This live version is a masterpiece. Soooooo much better than the studio one. Love it.
STUNNING!!!!! Found The Divine Comedy by chance, and now I'm hooked!
Incredible!
Neil is a miserable git. GEAT band though.
Drummer tighter than a Nun's crack.
I saw them on this tour in Sheffield, so good. I love the end of this song, the bit the single version misses of.. that he does love.. himself.. her.. I always took that to mean he did love her all along, but not sure now..
I love this song. It makes me happy and also has an environmental message. Amazing.
Amazing.
As always, outstanding and that voice. Even in the darkest songs,,Joby Talbot’s arrangements are like a warm luxurious bath: “Good life” is a classic example. Right up there with Sir Paul and the Great American Songbook. Neil is beyond explanation.
Quality
Love you always ..xx
What is that opening horn part?
French national anthem, la Marseillaise
He has the most amazing voice
I saw The Divine Comedy at the Ross on Wye festival in 1998. They were fantastic live.
Stonking. I’m so hyped rn
Great to see this, as even though the film has finally been released, this song wasn't included. But desperately sad that Miggy is no longer with us
1996... The year of my wonderful discover about Neil and his divine comedy.... Always in my Heart ,thanks for sharing 👍👍
Great musician and lyricist. 🎷🎷🎺🎺🎸🎸🪕🪕🎻🎻
This smoking thing has got all out of hand!
This version is perfection
Do you also prefer this version
Loved Neil and the Divine Comedy when I was a kid, and listening to it now just reminds me just how talented and clever he is. And their latest music is just as exceedingly good.
Haha brilliance
This meter in this song is just right for this song why would you slow it down for the clip if it worked live and it did- keep it=sigh
Why do I love this particular version
4:19 drummer flicked his right stick. Seen this so many times and only just noticed! Quality drumming.
I love this version so much more than the album version. Seeing Neil's extra facial expressions, movements, and vocal flourishes really make it a special performance. Release the full concert, I say!
Genius!.. can´t stop hearing this brilliant song!
I miss my friend Miggy so much.... I hope your playing those drums in heaven my friend...
Best live performance I've ever (not) seen. Would kill to have been there
Miss pal x
I was 13 then and I’m still a fan today. Love Neil. I was the only child in my class (and possibly school) who liked The Divine Comedy, but I didn’t care. ☺️
I'm 16 now and I have the same situation right now lol
I'd say your Class have all caught up with you since then.
Just Beautiful! Muchas, muchas Gracias, Amigo
I love the story of how it got played on radio 1 because Chris Evans heard it at a friend's party and had it played on his show the following Monday
Sorry just read description doh😀. I was there brilliant night
Can anyone tell me where this was?
Why oh why hasn’t this whole show seen the light of day? It was epic.
is there any recording of the rest?
Genius..
Wow.
I love neil hannon he deserves a knighthood for his writing ...he is so innovative, he writes songs that are different and complex.and funny sometimes too?.he is unique in the music world and a master at what he does,...i really feel he has never had the recognition he deserves..xxx bless you neil..you have brought me so much joy in my life...xx
The drumming on this song is my favourite drumming on any Divine Comedy song, 3/4 goodness!
Neil (and Divine Comedy) at its best! I think Casanova is really the masterpiece of an entire (and superb) discography
❤️❤️❤️
Sublime.
5:10 to 5:25 Neil nailed those notes perfect. The big band live sound and this song are like peaches and cream with Neil in charge. Thank you for the post!
Miss you Miggy.
I’ve just found this - loving the energy of these earlier shows - Neil is a lyrical sharp minded genius and a natural on stage - such a talent 😍
I'm off to see him in halifax on the 13th of May I wasn't even alive in 1996 I was born in 05
noni
In my memory at the end of A Drinking Song he jumped up on a grand piano in a kimono and splashed guinesss about, or was it champers. This did happen didn't it.
Never seen this video before. I was there.
Wonderful.
