 cans of beer in front of someone who knew he was underage, and therefore could expose him to the cashier, to be noteworthy. Indicating Felix either had something worse on coach, making coach reluctant to expose him, or because he knew coach wouldn`t expose him cause coach liked him too much. If coach was the one abusing Felix, or had abused him, that would explain why coach was so approving of Felix getting alcohol, that he even bought some for him.

The 'old Bergen guys' didn't beat him because they thought he was gay...they beat him because Felix was jealous of his friendship with Mathias and Felix used a made up charge that Erik hit Sara.....and as for Erik hiding in the closet....I think you'll find Erik's character is doing what most closeted gay guys do...hide because of the debilitating fear of being found out and ostracised for simply being themselves....The fear of having zero friends, being made fun of, being made to feel 'lesser'..... On another note....While so many are criticizing the story line for season 3.....I believe some very important story lines are emerging....

The reason Erik was beaten up was that Felix led the other guys, including Mathias, to believe Erik had hit Sara. Erik had, but it was as part of a little boxing training, and she asked him to hit her, just failed to duck or block. The brawl in Bergen, that was the reason Erik came to Vesterøy, had nothing to do with anything gay. Erik's team had a closed online forum where some had posted wardrobe footage of some girls - including one Erik liked - so he reported it, and some of his team mates got in legal trouble. That was the reason they all ganged up on Erik, and why he took the self-defence too far, sitting on one of the guys, hitting him repeatedly in the head. That is aggravated assault, not self-defence. Which is why Eric was arrested. But because of his low age at the time, he would not be tried and convicted for it.

ya but that is what happens when they try to extend a show way past when it should run. Like Skam the original had the perfect amount of seasons if they tried to push it further we would have remembered it being sooo good.

@@justin-mw3nk If Rykter had continued with the same set of main and supporting characters, and kept the storylines they had begun so excellent with the two first seasons. From the Erik and Mathias one, to Sara being split between her family`s wishes for her future, and her own fun of fighting and winning matches, Felix` dislike for Erik (not unlikely because he himself had the hots for Mathias, but because of his parents suppressed those feelings), Synnøve having to almost parent her mother and younger brother, while feeling sexually harassed at the job she and her family needed her to keep to stay afloat. And finally Thea coming back a reformed character. All those storylines could have been continued, and we could have followed those characters who all of them knew each other, and therefore would be easy to include in each others` storylines. Instead of introducing both new themes and storylines with new characters, which than had to be introduced to the former characters, which would steal airtime from other storylines and characters, and consequently resulting in the mess that is season 3. If I am honest neither the characters of Olivia, Øyvind or Christer have added something significant to the show - but they have stolen a lot of focus and airtime from the original characters. I am not saying they shouldn`t have been introduced, but that it should have been done differently, requiring less airtime. Say Christer was someone Sara had slept with in Bergen, but not to make things awkward for Mathias and his friends she kept her distance to Christer when he turned up at the party, and when he called her that degrading word Thea overheard and rushed to defend her old friend. Christer pushed her away so she fell, making Sara give him a taste of what facing a female boxer or mma athlete felt like. Or Olivia could have been the one to overhear and defend Sara - and that could have been her introduction scene to the series. It would have freed airtime for the original characters and ongoing storylines, and it would have incorporated the introduction of the new character of Olivia without shifting focus away from the main characters and their ongoing storylines.

forreal it's good that there are multiple storylines but we've now lost main characters because 10min isn't long enough for the multiple storylines

Ultra short episodes require ultra sharp focus. Stronger focus on a few characters and storylines, and very short and precise scenes and interactions to move the story forward. In this episode too many new characters were introduced, too many new directions or storylines, too much time to establish both, and worse of all, the cliffhanger ending from last episode - Erik and Mathias - was not continued at all. I agree that is not excellent writing.

