Run The London Underground 2016
On 9 January 2016 two South Africans embarked on an epic journey to run the entire London Underground. On 17 December 2016 we completed this journey; having run 503 km and reaching 270 stations. We were joined by many great runners and friends and we saw London like not many have seen before. What an epic journey

Royal Marines Beating Retreat - Sarie Marais
Daar onder in die mielies by die groen doringboom, Daar woon my Sarie Marais!
What else can you say. But Magnetic 😅
Love listening to this " LIVE" when I am in London....Sarie Marais....OO bring my terug na die Ou Transvaal....sang by the boers in the second Boer war
Beautiful… 🟧⬜️🟦 🤝 🇬🇧
The British even stole the boers songs.
I wouldn't say stealing. It's actually a sign of respect of the brave boers and their resistance against the empire. Most nations have " adopted " song from other nations. Please don't act like this is the British stealing and looting a song lmao. America is full of adopted songs, Uk has adopted songs And most of Europe, and so on.
After the horrors of the Boer wars, Afrikaners and Englishmen could set the past behind and work towards the future. Till this day the British respect our resistance, as seen by the Royal Marines adopting Sarie Marais. No malice, no hatred. Two peoples united by our troubled history, on seperate paths, but forever binded.
Correct. Times change, people change, situations change. My grandfather hated the English because he lost a lot of relatives in the "Boerenoorlog" ( as a lot of Dutch people did) but in WW II things changed. The Germans, who we thought were friends, became our ennemies and the English became our friends. Myself: i have good memories of working together wit both te German army and the army of GB.
Afrikaners 🤝 Englishmen FOREVER BROTHERS
@@seamonster936 wow calm down… the Germans wouldn’t have treated you better! Edit: I know the horrendous crimes the British did against the Boers. But the Germans… don’t think the Kaisereich nor Nazi Germany would have be friendly towards the Afrikaners. But I’m happy that despite what happened in the first and second boer wars, the Afrikaners and the English could put their differences aside and work together to create the beautiful country that *WAS* the Union of South Africa 🟧⬜️🟦
@@Kaiser7068 What are you talking about? What in God’s name does Germany have to do with this, besides their marginal support for our cause during the Second Boer War. By the way, my grandfather was born in German South West Africa as a subject of the German Emperor.
Britain killed more than 25000 woman and children in the concentraition camp Bloemfontain! The song "Sari Marai" is a burensong, against the british invasion! Britain a real ugly state! They bild good ships and enterd the spanish Armada to get the gold, they could not pay the tea from china, they did the opium war to bring this to china and to get chinese goods; Britain bombes 1945 only few month bevor end 2nd world war the town of Dresden, only reasen to kill! The town was filled up with refugees from eastern german regions. Britain, this fogy island concerd the word to rub the world! Thanks god, Britain is out of EU!
Pardon my ignorance, but where is this?

Beating Retreat... Quite fitting... Remember how a handful of volunteer, under-gunned, outnumbered and out classed farmers terrorized the most powerful imperial army for three long years.
*British farmers

@@MrDurrant15 Wow you suck at history
Retreat in this instance means retire for the evening and notes in being beaten and skedaddling.
Dankie Mike
Hey! Theres someone singing Afrikaans in a English country😅😅
I'm from "Britain's Oldest Colony", and I sing it in Afrikaans.
You know a once enemy has respect for a past adversary if they proudly march to one of their folk songs. 1899 - 1902 We terrorized the most powerful empire on the planet to the point of desperation. 1939-1945 Battled together against Hitler as equals.
And guess what.We still hate the britts. We didn't really faught for them cause we wanted revenge cause Germany did nothing to help us in boer war
@@jacopretorius7921 Still gave the Krauts hell and received respect from the Empire, that you can't deny.
If it was up to us we would have (and some did) fight alongside the Wehrmacht.
@@PrinceAlhorian That is a massive soutie cope my man. Only joiners fought with you. Not Boere. Afrikaner joiners.
@@boerisch3504 dude... Chill... If the "Boere" are so much more superior to the "Afrikaners", please tell me... Why haven't they marched up and reclaimed their blessed country of birth?
Retreat? Retire & redeploy
This was the marching tune of the South African army of volunteers who fought on the allied side in North Africa and Italy in World War 2.
My grandfather was in Egypt ,born of Prussian missionaries I asked him about war he said it was terrible.
And not one South African flag in sight... :-(
'n Vierkleur sou meer gepas wees...
@@tdvnox Nie in hierdie konteks nie. Die Uniemagte het hierdie as hulle mars gebruik tydens die Eerste Wêreldoorlog. Die Oranje, Blanje Blou is gepas.

For this Boer, and only for this one time, I will say; God Save the Queen.
The queen and her bloodline can rot, them adopting a song does not erase the origin of that song
@@alexvermaak1759 Time to move on.
@@joelcamp5445 I dont hold a grudge against the British people, but I'm never saying "God save the queen", especially in relation to this song
@@alexvermaak1759 I dont think anyone was asking you to, Johan was having a bit of fun. But a massive insult to us is pointless, it just perpetuates old hostilities.
@@joelcamp5445 how is me not forgetting the concentration camps our grandmothers (including mine) were put in, and asking God to bless the family who put them there a "massive insult" to you?
Bravo
Quite poignant, Sarie Marreis, a South African song about Boer nostalgia played by a British military band.
We nicked everything else 😎
@ultrabaiter or maybe it's just a great marching tune? You know the Brits; if they want it for themselves, they'll take it...
@@seannel7464 Remember one thing, South Africa knocked out a few teeth and they were shocked that farmers could fight better than them. We put a big impression on them and they respect that, I wouldn't say nicked but out of respect.
there are others "The watchtower march" is from Rudolstadt in Germany originally named "Hoch Heidecksburg"
It's the March of the Royal Marines Commando Forces.
As a Dutchman (and ex marine) it is weird to hear that the British adopted a freedom song from the "Boerenoorlog" in wich they are the "bad" guys
Peter Visser ja ja dit is so! Very strange
Nothing strange about this group of commandos adopting the tune of those courageous Boer Kommandos out of respect and admiration. Furthermore consider this quotation, ""Give me 20 divisions of American soldiers and I will breach Europe . Give me 15 consisting of Englishmen, and I will advance to the borders of Berlin . Give me two divisions of those marvelous fighting Boers and I will remove Germany from the face of the earth." Field Marshal Bernard L. Montgomery, Commander of the Allied forces during WWII.
peter, as far as the text goes, it seems that the boer-soldier who sings it deserted the cause, "I escaped to Opington near the great river" afraid that the kakies would deport me to australia if they captured me.
@@zymelin21 Well no not necessarily. You had the main boer force which surrendered around 1900, but the bittereinders fought the guerrilla war and were very effective. He could've been a commando who wanted to go see his love in upington which means exposing himself in the british controlled cape colony.
