I Reduced My Ride Weight 13 Percent! #mtb #diabetes
ruclips.net/channel/UCq90f3r3jlTLhwNIsrDtVqg Join me as I pedal through the twists and turns of my life-changing quest. The hook? My ride weight dropped by a whopping 13%! But here’s the real twist: It’s not about shedding grams off my bike; it’s about shedding pounds off my body.
1. The Diabetes Connection: Diabetes knocked on my door, and I decided to kick it right back. Research shows that even a modest weight loss can significantly improve blood sugar control. So, I swapped my bike tools for determination and hit the road.
2. Pedaling for Health: Every hill climb became a metaphor for overcoming obstacles. As I spun those wheels, I also spun my life in a healthier direction. My A1C resu...

    That's a big weight drop, I bet you feel like a whole different person. I fluctuate about 8 lbs seasonally, and even that makes a big difference. I appreciate you sharing this. I'm roughly your age, and I enjoy hearing other peoples stories like this. Seems we all have some war stories and epiphanies accompanying them. A few years ago, I started eating sardines. If you're not accustomed to them, it' a mental leap to warm up to them, but they are sooo beneficial. Tons of protein and omega 3, and they fill you up and make it super easy to not snack because your hunger is satisfied for so long. I don't mean to be preachy, but they have been a revelation for me. Anyway, thanks for your enjoyable, and pertinent (to me) content.

      Thank you! It is a big drop, more than I expected. I have that seasonal fluctuation in that 8 to 10 pound range too. I am sure that mud seasons and short days will cause me to fluctuate up. However, I picked up a Wahoo Kicker Core off Marketplace that I hope will help that until Fat Biking is here. The biggest change I noticed was the climbs and being so much less winded. Around July 4th, I did a group ride and wasn’t dead last either and my Strava times tell me I am changing. Never thought of the sardines as a super food, I know my father in Law loves them (my wife would not - ha!). I appreciate you watching this and my other videos, and taking the time to comment. Enjoy the ride - tonight I test out my newly adjusted suspension/sag!

    I've got a '13 Chevy Volt with a Rocky Mount's hitch rack plugged into a receiver bolted in behind my license plate. That has the rack and bike pretty high off the ground. It's a solid rack, the bike is secure, but when taking my bike anywhere my Volt's aero approach to life is shot: Gas mileage drops 27%. That almost turns Volt into a muggle car! My next move will be to remove the front wheel, fold down one or two back seats, slide the frame, and rear wheel in sideways, then back fill with our luggage and the front wheel. Not sure there's enough room in the hatch. If not, I'll have to get by with lower mileage. I'll have to see if my frame, 29" rear wheel, and seat lowered with the dropper post, can stand upright in that downward facing dog thing you've got there. I like the idea that there are brackets for holding the fork and frame in place with a through axle. First thing's first, do I have sufficient clearance in the batchback??? Thanks. Great video.

    Love the innovation. I do something similar when I ride with my two sons. Two bikes go on my Thule (2bike flat rack), and the other bike goes in the back on the driver's side. In my case, I use a Yakima thru-bolt adapter that I had on hand, which is bolted to a 24" 2X3. When I need this setup, I put the bike on this "board mount" on the ground and then lower the bike seat. This makes it easy to put this setup into my 4Runner once the rear seat on the driver's side is folded down. Once the bike is rolled in, I make sure the handle bars clear the rear hatch and then loop a bungee cord around the handlebar stem and then attach to the rear D-rings (I use 2 bungees typically). This keeps the bike from dancing around. Next I drape the front tire in an old car wash towel and place the tire between the bike and the driver's side wheel well. I then place another rolled up towel in between to keep it from moving. This has worked well for me for a single bike "in-the-back" carry set up when transporting bikes on Paved Roads. Off road would require more tie-downs. I'll also use this setup sometimes if I'm going solo for more security or if the weather dictates. However you do it - Do It - and ride as much as possible ;>}

    I do it similarly, but I use an old bike-tite that I secure to each side d-rings with some cord. I then attach a strap from the forward d-ring to the fork clamp to hold it in place and pull forward slightly so not to be near the hatch. I do this on the driver's side. And to be real secure if going for an off-roading trip as well I secure the rear wheel by a loop of some strap attached to the folded headrest and a toe clip strap from that loop to the rim. The front wheel I simply place on top of my gear to the side. Keeps things flush to the left side, safe inside for the most part and can stow a week worth of gear as well. One could fit a couple of bikes and some gear this way as well with another fork mount. I use a non-angled fork mount.

      Thank you. You definitely need a custom rack for a Penny Farthing! :-)

    Use to have a Dodge Grand Caravan with stow-n-go. Didn’t have to remove the wheels. Used the interior grab bars for securing the bikes. Sometimes using a car clothes hanging bar if we had more then 2 bikes.

      @@Marc_Plays_Outdoors yeah, kept the bikes safe. We didn’t have to put them in the hotel rooms etc. . It worked great on a trip to RAGBRAI

    I'm surprised you can't just lay the bike on its side with the front wheel in place. I can do this on my Honda FIT with the rear seats folded down.

      I could lay a bike down, but upright allows a second bike plus gear, luggage, snacks, etc, to be carried easily. Plus, easy to load and unload.
