What MIRREYE is this? Have some Respect for the Reo. Learn how to use a chisel! Picasso isn't Maori! Thats rather ridiculous I reckon. Can stand up to any Playschool carving. Ratshett work. Fkn disgrace to the Maori art of Whakairo!
I have so much respect for Darcy Nicholas. I had the great pleasure of meeting him in 2000 when I visited Aotearoa.
Ngā mihi nui Darcy, powerful, spiritual and speaking to deeply to our core and who we are
Rongoueroa and her mother Uiarei are Kahui Maunga and were taken from Taranaki by Whatonga and gifted to Toi. Toi took Uiarei as one of his wives and gifted Rongoueroa to his son Ruarangi. Their children were Whatonga, Rauru, Mahutonga, and one other. Rongoueroa was already pregnant to another and the name of that child Awanui was given by Toi. ,The name is from his people. My elders always told me to remember our origins are always Kahui Maunga . That is the story I carved on the house Te hungaririki, on Karau Marae. Darcy Nicholas.
Ko Rongoueroa is a daughter of Toi Te Huatahi of the Kurahaupo
From creation....... infinitely beautiful, haunting, comforting, tangible connection. Thank you so much for posting this!
Nga mihi e Pa. Miharo ou whakaaro me ou mahi xx

Beautiful wairua from the start to the finish. This is the feeling that I love because I know I'm part of a energy that is from the worlds above. And I'm interested in this type of artistry. Maori contemporary art is a beautiful gift and Thank you Darcy for your teachings. Absolutely beautiful.
Magnificent to see Darcy, the genius bringing his vision to life. Such an incredible legacy and what an incredible treasure of remembrance and honour. Thanks James for capturing this special insight of bringing Hinerangi to life
***** the hardest part was keeping up with him because whenever I decided to take a 5 or 10 minute break from filming he'd be well on to the next part of his sculpture! You know what he's like once he starts something it's full steam ahead ;)
Nona te reo tuatahi I rongo te tangata I runga te whenua, i mua nga korero o te pae, me te oti nga I te whenua.
