You guys have to mesure the thickness very carefully before you change them. On that video, the pads seem to be 1mm and 0.5mm thick. If you put only 1mm thick pads, the part which need 0.5mm thick pads will create an imbalance and your card will heat up even more than before. The GPU may also make a bad contact to the heatsink. Don't listen to the poster of that video and MEASURE your pads.

Thanks! but I don't know why you need to disassemble the housing and fans. Seems like you are creating more points of failure. Just take off the 6 screws off the bottom. I know those little fans can break easily.

Just deep cleaned a used Zotac 970 I purchased from FB. Thanks for the video! FWIW, I used 1.0mm thermal pads all around *except* for a single piece of 1.5mm on the smallest part of the heatsink under the main heatsink.

So tempted to repaste my zotac gtx970, but too scared if something goes wrong, to not be able to get a new GPU. No iGPU in my system

Finally changed the thermal paste of my zotac gtx 970. Your video was great help. The process was not easy. Had to disassemble the card twice. After 1st installation the temp went so high and the system turned off. Thermal paste was from cooler master. After disassembly I found memory module was hot and it was the thermal pad that caused the issue. The pad was of 1mm thickness. I reduced the thickness of the pad by applying pressure and slowly spreading it. I installed the card once again and everything is working fine. There is a difference in temperature. GTA 5 max out around 65. Previous it was 80. Battlefield 5 also have similar trend. Wreckfast and snowrunner max out at 70. Previous it was 90 If anyone is changing thermal pad. Buy a good one. If possible buy one of 0.5mm

Just did this and used your video for reference thanks. And good tip on the dust filter. The original thermal paste was awful and was applied everywhere except the CPU for my unit.
