      Thanks! I hope to put out a thoughts video once I have time in Savage. Overall thoughts with the recent balance changes are, its a really strong job and has its old busted healing kit along with some new tools. The new cards aren't interesting as you just end up not needing them and overwriting them most of the time. But if you liked astro for its healer toolkit its still fun for that regard and keeps me playing it. I feel like the card system is half-baked and they arent even sure themselves what to do with it. Should be a very comfy healer to prog on now that draw is 55sec and 2 lightspeed charges.

    Hmm, I was on the fence about losing the extra 1 minute card but with the extra 5 seconds of divi during 2 mins, ast might've actually been way too strong compared to the other healers

      it's hard to say what the math comes out to be, consider that its raid buff counterpart SCH also got Chain Strategem up to 20 seconds (raid buffs across the board are up to 20). But yes in a vacuum thats 6% dps on all members for roughly 2 more gcds and a few ogcds. We have oracle for more burst but 1 less card (only looking at 2 min window). The other concern is forced melee card first which sucks in certain comps and can't find double melee card. Anyways... it gets complicated fast haha

      we might be getting some of that identity back/further identity starting sometime at or after 7.2 according to recent interviews. Just gotta wait it out and hope for the best!

    I *really* like the idea of abilities that can potentially enhance our card effects. The prescribed Dawntrail changes will adversely affect our rDPS, and your suggestion would definitely help with that. I also like the idea of having "cloned" cards - similar to the PvP system, which in my opinion is actually a really good iteration of Astrologian. I'd love to see elements of the Doublecast system integrated into our healing/DPS toolkit to help with our aDPS, especially during the opener, and Sun Sign needs to be more impactful - its a great ability, but seems a bit limp compared to other capstone skills...

      The thing I do like about it is you do not always use Neutral Sect, so it makes that button useable even in the times you wont be GCD healing. But generally I agree, its generic, havent really thought about what it could be replaced with.

      Also bummed from what we see here overall. If fight design demanded these healing tools I would be more open to it but regardless, less nuance and interesting optimization like we had in Shb/EW imo

    Gravity gain on 3 is abit sludge, two target fights(where’ they’re clumped up) become a bit iffy unless they bump the potency on 7.0. LS is still a DPS gain on Div windows because you have more flexibility in when and where the card is played, neutered sure, but essentially it let’s you go for near perfect card plays, rather than adjusting the sequence every two minutes because of astrodyne. The limitations with the statement earlier is that the melee card is always going to be the 1st card, depending on how people burst, it might force you to card later, scuffing your card window for the ranged card. This can potentially lock out comps that has a weird burst timing or too strict with a harsh fall off (SMN - assuming their opener remains the same). It’s probably still cookable with cards, needs more data. As for concerns with ast doing less dmg than other healers. It’ll probably depend on comp, same as before as some dps classes got some really cracked 15s burst like DRG with a potential triple Nastrond under card. The funny new div follow up button is oGCD so it’ll woven in for free, WHM and SGE are GCDs so it’ll replace a Dosis or Glare cast which isn’t that big of an increase in the long run all while you still blast malefic. The other cards having different effects may look cool as you basically mit every dps potentially, and have tanks cover healers for hard hitting mechanics, etc.. there’s also the other argument that we’ll get more intensive heal checks - I do hope, but it’s not very high because EW gave tanks and healers more healing/mitigation tools, but a lot of them goes unused. There are only specific phases that really stress healer toolkits such as p8sp2 NA, the mit check on patch in DSR end of p2-p3, TOP Looper with ST Heals and P3 before mit range buff. There is probably a bigger emphasis on buffing deploy as SCH will probably want to just send the recitation on indom with it’s 60s, so you’ll probably be giving the healing received buff on whoever gets protraction. Then again, it’ll really depend on fight design if your kit is fun to interact with the fight or not. Maybe a lot of random spot healing on people getting random dot debuffs like wow, but we don’t know. EW healing wasn’t really that complex unless you want to opti for lb generation...

