Review Godox TT685ii vs Godox V1 - Watch this before you buy!
Not sure whether to get the Godox TT685ii or the Godox V1? Watch this review before you buy to see which speedlight is right for you!
When comparing the Godox TT685 ii (Sony version in this video) with the Godox V1, I am coming to the conclusion that you should decide for the TT685ii since it is basically the same flash and with a round-head adapter it is nearly identical for half the price. The light pattern does not make a difference and the recycle times are the same at my preferred maximum configuration since I am always trying to not go beyond 1/4.

Finally, someone who gives an answer other than "it depends". Thanks.
Thanks for the summary!
Love this guy!
What’s the TCM button?
Does this same issue also apply to the zoom f3 and f6?
How's the battery life of the X2T? Are you using a pair of 3000mah 1.5V battery? I'm wondering if the battery life last for months or days? If it lasts for months than I wouldn't need to buy spare batteries for this trigger.
Thank you very much; your effort in putting this video together is appreciated.
iPad 9 it’s noticeable seemingly the 24 fps at the 5-12 seconds, if you wear 2.75 reader glasses it’s noticeable to 20 seconds. On my Sony 40 inch 60hz tv all 24 fps is noticeable except the last slowest pan. The 30, 60 aren’t noticeable at all on iPad the 5 seconds at 30 fps was barely noticeable on the TV. Beyond that it’s unnoticeable
I am using a V860 III and TT658 II as backup. Never saw the need for a round head hotshoe flash, I do have the round head adapter too which came in useful occasionally. I use the AD200 Pro and 600 Pro when I do off camera. Oh ya, I love the flat-head flashes since I can potentially pack 2 in place of one round head flash. All in all, the flat ones are more practical and cheaper.. and yea, the V1 Pro is just a cash grab bring so darn expensive.
same with me, when it came out the the TT685 Mark I did not have the TCM switch which I really like for events.
So 1 year later, whats your solution? 😋
I just got 2 Deity PR-2 😀
Thx.,👍
Legend! I need to give this a go to see if it's fixes my issue
Hi, what is the difference between the Godox TT685ii and the v860 III?
I think mostly the battery but I have not checked that
Hi i have the sony a7c and the cable tetherpro usb-c to usb-c 15' this version is the 3.1? i have used capture one and ligtroom and it has been complicated i can not work with the auxiliooo heeeelp me please
What exactly is happening?
The image I see in the camera is not at all what I see in lightroom. I changed to capture 1 and it looks a little better but the images do not load immediately so I set the program right. I have all the color profiles set to standard in the camera.
I have the orange cable
hm, that's weird. Concerning lightroom it can take a while but with COP they should transer in about 1-2 seconds. This only happens when tethering or is there also a mismatch when you import these images from the SD-Card?
Haha! You sound just like this guy. ruclips.net/video/1YCOT5LasKc/видео.htmlsi=ReIYnnO7fzneyAEq
Looking forward for your video about light setup recommendations .
Is possible use Ultrasync slate app jam sync the ultrasync blue to current time, then both tc-1 and ultrasync blue have the same time?
Not sure if I got that. The slate app just reads and displays the tc of the ultrasync blue
The App naming issue is just a software bug that can be easily fixed by any developer. Also, each time you try to select a recorder, the order of devices changes randomly, so you end up selecting the same recorder. I had to start recording 3 F2-BT at the same time and lost precious time on a wedding event. I have also contacted ZOOM for the same with no luck or interest to support. I end up build my own Android App that can handle multiple F2-BTs with proper names and aliases if i need to. But the timecode option is missing to me too.
If you are using multiple lights... With the X2T you cannot have only one light with the modelling light on. As soon as you fire the trigger, ALL the modelling lights will reset to whatever the X2T is set to. You cannot control them independently. With the xPro with the modelling lights switched 'off' on the trigger, you can manually turn on the modelling light of ONE (or more) flash head on the light itself and the xPro will not override that setting and switch it off again when you fire the trigger. Reset to controlling all the modelling lights in sync, simply change the setting on the trigger to off then on again. Probably not a big deal to most, but it confused me for a while until I figured it out!!
Gonna try eneloop again. Duracell was struggling AF even at 1/4-8 power.
I recently tested these “charge with usb cable” batteries: recycle time like 10 seconds or more
That was aweful!@@ego-shooters
Great video, lots of info and very clear.
Thx!🙏
I am going next week to Odda, I will follow on your steps , thank you for a lovely video
Great! Let me know how you like odda
Hey Metal, thanks ❤❤❤❤
Excellent! 🤩
You are insanely talented at teaching!!!
