Pro tip to anyone wondering about the short display stand arms. Separately neither of the two arms are tall enough to display Unit 13 hovering off the ground. But you can use a small screwdriver to remove the top joint of the short arm and the bottom joint of the longer arm and put them together. Just be careful because it would be easy to lose the tiny screw, nut and washer.

Real gundam shows feel like hard science fiction shows on the level of Ghost in the Shell or Patlabor. There are adults with old fashioned hairdos giving orders and a sense of realism and lived in feel to the universe. The new ones break from the traditional "real robot show" into toy commercial because they want to sell toys and models and action figures which is totally ok by me since I collect toys. But the distinction must be made because a science fiction show with semi-realistic lore is considered the whole appeal of "real robot shows" because this was a break away from the super robot shows of the past where machines were virtually invincible and skill of the pilot wasn't even a factor. Gundam as a real robot show = proper science fiction war story Gundam as a ad for toys = it's got battles that feel almost like super robot show level of un-realism. Gundam Wing was the start of that trend where the character is like James Bond cannot die, and you feel like there is no sense of real danger like you would see in a real war movie. (the dude actually self destructs the internal cockpit of his gundam and lives so there is a sense he is not even human lol) The non-real gundam fans are all those who just want to see explosions, cool robot fighting, and are ok with designs that look toyetic. The old school fan prefers a sense of vulnerability to all the pilots (even the ones with psi-powers) such that you can almost see them dying in a fight against a pilot as good as themselves. You don't get that with kids shows. In a kids show nobody dies and pretty much being wounded is the most that will happen. (much like marvel comics in the days of the comics code authority label on them to ensure they are not too dark) Are people who like the original gundam superior to you? I believe it's just a preference. I like real robot shows because I like to see the hero get his butt kicked a lot during a battle and only survive a loss but not die. In a kids show there is never a sign that they could ever fail at anything unless it's the final battle with the antagonist. This is not realistic because in war people of high skill could just die from bad luck. (see SDF Macross and the shock of Roy Fokker's death. Hikaru looked up to him as a mentor so if he died, it sends a message to the audience that Hikaru ain't as invincible as he thinks just because he was into aerial acrobatics in his youth) Why is it important for a main character to be vulnerable like us? Because we can relate to imperfect characters. One of the reasons people did not like the Rey character in the star wars sequel trilogy is because she is a Mary Sue. Mary Sue characters are people ho have no flaws and know everything and the most skilled people in the story in such a way that no character could ever teach them anything or be required to help them or save their life. This is literally a demi-god character in a story which eliminates any interest in them as peoeple. (because nobody related to perfect characters who are invincible. Normal main characters can have plot armor but they can be wounded and almost die just like real people in real war) Since kiddy shows have chracters that are ultimate power, there is no hero's journey to go on. They do everything everyone else aspires to do and so lack any story. Gundam Wing is the first one to transform Gundam from a "Real Robot" Show (science fiction) into action show with mechas. An action show with mechas means the main character can act like a action star in a holywood movie with some badass lines and the story is a power fantasy. But a realistic war movie doesn't do that: they show the soldier as a vulnerable person that can at any moment die. Old gundam had the feel of a war story and not an action hero movie from hollywood blockbuster movie. Armored Trooper VOTOMS, Gundam, and SDF: Macross all had that gritty war story feel to them. Patlabor took it to an extreme by making the robots pretty 'helpless' without support vehicles like a flatbed truck transporting them. (the cops only use them against other mechas and not against everything) So there we have it: the older fans are the better gundam fans because they know why the original was so appealing to older people. The newer fans don't care and that is totally ok since the universes are seperate universes. Being better doesn't mean more important. It just means your taste is refined. You watched dozens of super robot shows, found them predictable and wanted something with more hard science fiction to suspend your disbelief. Gundam (the original) provided it, and that is the appeal of gundam over all the old 1970s shows which focused on making robots super heroes with invincible strength rather than mas-production machines that can be blown up. If kiddy gundam wants to go back and regress back towards super robot shows again that is ok, but it clearly betrays the purpose of the Real Robot genre. The Real Robot genre appeals to people who actually build real robots and want that realism in their science fiction stories. Old Gundam was showing the vulnerable side to robots that they are just machines and machines can break down, become obsolete, and be outperformed by newer models with better materials, more advanced weapons, and improvements in armor and speed. (just like tank or fighter planes in the real world) This is the core appeal of Gundam. When you take away that part, and it just becomes an action show with mechas, it then borders on becoming a kids show because of the lack of danger in battle scenes. Kids shows historically avoid the concept of people with high skill dying or heroes being occassionally humbled by events out of their control which to me is immature. In war you don't have a guy single-handedly winning the entire war. You need armies and spies, and strategist to succeed too. If you are losing there is a the diplomat to buy some time, and if you are winning there is the need to press the attack to stop enemy gathering strength. (all part of real war in history - being too slow to overpower the enemy will mean the war drags on longer and ends up with more casualties on both sides) Kids shows avoid the team effort it takes, and the old shows didn't feel like male power fantasy stories but actually show the gritty and ugly side to wars so even if the hero wins he still feels guilt at all the killing too. In real war young men come back changed and get PTSD. The real Gundam doesn't avoid that stuff. Those are the kind of things all war story has in them. If Wing appeals to normies and converted them into being fans of Gundam then Bandai succeeded. However that doesn't mean fans of Real Robot shows should have to respect Wing and all the other ones over UC. UC is still very much a hard science fiction show with a bit of fictional crap to make it interesting. (eg no guided missiles because of the minovsky particle thing. This means close combat and dogfighting is useful in space) Realism within the fictional lore of the universe helps adults imagine the world as if it was real. This is valuable because it means you can have characters that do not come off as Mary Sues (or Gary Stues if its a male) and we can relate to them more than we can the protagonist of a kids show.

this had to be THE worst figure I ever had the displeasure of buying, the arm sockets were too small for the arms and snapped the sockets and when I tried to contact Bandai about it, they just said sucks to suck since it was produced more than 8 months ago, the biggest waste of money I've ever spent

I recently purchased both the Metal Robot Spirits Wing Zero and Epyon at pretty much the same time. I immediately put them both in their iconic on screen poses; The rolling buster rifle for the Wing Zero, and the Epyons max Beam Sword pose just before it took down Space Fortress Barge. As impressed with these figures as I was, I've already got my favorite Gundam; Deathscythe Hell coming by mail as we speak. And I do fully intend to get the Altron Gundam after I recieve Tallgeese 2 at Christmas. Going to be epic.
