Some 40 years ago, I was introduced to Cornelissen as I had been awarded my first commission as a gilder. Aside from the fact that I had never picked up a mop or leaf, I had in my staff a man approaching retirement who noted that unless the preparation was correctly prepared, the outcome would be hopeless. There were two suppliers, Cornelissen for ALL the foundation and finishing work and Stuart Stevenson for leaf. I knew nothing of gilding, took advice from the staff in the shop and placed my first order for rabbit skin glue and whiting. Over the next 3 years, I placed orders in increasing amounts until the work dried up over a 5 year span. Sadly, despite my best efforts to value and price my enterprise, my business at best only broke even and I resigned myself to the inevitable and closed it down as gracefully as I could. Cornelissen provided employment to my 10 staff for a full 3 years with the bonus of giving me an education that has enabled me today to re-polish a couple of pieces of furniture with some shellac flakes that I discovered in the cellars - I last went in here 20 years ago!
Mr Branson needs to look at some of the reviews on here to see just how rubbish his product actually is.
