When Churchill (and the Tories) were defeated in 1945, King George VI offered Churchill the title of Duke of Dover, which if he had accepted would have been the first non-royal dukedom granted to someone since 1874. In 1955 when he finally stepped down, Queen Elizabeth offered him the title of the Duke of London, which on top of what was previously said about non-royal dukedoms, is extra special because in the history of the UK/GB/England never once did anyone every got a title over London.

First of all, it's not an anthem but a patriot song (hymn) that its melody was indeed based on Gustav Holst's Jupiter from the Planets.

Winston didn't think he was father of the nation he knew he was and so did the people. From the rich and the aristocracy to the worrking man the people loved and respected him beyond all others and that i bet that fucking terrified Eden, Salisbury and the rest of the politicians. Their envy and fear of churchill was so obvious.
Churchill was probably the best Prime Minister Britain ever had in last 3 centuries, or so. Especially considering brits today are not fond of current PMs.

For his life's work, for preserving the nation and for standing firm in the darkest of times, he deserves eternal gratitude. He has done more for Great Britain than many a crowned head.

Funny thing is Churchill was probably the man that killed the British empire in the east by leaving it completely exposed to the Japanese. This left the east believing Britain's time as a protector had ended and they shifted to an American stance.

I love this scene, Churchhill reminds me of my great grandmother, getting all Loud in church, making Sure everybody around heard the comment about the Duke's family not being there because they were "NAZI's! Prominent Nazi's!" Lol. Old folks gonna be that way. His wife Clemmie trying to hush him up, Lol.