      Great point on Gravity becoming a loss on 2, I didn't even think about that. I believe WHM already had a loss on it and Sage and SCH still have a gain on 2. Yeah it is all a big if on how impactful the new card setup will be. I do also hate the flexibility loss of having forced melee card first in the burst windows (delaying it to catch all of SAM burst too). I guess itll be fun to optimize for your particular comp but im not sure how i feel fully yet. Give us more to heal pleaseeeee LS is a DPS gain of course but it'll feel less bad to put into other windows of time for movement and potential DPS gain from lack of malefic casts, especially while progging and also the flexibility of emergency faster rez if needed.

    I sometimes would joke to my static that AST was a single target healer because lining up aoe heals wasn't as reliable for some fight timelines. Seeing macrocosmos become a dps loss kinda makes me laugh. I'm pretty excited to have all these little buttons to click. I can't even complain if I have to hold my 60 second card for the 2 min window, because I have all these other fun little (single target) things to help the team with. The main downside for me is that I had 7 card macros on my controller to do burst windows with, but it made me wish I could macro all my single target heals and mit to avoid scrolling down the party. But I'm happy with this expansion. Single player msq campaigns may still be boring and npc's may still be topping us off every 2 hp but this is definitely an improvement for me.

      I am glad to hear it you are liking the changes!! I am still skeptical on how itll feel but I don't plan on leaving AST. I also love the aoe heal setup for fights, its one of my favorite parts of AST, helps to discuss with your cohealer and all that good stuff for sure. hope you enjoy!

    Correct me if I’m wrong in the new draw system, if you do double draw in opener (1 pre pull and 1 during) does that not push astral draw into the 1 min window and out of 2 min buffs? Or is it going to become optimal to hold to only force draws during 2 min?

      On Spawn and Respawn, Astral set will already be drawn and ready to go with Umbral ready to draw whenever correct. Use both DPS cards at opener. At 1 minute use the Astral draw but do not use the DPS card. Use it the weave or anytime before you Umbral draw at the 2 minute and repeat. So effectively the Astral card will be ready to go pre-openers and reopeners with Umbral drawn during them.

      So realistically this doesn’t solve any of AST issues, you’re still trying to force as much of your damage cards under buffs. I think you’ve done a fantastic explanation on things and I’ve been an AST main the past two expansions, but these changes just feel out of touch with those that play the job. I do look forward to how you suggest how changes should go. I think button bloat is a hugggee problem. I think benefic 1/benefic 2 should go away and shift aspected benefic just be your starting healing ability. Also the added mention of synastry being useless especially with the new card changes just get rid of it.

    Since AST only gives out one damage card per minute with the changes, our rDPS contribution will be impacted adversely. Also, Even with the higher potencies on LoC and Oracle, our personal DPS still appears to be noticeably lower than the other healers (not sure about SCH given their changes). I think both Lord and Lady should have a damage component to them, in addition to another effect. For example, Lord = 400 potency + slows enemies. Lady = 250 potency AoE damage + 250 potency AoE heal (or reduces damage dealt?). I'm not good with math, but you get the idea. Additionally, I don't think there should be a melee vs. caster damage card - this clearly favors melee DPS as the Astral draw phase aligns with our burst window, so any hot shot casters won't get the most buff potential (Div + card + Chain Strat + Tech step, etc). I am an AST player who does favor unique card effects vs. having *only* damage cards, but I agree that these new healing/mitigation effects seem excessive given Astros incredibly strong healing kit. We can solo Ultimates for a reason. I wish they had done away with Collective Unconscious personally (if its not going to be placeable), not given us a third ED charge, and maybe even dumped Celestial Opposition OR Earthly Star (even though I like both of those skills a lot) If the plan was to give us cards that heal. So many of our healing tools just don't get used because we don't need them, and if we've got three play action buttons now, the bloat is the same as it was before...