What racism are you referring to? This show has both cast and characters representing a variety of ethnic backgrounds, but those are immaterial to the storyline. This isn`t about race or racism at all. Felix is being disliked because of what he does to people - not because he is of Asian ethnicity

I appreciated that he owned up to his behavior and apologized but also very much appreciated that Nick and Charlie accepted his apology BUT still didn’t want to associate with him. I think that’s a very realistic scenario of how someone would feel and act

I think it depends on why, how much for the better they have changed and sincere they are in their regret and eventual apology. I make it a point to judge people by their current acts and statements, and not to get caught up in the past. After all, everyone deserves a chance to show improvement, and the one behaving badly tomorrow might be someone completely different - maybe even yourself. Much smarter to try to understand people, and influence them for the better when necessary, not freeze someone out or alienate them. If you think about it, that is nothing more than petty revenge. All that does is create an enemy and division between people, and people that person get to know regard you to be the baddie, cause with them the other person has been great. Unless they are full blown psychopaths, people will change for the better if being in an environment they feel safe and can be themselves. Felix so obviously feels insecure, and therefore puts on a tough guy front when around other teens. But is submissive and obedient around his parents. I am not fooled by his homophobic outburst either. Felix clearly is as into Mathias as Mathias is into Erik. That was why he didn`t like Erik when Erik first came to Vesterøy, why he wanted to know what Erik had, that he himself hadn`t, at the boathouse party, and especially why he exploded when he overheard Mathias had kissed Erik, who after Felix parted ways with Mathias after the boathouse party not unlikely became Felix` new secret crush when they worked together over the summer. Overhearing both the guys he is weak for had kissed must have been a blow to the gutt for Felix. But because he is to insecure in himself to be honest of why he is angry, he wraps his anger in homophobic slurs, thinking then no one will believe he too to be gay. Felix need to take a good look in the mirror and take note of who he truly is. Then have a good think about who he wants to be, and do what is necessary to become that person. Or in other words he first has to accept himself, and then behave in a way that makes people like him, so they will accept and like him, despite his, for the time being, dark secret. If he doesn`t, he could start to copy Thea`s playbook of lies and fake selves to cover up his secret. That will not only ruin his life, but could make him a serious threat to anyone who discovered, or suspected, what his secret was.

Kind of unbelievable the writers opted to totally neglect anything that happened in the previous episode, taking into account the way Erik and Mathias parted. In favor of what? New characters or speaking extras? If the former the intro was both misplaced and tragically poor and boring. If the latter a total waste of screentime and redirection of focus, just to create an establishing scene for Thea and Felix` talk. The latter could easily be arranged with Thea confronting Felix, demanding an apology for what he said to her at school in a previous episode. Erik, Mathias and Sara should have been the main focus of this episode. I also fully agree with those claiming Erik being part of that loss of virginity thing to be totally out of character for him, compared to season 1 and 2 Erik. The writing better improve soon, or this will become absolute torture to watch.

@@ketilbrundtland3307 It is a show about a lot of characters though, with different povs from everyone. They did this in the first two seasons also. Not everything always gets fixed right away sometimes it can take months or years. And hey sometimes you just gotta have a slow burn. The fact that so many are still watching just means that it’s a good show!