Thx! I like to try getting to the point 😁
Great work ❤❤❤
Cable length is 2m because a longer cable will result in loss of pulse power. )))
Maybe but I want 5 meters 😁
Ok sir I buy now
👍👍👍
👍
Thank you!
You're welcome!
On my x2T I can change power of flash but it’s not coming back on my godox 600 the power stays the same
Are the channel and group and ID settings correct?
The x2T S do I need to fire off on trigger for the strobe to set in the settings
@@joeybailey9628 usually not, as soon as you move the wheel on the trigger the values on the strobe should move too but sometimes this hangs and it is a good idea to do a test-fire by the trigger.
This helps me choose the X2 thank you
Happy to have helped
Can I put a deity tc1 on a cell phone to have the timecode?
It depends if there is a video app available which supports that, currently I am not aware of any. I hope that black magic will do in the future.
I use the TT685ii along with the Godox PB960, I don't even know how many flashes I get out of it. Using it for Macro photography I'm only shooting at 1/64 power output on the Sony A1 - 10frames per second for focus stacking. If I recall I think the PB960 Power pack allows you 2000 full power flashes from one charge so doing the math I dare say I can get around 16000 flashes before needing to charge the powerpack up again. Using the Y cable too you can bring the recycle time right down, I would definitely recommend the powerpack if you need long use of your flash. The alternative in my opinion is to go for the V860iii with the rechargeable battery, great recycle times, 480 claimed full power shots and a lighter setup to carrying a powerpack around with you. My conclusion is to stick with the powerpack and TT685ii for my useage, while it means carrying a lot around, I can fire bursts off all day without the need to swap out batteries.
The SR1 fits any flash from any brand Godox, Canon, Nikon, even the AD200 (speedlight head). It makes things much easier for doing things like adding gels to the front of a flash. Set up a couple of different colored gels in the AK-R1 filter holders and you can just swap them out fast because they are magnetic.
I went to the camera store last year looking at the AD100. The salesmen pointed out that for a just a bit more, I could bump up to the AD200 (not even the pro) and get a lot more quality. So, I went with the AD200Pro along with a 450Pro. I definitely want another AD200Pro for outdoor work.
Best choice
Thank you helped me decide on future workflow.
Great to hear!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I have a TT685 II. Yes, it is slower. I used alkaline batteries, and it was about 2x slower than your video, or same amount of time slower when comparing your video at 1/2 and full power. But I still have my old AD360, which has a power pack BP960. This can be plugged into the front of the TT685ii (the newest version of V1 also has this port). At 1/2 and full power it is twice as fast as your V1 in your video. If I were using nickle metal hydride batteries, it may be even faster but I will never know because I will not be buying them. The only reason I would need to use the BP960 is if I am doing macro focus stacking with flash 12 to 24 frames, and I want less ambient light in the image and have to turn up the power above 1/32 power, which is rare unless you are shooting at noon time maybe. But that I have the extra speed if I need it is great. Otherwise TT685 II all the way baby. And I already had the round head adapter and AK-R1 accessories which I bought for my AD200.
thx, great input. I recently bought some of the Li-Ion batteries that got an own built-in USB-C port for charging. I thought that, since they got 1.5V like the alkaline batteries, they would be brilliant for my TT685ii but boy are they bad for quick power feeds like they are needed for flashes. They needed, I am not kidding, nearly 7 seconds from switching the flash on to being able to fire the first flash. Completely unusable. I did not know the BP960 stuff, thx for that.
You can use any Canon or compatable power pack/booster, the cord end will be the same for Godox TT685 ii. You will need to buy and additional cable for the BP960 as it is for the AD360 The canon pack is expensive. The BP920 is 120usd but there are some knock off brands that are half. The cheapest one uses 8 batteries, and is 40 usd on amazon but probably not for a professional.
Thanks for doing all of this and also go above and beyond by supplying separate videos to ensure the framerate stays intact. I've been encountering this after a travel trip and realized that even though 30fps with 180 degree shutter angle looks OK for static shots, when I am traveling panning everywhere, the motion blur prevents you from seeing any detail at all. Couple that with modern LCD displays lacking motion clarity compared to CRT but I don't have a CRT to confirm, maybe black frame insertion displays could help. If I was shooting a planned video or movie, sure I got the time to slowly pan or test out pans but during travels it's run and gun. Been contemplating shooting 60fps next time and I agree with you, chasing the cinematic look drives me nuts. Grading everything blue or yellow, underexposing, wide aspect ratios and grain to name a few.
good summary :-) "cinematic" is more than fps, right? If you are using Davinci Resolve: Have you ever tried the adding motion blur functionality? It is in the same tab as noise reduction.
Very Good Review. Thank you.
Thy, I am happy to help.
very interesting study - thank you! Viewed on my laptop with 59.95 refresh rate. The 60fps looked smoothest.