      Yeah the bloat is definitely not that much better if at all. Our healing toolkit is crazyyy and we just got more tools with the cards so the question is why? I want to see how the first savage floor goes before really being critical about it but I will continue to be skeptical. As for the card issue during burst. You should always have both 1 melee and 1 ranged card during burst windows. This is because when you spawn in the Astral cards are drawn and the Umbral draw is off CD so you can use it within the burst window to pull the ranged card and use it as well. This continues forward with pulling Astral at 1 min, saving it for 2 and drawing Umbral again at 2 to use the DPS card for it again. So the classic 3:1:3 cadence of card buffs we have now just turned into 2:0:2 with both cards being 1 of each. Yeah we will see with potencies and all that once we can get some raid data in. It feels like we are missing out on a bit but we also have the increased Div duration by 5 seconds which adds a little bit as well.

      I wish balance and spear were diff. like one was raw dmg boost, one was crit or dh like in stormblood. and I wish there was an mp regen card like there used to be that we could use on us or give out to co heal, caster, etc.

I could definitely see a use for an MP card instead of the one with HP regen as an example. we have too many single target healing tools and that would be one way they could give us MP regen that we lost with Astrodyne. I do wonder if they are worried about the balance of that since no other healer can provide MP (if they implemented this) but who knows

    I believe that in this expansion enemies will hit a lot harder than they used to, which is why healers are given so many healing options, you'll either heal them a big chunk at once or they'll die.

    personally i would add the ability for cards to be upright or reversed similar to real tarot readings. the reversed cards are played on the target and surrounding enemies, and have a detrimental effect (for example the damage buff card reversed would be a reduced damage dealt effect, a damage reduction card reversed would be an increased damage taken effect, increased healing effects card reversed would reflect any heals done as a % of damage to the target. and maybe the shield (spire?) card reversed would become a damaging ability. your eyes are beautiful.

      I think this is a really cute idea. The only problem is with current culture and game balance, will it be expected that you always use the effect that equals more damage? This would be nice to have the flexibility for those tough sections where the utility saves the party or what not, but I can see this system being frowned upon if not handled correctly. and thanks for the compliment! :)

    Does this mean that they removed undraw,redraw, sleeve draw and made a draw card that is 1 min cd to draw the 4 cards, but to play the individual cards there would have to be the 3 separate cards and maybe draw to play the crown or lady cards in order to pick which card you want to play? So like a play 1 play 2 play 3 play4?

      Correct, this is the current assumption but we are lacking critical information (whether or not you can choose the order of casting play 1-3, since the trailer shows the same order both times) lord and lady (play 4) will most definitely be a separate button as it is now, given they did Lord last in the 1st set and Lady first in the 2nd set.

    Maybe they will make it so whichever job type you have targeted will activate the card for the role. I.e. targeting a dps will activate the damage card, targeting the healer will activate the heal card, and such, targeting the tank will activate the defensive card. If you already used the card for the role, then it will just do the familiar "Invalid target." Just a thought!

      this would then beg the question, what do these cards do? not sure why we would want a "curative" card you can only use on a healer when everyone else takes equal or more damage. Unless the curative effect is MP regen in which case I could see it. interesting thought!! we will have to wait and see haha

      @@slicedpie I have a feeling they are going to revert back to something similar to what the cards did in Heavensward; although, not precisely. I don't think the "heal" card will actually heal.     I really, REALLY hope there is a slight difference between the two sets and that we get to choose the order we use them. (Although I dread how that might work with controller.) This would bring astro back in line with its original identity of unique cards that people have been asking for but removes the RNG. It should be the best of both worlds but watch people still be mad about it... For example to align with old card effects - Balance - Dmg% buff Spear - Critical% buff Bole - Def% buff Ewer - MP HoT? Spire - HP HoT For Arrow - This suggestion isnt based on an old card design because previously Arrow boosted skill speed which people hated. Instead in its new defence position I'd like it to be Addle/Feint but make it 5% phys and magic reduction. Not sure if we need a mana HoT but we have enough instant heals with Lady of Crowns and now 3 stacks of Essential Dignity that I'd like the regenerative cards to do something different. Edit: Thought of a nice effect for Ewer or Spire. When the target takes damage, recover % of damage taken as HP. Either give this a decent % and make it one off, would work nicely for tank busters. Or give it a smaller heal% and make it over time, like a small lilybell for multi hits.

