I have the new pods. When I choose the g7 setting in my controller it says not compatible I’m so confused.
I'm going to try the flonase. I also get irritated skin from taking off the patch. I'm also going to order some unisolve.
I saw a video where someone had different basal rates stored in manual settings and claimed that you can change to manual and give a pre-set basal rate and once there, go back to auto and the unit will resume where you left it, kind of like changing speed with cruise control.
Do you think the carnivore diet would be helpful dor your diabetes?
@@martarico186 for me personally it might make blood sugar management easier but I don’t really eat much meat for a variety of reasons. Have you had success with it?
Im wondering how it is affecting me after 2 years of being carnivore. My a1c is going up to pre diabetes levels but all my other markers are fine. I have lots of energy, feel fine but I'm having some symptoms that come and go like a pre-diabetic. My cpeptide is 1. Insulin is 1.8... I'll ck with my doctor. Thank you!
@@martarico186 there are many schools of thought so I have no general knowledge, however I know some people would point to the over abundance of meat - especially if it’s highly processed and high fat - as causing insulin resistance and therefore raising A1C. I don’t know how accurate or not that actually is, but it’s something to consider
@dougfabrizio2794 yes, I'm checking on my fat to protein ratio. My carnivore is quite clean and pure whole food.
I've just had a total of 14 hours without signal out of the last pod.
@@spgglaswegian where did you have both devices placed? So frustrating
I keep all my log on information in notes on my iPhone. You can take a photo of your info from paper and then send photo to your notes just like sharing a photo with a friend. I’m going to add golooko information & basal rates after looking at your video. Thanks for great share.
I started on the Omnipod three days ago, I am blind in my left eye with a severe cataract in my right eye so I have trouble reading the PDM controller, I am signed up for the test flight program so on Tuesday I will start using the iPhone app and the ability to reverse the colors on the screen and have them inverted will be a great help to me! My understanding is that the iPhone app willcome out pretty soon! I know it’s not a solution for everybody, but it will definitely help me and I’m hoping that further accessibility features will be available through the iPhone and am hopeful that AI features in the future will make it even better
@@lthomas63 thanks for sharing and you gotta let us know how the app is!
Great video! Do you pause insulin delivery during exercise ?
Hi Doug, First, thanks for your channel, I'm new to the O5 as well and it has been very helpful. On this video you mentioned that you have given the O5 more time (you're on your 4th pod) and it started working better. But then you also mentioned you made a few adjustments to your settings like decreasing your carb ratio, target glucose range (110-110), changing your duration of insulin action and your correction factor. When did you make these changes? Did you reset after each pod change to make the changes? Did you make all the changes after resetting and now you're in the fourth pod after the changes? I'm asking because I don't know how to make these changes in auto mode unless I reset, so I'm a bit confused. Thanks.
Hi - I did not reset after making each one of those changes. You can adjust goal range, correction factors, ratios, and insulin duration action all while still in automatic mode.
This conversation was so helpful. I also use activity to help insulin along. I’m in Australia and on Dash Pods. We should have access to Omnipod 5 very soon. Thankyou great information
I have restarted a G6 for an additional sensor session and it can work. However stating that the 4 digit code "really doesn't matter", I don't believe to be true at all. The factory calibrates each senor and assigns it that code. Sensors from the same lot number can and do have different numbers so I believe it does matter. Also stating "indefinitely" would be incorrect. I've heard, not experienced, restarting the sensor for two additional sessions and then things start getting a little wonky. FYI
@@dwightl5863 that’s what I said - you can keep restarting it, but eventually your skin and the inflammation it caused wouldn’t work so well. And you can use any valid sensor code, I’ve tried it
I have had a few people reach out to me saying that this was helpful, which is amazing to hear! Would anyone else like to try the same thing in the hopes that it would help them and also provide useful info for the audience?
Very helpful! This is what all i do except the exercise part. But i just dont feel good everywhere around 100 -150 mg/dl stuck at 200 bg
Thank you for sharing. It's always interesting to hear other people's tips. The only thing I would add is that in my experience, Omnipod 5 is super good at avoiding lows on its own. If I go low, it's always because I've overcorrected a high or overestimated carbs for a meal. I actually struggle with how long it takes to come down from a high with Omnipod 5. My range is fairly tight (110-180) & I'm in range 95% of the time. Like Doug, I don't like seeing that high number. I tend to overreact. So I will try to take it easy on the correction & take a walk or do some exercise when possible. Maybe that will help.
I am mdi I have been for 12 years.I want to try a pump.Which one is best for just starting on a pump?Thank you
That's personal preference. Here is a great video comparing all of the major pumps: ruclips.net/video/SR0E5A6i_ss/видео.htmlsi=u1avpuPG3G-Arjsk
I am completely blind and use my current insulin pump the same as someone else mentioned here. Through beeps and vibrations. I see that the Omni pod display app is usable with VoiceOver on one of their own official videos. My fingers are crossed for the control app. I know there is a limited release. Just wondering if there’s any updates as I’m not in the USA.