Thank you. I also noticed that the 30fps are still not completely smooth despite the fact that by the math it should simply be "hold one image for 2 frames".
I had two - they both melted with black carbon buildup beneath the plastic lens, on the plastics that surround the bulb, and some actual melting of the fresnel plastic. Was very disappointed, especially after owned several Godox speed lights, 200s, a 600 and 300. Thinking back now, especially with the V1 in their product line, I don't know why they green lit this project.
Jepp, good summary
ISO 200, SS 1/200 F8 on 24MP APS-C are Two ad100 on stand with white umbrella enough for reception, group photo.
I did a measurement right now using the AD100 in a Godox Umbrealla UB-105S with diffusion cloth in front of it. With your settings and the AD100 at full power I got just f6.3. This was just one flash and not two. From my experience these flashes are not really powerful enough and I also burned one when shooting at full power for 15 minutes. From my perspective I would go for the AD200s.
Hi, Great video. I have a specific use case and was wondering what you would recommend. I shoot a lot of badly lit runway shows that have me at very high ISO as I can't compromise on the shutter speed. I shoot using a 70-200mm would you recommend the TT685ii for this still? (I've never used flash before) Thanks, Jack
Hi Jack, could you explain to me what a runway shoot is? Do you mean runways like fashion shows?
@@ego-shooters hi, sorry yes.
Ok, so I think it does not make a difference in case speedlights in general are powerful enough for your use case. When it comes to the V1 and TT685ii both are at around 75WS of power, recycle times (just tested again) with completely full batteries are the same up to 1/2, after firing some good amount of flashes the difference is in 1/2 and 1/1 with the V1 reycling a bit faster but these recycle times you cannot use for runway shoots since it slows you down a lot so not difference here. Both flashes zoom the flash so you can set it to auto and it will talk to you camera and use the zoom setting your lens is at or you can set it manually. Flash pattern does not matter, tcm button they have both which is nice for test shots at that distance and then you simply go to manual mode in the flash again. If you need to set your shutter speeds higher than the sync speed and then the flash needs to shoot in HSS I think both flashes are not a good idea because they overheat after several shots and then go into a pause mode.
Thank you for this - I think I’ll go for the X2
you are welcome! happy I could help.
Hahaha short and sweet and to the point!! 😂
I kept it "short" :-) there is also a long-form on my channel, fyi
Hi! I am debating between V860iii, V1 pro and TT685ii, may I ask which you’d pick? Thank you!
I am currently into the TT685ii because they are basically all the same flashes. The AAs do not make a difference to the Li-ion batteries, the round head is obsolete when using the round adapter S-R1. The additional mini-flash light I never tested but I actually never needed one. With speedlights I try to go for the most budget friendly ones because you drop them easier than studio lights.
Great video I need to make a decision AD 200 Pro or AD 300 Pro ? 🤔
Concerning the AD200Pro I really needed to get my emotions out because it is such an ugly flash compared to all the other Godox ones like the AD300Pro, AD400Pro, AD600Pro etc. I had two AD200 first and then 4 years later I needed to decide what to go for since I decided to get 2 more flashes. I went for the AD200Pro for these reasons: 1. Interchangeable heads so very versatile, same light quality (meaning I got 2 AD200 and with 2 more the light will be the same) and I had a case already in which I could get all 4 of them. Concerning power output the 100 WS between the AD200 and AD300 is not important. Emotionally I wanted the AD300, because it looks much better (funny reason, I know). I hope this helps. I got 4 AD200s not with 2 round heads in total in addition plus one AD600Pro. These are the flashes I do all my current work with, 90% of all with the AD200s only.
@@ego-shooters thank you for your very quick reply strangely enough I’m not concerned about to look I kind of like the look of the A.D. 200 Pro. I want to save some money to buy accessories. What do you suggest? I will be using the strobe as a one light set up to shoot on location what would be the best modifier to get the fold up? Beauty dish? or should I go for one of the small parabolic modifies?
I currently like the smallrig ones because they got a good system to assembling them plus a good bag that comes with them. I got the 55cm and the 85cm deep octa. When you are looking into some more edgy portraits also shooting with some striplights is an option, but this is a bit more niche. If you like it more dramatic then a beauty dish is perfect, I love those but I do not know a good foldable one.
@@ego-shooters thank you very much for your valuable input in helping me make a decision I Shall carry on doing a bit of research on the modifiers and see what the sellers have however, I have made up my mind and will be purchasing the AD 200 pro once again thank you and take care regards Marius Henning from South Africa👍🏻
You are welcome, it's been a while I was in SA. Your name is "Henning"? That's my firstname:-)