      I like the idea for Ewer and/or Spire but once again that goes along with your concern of too many healing tools where it becomes not necessary 99% of the time. If fight design demanded the healing going forward this would be nice. I can definitely see them giving one of them a MP HoT due to the fact we are losing a lot of mana gain from Astrodyne, this just has the added flexibility of being able to give someone else mana too which is really cute. Arrow being a targeted mit could be VERY strong, but we do see them target players with all 6 cards during the trailer so unless it changes, I don't think that's their plan. IF they did go down the line of being able to cast cards on the buff as a debuff sometime in the future, we could even see like a mini-version of Chain Strategem or Mug, but maybe just 1 or 2% (this being on a Spear). I don't like this too much because it removes decision making for who to give your single target card buff too but its just a random idea.

      @@slicedpie An alternative I thought of for Arrow could be movement speed increase, so single target expedient to help someone dodge something. Keeps it in the same vein as its old design with it being a speed buff without people getting mad about rotation alignment. :D It is hard to think of things that are varied but don't counteract other peoples jobs. Like original Spear reducing cooldown timers is amazing, but it would probably just mess up peoples burst alignments unless coordinated well. And now that you mention it, you're right about keeping the cards focussed on players. I was trying to think of more variety but now I agree it should stay as player buffs.

      Yay, I called it - kind of. The new card effects are a little safe but I was along the right lines! Now I hope they bring back some of the time mage essence of Astro in the next expac to interplay with the cards. They said they are aiming to bring back "job flavour" in next expac so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

    Excited for the AST changes, need more info though! That's a lot of button bloat if suddenly AST has 3 buttons to play all 3 cards, the only thing I can think of that could make that idea feel somewhat good is if it's like Ninja's mudra, a very low cooldown gcd

      while their might be 3 play buttons we are losing Redraw and Minor Arcana buttons. Draw could just turn into playing lady/lord, Play would be Play 1, Redraw into Play 2, and Minor Arcana into Play 3

My only concern for controller players if you have so many play buttons as another controller player pointed out in the comments; if you use macros to target each person individually for the "play" ability, you need a lot more macros for so many "play" buttons now. will have to figure out a workaround or do it more manually going forward potentially. I dont personally play on controller but wish you guys the best!

    AST is the onyl hlr without a movement increase or mobility ability and it is quite unfair

      As far as we can tell, yes for the most part. If lightspeed stays and it would seem it isn't necessary for the 2 minute window, that ability is very strong for movement.

      @@polydipsiac i agree, and i bet many would agree as well, the issue is it realistically won't change because that's just how all raid buffs work now. at least with some of the other buffs they come with something else attached (notably off the top of my head; DNC, RPR, MNK all provide some sort of resource and BRD has a similar system to old Divination with seals just without the RNG). Maybe div could give us some sort of interesting buff or interaction but I think it'll just be that new 2min spender like SCH and WHM have realistically speaking.

    I'd like to talk about a few aspects of the card mechanics i think you may have overlooked. these actions are very nuanced and i think they are tied to the buff astros will get that is like the one linked to presence of mind. this buff i think may be tied to the action that fills our cards. in the astro's case, draw might become sleeve draw when we get the trait during the 90s because thats the animation we see when the cards are filled and this buff may be also tied to the lord and lady for the following reasons. there are 2 animations tied to the lord and the lady that are in the trailer you may have missed. there is a tiny golden spark above her planisphere at the start of the dark golden animation of the twelve that is above the lion that is after she plays the lord. there is the same animation with a white spark above her planisphere in the final action of the trailer that is really hard to see because white on white. those might be the buffs that are tied to sleeve draw. this is total speculation but its fun to pick apart these actions and see if we got them correct when the game launches :)