This is an awesome idea. Really shows how much you care about the community 😄. I just sent you a message to your email.
@@stefanos2115 thank you Stefano! I just emailed you back.
Sounds like a great idea
Thanks! Is there something with your management that you'd like to discuss? You could be the first one if you'd like.
That endo should be ashamed of themselves! A person your age and fit doesn't turn into such an uncontrolled type 2 just like that, it takes years of gradually getting there! In fact, that's true for obese patients too!
@@grumpyinbrooklyn6347 I agree and thanks for the comment! I am hoping that as this happens to more and more people that doctors start to think outside their traditional box, and that patients have more stories of it happening to others which can then lead to better questions
My daughter has been sitting at 140-150 when her target glucose is 110. How can I bring her down to 90-100 at night?
The things I would suggest looking into are her correction factor, it may not be strong enough during those overnight hours. And as you increase the total daily insulin the system will get more aggressive overall.
Here in France we have capteur protect, it works well but it is expensive !
can you share a link to what you're talking about?
You didn’t have to push air in. I usually just stick the needle in and pull. When you push air it wastes too much insulin by squirting it out the cannula. Thank for the video though because some people wouldn’t think about that.
What a great point that you for bringing it up. I totally push it in out of habit and I’m wasting insulin!! I’ll see if I can figure out how to annotate the video to add a note about it in that section. Thanks again I hope everyone sees this
Great tip! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Doug. I’ve used Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film Spray, Medvance silicone adhesive tape (cut to size), Skin Tac with applicator, and an Allergy Nasal spray. All have helped with skin reactions I’ve experienced with the G6. Especially when used in combination. My current setup is Cavilon on the skin where the G6 will be placed, let dry. Then Skin Tac, let dry. Then the pre-assembled sensor with the silicone tape covering the sticky pad of the G6. A paper hole punch easily makes a hole in the center of the silicone tape for the sensor filament. It’s extra work for the G6 application but worth it. I can get through 10 days of G6 usage without the skin reactions, discomfort and pain. Hope it helps. 😊
@@richardlacabe7488 what incredibly helpful info, thank you. I’m going to check out all of your recommendations and I hope everyone sees this comment and does the same. Thanks again!
Hi Doug, thank you for sharing. I am on Omnipod 5 and seeing all these details and get your thoughts about it is very helpful. I just noticed one thing: during your workout, your basal is still running with a 110 mg/dl target. This might have exacerbated the crash. For workouts, I temporarily increase the target or even use the activity mode feature. But other than that I am fully with you. Sharing these details is really inspiring for me
Thank you for sharing this! You're absolutely right and that is a great point - I use automated mode, and I am in a habit of not going into "activity mode" during exercise because I found that I was going higher than I would like. This is a great reminder that it's not always mandatory to be so aggressive, so I am genuinely going to consider this next time. Thank you again and I'm glad it was helpful for you to see this as well!
@@dougfabrizio2794 Maybe try 140 as target, but without activity mode. Switch it on 1 hour before the exercise until 1 hour afterwards. Therefore, you will still get almost normal basal delivery, you will not get too high and also not too low, as the system will cut off basal when it predicts that you are going below 140. This might give you a little bit more room during exercise and hopefully you don't need to beef the sugars up so high before that. I do a 2 hour badminton training with this approach and sometimes I need a little bit of juice in between, but nothing dramatic. Activity mode, on the other hand, is not only raising the target to 150, but also reducing your normal basal rate - which is sometimes not enough insulin.
My story is the same misdiagnosed as type2 for 7 years
Very poor sound!
hi doug, i recently subscribed to your channel when my 3 year old granddaughter went into diabetic ketoacidosis from newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes.... one topic that you might discuss is to have your viewers get a lipoprotein (a) blood test from their doctor.... this is different than the usual cholesterol tests ... most doctors do not check routinely for lipoprotein (a) .... lipoprotein (a) is high in one of five americans.... there are not a lot of great treatments for this yet but pelacarsen and olpasiran might be out in a couple of years... my wife is on a pcsk9 inhibitor since she had a very high level (over 300) of lipoprotein (a)....the pcsk9 inhibitor is not fda approved for this but it did lower the lipoprotein (a) from 300 to 100... here is a link to a youtube video by steve nissen on lipoprotein (a)... ruclips.net/video/yLguuMHs0_U/видео.html it is probably also a good idea to get on a statin and get your LDL level below 50 to decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease... steven vig retired internist
There's a ton more nuance than just what I talk about here, but hopefully this is a helpful starting point. Always talk to your doctor / diabetes educator about it before making any changes, and also realize that your starting blood sugar plays a big part in how long (or short) of a pre-bolus you may need.
As a 59 year plus type 1 diabetic, I have a lot of scar tissue. The pod does not always work correctly on some injection sites. Therefore, when will Omni pod come out with a pod with an angeled cannula that will inject insulin between scar tissue layers? I understand the tandem Mobi currently has this technology..
Thanks for sharing Doug, form me it’s a struggle and challenging. I am motivated watching it, gives me encouragement. Thanks again….
