Physics with Simon Poliakoff
Добавлен 29 авг 2012
Physics Videos for students and teachers. Some videos are step by step explanations for e.g. finding distance from a velocity time graph. Other videos are of demonstrations which are not explained but are intended for discussion during lessons or to see how to set up a demonstration/experiment.
Three great questions to see how well you understand forces
Ask students to draw these three force diagrams on mini whiteboards to check their understanding of forces.
Fully explained to help you use them in a physics or science lesson.

Drawing displacement-time or distance-time graphs as a teacher moves
Просмотров 7721 день назад
A useful activity when teaching physics. Students draw the graphs of your motion on mini white boards. Suitable examples included with expected answers.
Simple demonstration of balanced and unbalanced forces or resultant force

A simple physics demonstration using weights on two sides to create balanced and unbalanced forces on the trolley and to observe their effect. Useful when teaching physics.
Teaching distance time graphs with an ultrasonic motion sensor

A short vídeo discussing how to use a motion sensor when teaching distance time graphs. Video developed as part of an Ogden Trust Senior Teacher Fellowship. Thank you for their support in giving me more time to make videos and develop physics teaching ideas.
Slow dance of candles in a sound wave
Просмотров 127Месяц назад
A lovely demonstration showing candle flames oscillating as sound waves pass through. By almost matching the frequency of the sound waves to the frame rate of the video the flames appear to oscillate very slowly. Easy to set up in a physics lesson. Very nice to show live and with a video feed at the same time.

Question from a pleb. When that water dribbles out of the horizontal straw, is it not creating a partial vacuum at the top of the bottle? Thus helping atmospheric pressure to keep the water in?
I prefer to say reducing the pressure of the air in the top rather than creating a partial vacuum but yes you have understood the idea that there is less pressure from the air above the liquid. Good job.
I guessed Lower, Bigger, Middle But now I realize that the lack of liquid in the lower has less gravitational force to keep it down, and conversely the bigger has too much to allow it to sit for longer. And the middle is a nice balance
The lowest center of mass would be approximately having the same weight in liquid as weight of the bottle, minus whatever half the weight of the bottle is that's filled.
This would make a nice investigation - change the volume or mass of liquid and see how the angle of topple changes.
Western Ghar per nahin banana chahte the per dekh rahe Hain ki yah tumhara kam bhi karta hai ya nahin ya FIR bus sirf Ghar se karata hai meri koi galti ke sare paise kharch honge tumhen dekhkar karna isko yah theek lagta hai vah mere comment ko jarur like Karen aur ek comment bhej dijiye please reply karne ki koi jarurat nahin hai Varna to kuchh bhi mat karo reply bhi sakte to
Sweet comment in your video bahut achcha comment Kiya main bhi yahi Dena chahti thi lekin bahut Lamba chauda Ho Gaya main Hun Radha Kashyap ji
Its not amazing at all. Smh.
What material is the ring at the start of the video made up of?
I think they are made from Mylar but old video cassette tape is meant to work well as an alternative.
How come it bounces back?
Watch this video where I explain it step by step: Understanding the DC motor ruclips.net/video/YovyCv06a2E/видео.html
I’m an auto mechanic student I had to do a lab that was six hours and the lab assistant bugs, the car this dude puts a little piece of plastic in the negative terminal so I was stuck there for four hours looking at every single connection just to realize it was the battery sofb
Doesn’t sound fun!
Do you get a Fibonacci number sequence?
No but if you do sin(angle of incidence) / sin(angle of refraction) it should be constant
Do you get a Fibonacci number sequence?
What do you name this sheet?
A ray diagram
tysm very easy to understand 💖💖💖💖💖
Glad you liked it.
At first i thought eddy current lol

SO USEFUL
ten hundreth? a tenth then?
Yes.
The one on the left has higher thermal conductivity. It's that simple.
Copper is an excellent conductor, if it'll conduct electricity, it'll conduct heat as well
My guess before finishing the video, the blocks on the left are hollow.
A sensible suggestion.
10/100 of a mm, better 1/10, but anyway why so complicated. You dont really need fractions in a metric system. Just 0.1 mm 😉 nice demonstration though
Showing "Compressing Marshmallows" without compressing the damn marshmallow.
Excellent demonstration! I have a lab for school and my goal is to investigate the relationship between the horizontal distance of the two strings with its period. Do you know which equation connects the two variables because I’ve looked at many studies online and many people use different equations.
This is a good write up of the theory www.rose-hulman.edu/~moloney/PH235_F06/Bifilar_06_torques.doc
@@SimonPoliakoff thank you, ill look into it!
@@SimonPoliakoff according to this theory when you increase the seperation of the two strings will the period increase or decrease? Some studies i looked at shows that by increasing the separation distance the period decreases.
in other words, what is the direct relationship between period and separation distance? this is the equation: T = 2π ⋅ sqrt(IL/mgr^2)
Great trick, I was focused on what the left was doing and not on what the right side wasn't doing.
What is this for? Im craving marshmallows now :p
As a science experiment - more fun than stretching springs
Because you heated up the ones on the left.
Thats why i insist use condom.....i dont want get burn
Pressure
Pleased prepare Data table
So beautiful. Thank you a lot.
You are welcome.
So why can you see the same plastic plates on the right
The plastic plates are only on the right. The left is without the plastic. Once the left has finished melting I showed the set up of the right. With the commentary it is explained. Sorry for the confusion.
plrplease explain why
I have this video which explains diffraction grating spectra which is connected as it is all to do with the path difference from the two slits do that the waves arrive i. phase and constructively interfere. Diffraction grating spectra explained ruclips.net/video/Hdi8lRsKnZA/видео.html
That's mental!
Absolutely amazing vid
Glad you liked it!
how do they determine precisely the half life of long-lived elements or isotopes in the range of 10^16 years or more
If you have a known mass of the isotope then from the rate of radiation being emitted you can calculate the half life.
Thanks
I will definitely recommend you to my twin sister
Really helped me understand visually :).
Thanks to your videos I am developing a passion for science I like watching these videos will continue to watch a range more:).
Great to hear!
Thanks so much pretty cool. :)
After minutes and long searching finally found something good . Lovely video I’m in year 11 ❤ I will do waves topic test soon. Will download the worksheet and save this to my playlist to watch tomorrow morning before school ❤. I usually don’t comment on videos but this stood out thanks for everything and your hard work 🎉❤:).
Good luck!!
that's really wonderful;

Hope that means you found it useful!
thank you
You're welcome.
ten hundredths of a meter is a tenth of a meter 😭
Theres discs of not copper on the right side
Nice demonstration 🤍
What a fantastic explanation. I understood every step in the breakdown, very clear voice. Well done!
Great to hear you liked it. Even though the short is 3 minutes it takes a couple of hours to record the videos and plan out and record a clear explanation.
great use of the new long shorts
Glad you think so!