@@Bluedhalias Having learned the craft from one of the best script doctors in Norway, Nils Nordberg, I politely disagree with your claim. It is possible to have more characters and storylines at the same time. But when the eps are as short as around 10 mins, you need to be extremely economical about what you include, and how you include it. And when you add a cliffhanger ending, as how Erik and Mathias parted in the previous episode, you always - ALWAYS - start with the continuance of that in the next episode. Cause that is what all the viewers want to see. Anything for how Erik or Mathis reacted after they had split would have done. But a cliffhanger of this kind always require being immediately continued. Another important thing is to not confuse the viewer about where the story is. And I am sorry, but both Thea`s sudden interest in Felix, after how he treated her first day she was back in school, and this weird loss-of-virginity thing seems out of touch with what has happened before. And when on top of that Øyvind is drawn into the center from hardly having been seen before, same with a new doorman and two extras illustrating visitors from Bergen, this episode neither have head, nor tail, but is a complete mess. Priority one should have been continuing the Erik and Mathias storyline, showing what Sara and Mathias talked about, Erik and Mathias` reactions to being at the same party, Sara being reunited with Thea, the Thea and Felix talk (which after the latest episode I frankly believe it would improve the quality of the show to have stricken completely, and instead focus on Felix and Mohammed, and Synnøve feeling bad over she and her gang did to Thea). Only if there had been time and space left the doorman, scene, the loss-of-virginity thing and the quarrel over an outdoor chair should have been included. All ranked by importance - and yes, I think the doorman scene to be more important than that stupid loss-of-virginity thing. The two first seasons of this show, and the first episode of series 3, were a not to out there drama about authentic youths in the time of social media. But now it turns more into a soap, almost an unfunny soap parody. Even though Erik can be quite funny in some scenes - particularly with Sara. Both the Thea storyline, the Felix one and now even the Synnøve one (the guy she was afraid to share a shift with all of a sudden shows up at her house cooking for her????? So much of this show seemingly occurs out of frame it is difficult to keep track - or even care. I hope the series gets back on track soon, and retrieve the feeling of authenticity and good will it had the first two seasons. The cast can save a lot, but not if the developments continue to annoy and anger viewers. And because of the large number of cast and storylines, episodes either should have been twice the length, or published daily.

I’m sure Mathias and Erik will end up together at one point, or at least be friends again soon. But to expect them to get right back together is crazy. You say how it’s not authentic anymore and some of there scenes are weird, but this is literally what happens when you’re a teenager. If anything, it’s spot on. I’d be more surprised if they did have Mathias and Erik back together in these first few episodes. This is gonna sound awful, but at this point I almost hope there is actually something worse going on at home for Felix, otherwise yes; he is genuinely just wining about wanting to forget his parents to Thea of all people, whom has lost her mom and doesn’t have her dad in her life. Just fucking disgraceful😅

Maybe as the show gives more development to their cast it gets more fun and people will be more curious for the other ones, but so far … I personally see this show only for the gay romance, but that’s my two cents.

Season 1 and 2 Erik wouldve 100% defended Mathias. I don’t know what went down in the writer’s room for season 3, but it’s really not it so far 😬

My guess is Felix feels split. At home he is the subordinate and obedient son trying his best to live up to his parents` expectations. Among other teens he pretends to be cool and tough. In reality I believe him to be a boiling kettle of suppressed gay longings and secret desire, first for Mathias, but now possibly that secret crush have been transferred to Erik. But because he fears his parents could reject him if they learned he was gay, he cannot be himself. Therefore he has created two personalities to hide inside, the obedient son, and the tough bully no one dare challenge to directly. He breaking down in tears after having found out about the kiss and called Mathias homophobic slurs, plus his question to Mathias about what Erik had that he himself hadn`t, gave him away. Felix is gay, but don`t know how to handle it, because of his parents.

I’m realizing the main problem here is that … maybe this behavior isn’t out of Erik’s character and this breaks my heart every time. I feel betrayed for having rooted for him at the beginning cuz I thought he was a nice kid, he’s becoming a complicit bullying though.

The Stockholm syndrome can be a very divisive issue.....I think the writers of this season are highlighting the immaturity of sixteen year olds....I know of no young person, straight, gay or transgender that don't have personality clashes with themselves while sorting themselves out....Exposing these traits in this show would be my guess as to its main purpose...to have all people engage in this tumultuous issue....surviving youth....While offering your opinion @agent1149, you are helping others form a response....for or against... I don't see Erik as a coward or turncoat, I see Erik trying to navigate the world of being gay in a homophobic world...wanting to be, but afraid to be....Why did Erik not put a $100 into the virginity pot? ....Erik is just as messed up as Mathias.....I don't see this issue being resolved...until Erik experiences being gay with someone more stable than himself and Mathias.