Like I say in the video - if you're interested in brainstorming it together via a video chat let me know!

Hi Doug. I have type 2 diabetes for 10+ years. I'm losing weight. Can type 2 diabetes "cause" you to "lose weight"? Or is it possible that I might be "misdiagnosed" as type 2 diabetes? Thanks.
Hi! It's hard to say for sure, but I definitely recommend asking your doctor for a c-peptide and antibody test to rule out a Type 1 diagnosis.
What is the number range do I have to look for the C-Peptide & antibody test? And what is the number range that will show that you have Type 1 diabetes?
@@Melanie-gu4clthere are a few different standards for c-peptide test, but generally a fasting c-peptide of less than .6 will likely indicate type 1. For antibodies, if you test positive for one of the 5 antibodies they test for, then that's likely a positive as well, but confirm all of this with your doc.
Ok, thanks.
Doug, do you know the average cost of the C-Peptide & Antibody tests? Thanks.

Congrats on firefighting… I am a type 1 career firefighter. I have been a type 1 for 20 years and a professional firefighter now for 9 years. I have been surprised finding other type 1 career firefighters as well. I recently switched from t slim to op5 and that’s how I found some of your content. I have really been liking op5 and it’s been working great for me and love the tubeless aspect.
This is amazing thanks for sharing. Do you have any specific tips or recommendations with regard to firefighting? Have you had any issues with the fact that the OP5 is always on your body during a fire? I have heard that most T1 Firefighters use tubed pumps because they can be removed when actually going into a building. I'm glad you're having success with the OP5 in general and thanks again
@@dougfabrizio2794 obviously everyone is different, but for me what works is when I’m on shift I watch what I eat a little more so I don’t have a bunch of insulin on board. I also set a higher target as well. I don’t have any issues with having pod on me during fires. Turnout gear gives enough protection. Even when I was on tubed pumps I always had in my pocket and turnouts over and have never had issues. If you have something melting under your turnouts you have a lot bigger issues. Only time in past I’d take pump off was for water rescue calls or training but now with op5 I dnt have to. There’s actually another guy with a diabetes tech RUclips page that wears omnipod as well that’s a career firefighter / paramedic as well. I have connected with quite a few type 1 firefighters which is awesome! When I first got hired on I thought i did the impossible but to my surprise type 1 firefighters do exist!
Do you do help others optimise their Omnipod 5 ?
Not in any official capacity but I'm happy to help with any questions
I need help optimising my Omnipod 5 system
Can you do a video on how you manage to get 98% in range for 26 days? What do you eat and how many carbs per day. I am on Omnipod 5 as well but getting abour 70-80% in range. I want to improve.
i'd be happy to! I will work on that today / tomorrow. And FYI I eat around 300 carbs per day - it works for me but I am also very active. I can step through each meal in a video. What aspect of staying in range are you having the hardest time with? Is it a post meal spike?
What is your time in range on OM5? What are your pump settings?
What is you settings for Omnipod 5? Please share
What is your TIR using the omnipod 5? How many carbs per meal ?
Would be using the iPhone app when it comes out in 2024 or you think it’s better to use PDM?
Thanks for the video! Gotta say, I would not be happy with those graphs. I know you're just showing some "bad" events, but it also seems to have a few instances where it lets you creep up to 180mgdl/10mmol. I get far better results on MDI. Would be interesting to see a "good" day
What do you do for little micro adjustments throughout the day? In other words, are you giving yourself a ton of shots each day? I'm happy overall with my management at this point, but there are definitely times that I'd so much prefer to have nothing attached to me like I could do with MDI.
Hi Doug, If your basal rates are not set accurately will Omnipod 5 automatically setup correct basal ?
Hi - it may take a few pods, and the basal rate is handled differently than it is via injections, but in my experience it will fairly quickly learn what your needs for basal insulin are.
How long did it take for the algorithm to learn you?? My daughter is on this and after four weeks it’s horrific and she is running high all the timw
I think it took about a month for me as well. I know this comment is a little old now - but how have things been going for your daughter? My current understanding is that "total daily insulin" is where it's at in terms of aggressive management. The more insulin it sees her need each day, the better it should be at helping to ensure that.
When the Omnipod is an auto mode overnight, how do you feel it handles the dawn phenomenon?
Thank you so much for this information! My husband is new to the Omnipod 5 and we weren't quite clear how to address a high.
I had a similar lived experience. Initally I was given oral medications to treat type 2, as it was thought by my doctor at the time, I got even sicker and ended up in a hospital for some time. They did all sort of tests and subsequently, I was diagonised with type 1 - the thing was that my c peptide and antiboy results were within the normal ranges - strange right ?? I was told there is a subtype called auto-antibody negative type , which is quite rare and not a lot of info available on the Internet. Cheers mate :)
Have you had dawn phenomenon? Does the omniPod handle it well?
Yes I have - I still see a slight spike in the morning, but I do feel that OP handles it well. You can also adjust your correction factor to account for it as well - that would probably be ideal if it happens generally about the same time each day.