    I believe the new Aspected Helios is something new entirely effect wise. The "healing" aura effect isn't there when it lands on everyone so it may not be a heal/shield.

    my biggest concern as a controller player is with there being the different card types are there going to be 3 different play actions. the main reason being even though the balance says not to i play my cards via macros to have them play to the targeted player. I find that i'm far more consistent in being able to keep my gcd rolling. when i soft target mid combat there's a massive drop off for me keeping it going.

      yeah i totally get it, I dont play on controller but i feel you on that. macros is definitely viable, no reason to listen to what others say if it works for you. even if there are 3 different play buttons we should be losing astrodyne and redraw. they could combine drawing all 4 cards into playing lord or lady, the old play is just play 1, and then the buttons you used for astrodyne and redraw are play 2 and play 3. goodluck!!

      The issue is so I have eight separate macros for the cards to each member of the party and if there ends up being three separate cards to play, I can't place 24 play macros, it's just not viable

      @@Xilibrius oh yeah I am dumb, didn't think of it in that sense. yeah I am no controller expert so not entirely sure the best course of action for it. maybe it would be nice to have a button like redraw but instead its just cycling through your 3/4 cards as a selection mechanism, and then 1 play button that plays whatever card selected? but that would require SE to make it that way unless you can mod that somehow

    It looks like the two sets, blue and purple, are homage to diurnal and nocturnal stances, which is really nice for them to bring back. Currently, it just feels like diurnal is your default, nocturnal doesn't exist outside of a long cool down.

    Astro went from customizing their randomly drawn cards consistently throughout the fight, working with various options for even niche situations and sleeve draw which was a big help in nailing down those buffs, to just buff cards for damage, to buff cards where symbols helped you get buffs of your own to now.. drawing the same cards that do the same things each time every 60 seconds so the card mechanic has become a far smaller element of AST despite being 1/2 core elements that being Star Magic and Cards. So we are now a white mage with timed heals and a buff window... Whoopie... I hope its not that way but seriously this is kind of destroying the core identity of Astrologian.

      We need to see what the cards do first. If the cards get their old flavour back, I think it could be a nice revert but without the RNG. I still miss being shield astro though big time. I know people meme'd on it which is hilarious since now double shield is the best combo.

    My guess for the last skill is an upgraded Celestial Opposition. I do wish they would do something with horoscope making it not require the GCD heal to get the full effect of the cure.

    I know it was just brainstorming but the brief mention of "what if we could choose which set we drew with separate buttons" immediately gave me angst imagining an essay on the Balance discord about why you should delete the Lady of Crowns set from your hotbar because it's less dps.

      haha that's fair. it would be nice if in turn the dps buff card was maybe stronger or at least acted differently in this case. also the flexibility is nice in prog scenarios to have some more easy heals or in some micro optimized situations where lady can save you a gcd heal. but yeah..... who knows

    In my opinion, the new card system is a lot like Scholar's Aetherflow: every minute you get a small number of resources that you have to spread out until the next minute comes up. You get four cards instead of three charges, but each card is less flexible because it only does one thing. Basically Scholar but you can't Aetherflow dump on Energy Drain, but you get an extra Aetherflow charge to compensate.

    The dream to me would be if for example the blue cards are Dmg buff (to melees), Mitigation (shields), Heal buff (% increase). And the pink cards are Dmg buff (Ranged), Mitigation (% based) and Heal (flat heal).

      Yeah that could definitely be possible. If that is how it is, I wonder why make the 2 damage cards (presumably the ones on the left of the three) both the old melee cards. That gives me doubts about it but who knows, could also just not be the damage cards. will have to wait and see i guess

      ​@slicedpie Because this set up aligns with original astro where balance/spear were dps buffs, bole was a defence buff and spire/ewer were regenerative. The only outlier is arrow which used to be skill speed increase but they've used it here as the remaining defence card.
