    Now that we have climate deniers in the white house and 39% of fundamental-case Christians think their sky daddy will save us, all the while they push their agenda of hate, intolerance, anti environmental, anti women, homophobic, anti decency based on their extremely warped view of life, so pathetic.

    I have a 7 year test project going in Urban Vancouver BC to raise sustainable citrus using small footprint geothermal and solar year round with compost heat. The build can be done for less than $1000. and compliment an apartment or community common area. This enables greens year round as well and citrus annually. I have also propagated coffee plants and citrus trees. It can be done.

    @old 7:01 scientist: What if it’s not just temperature, but the temperature to sustain “our” infrastructure? It seems the very stuff of life I rely on was built and is dependent on an economy of labor, engineered and financed to “win the 2nd World War” (for instance nuclear, air travel, communications- the prescient internet) for the times they were built . I have read there are 444 nuclear reactors. They require electricity, water, communication to be sustainable. Not instability like the war in Ukraine, or earthquakes in Japan. So much if not everything running today on the internet requires upkeep that the laborers of today (like me) refuse to do. Infrastructure I depend on was foolishly “given” to me with so much promise. Those promises are not being kept on a global scale. All the past citations you focus on did not exist in a civil engineering world “to make all humanity better” at the expense of many to benefit the few. The predicament has been ongoing since well before my birth (1954). I come from a family of engineers. The engineering miracles brought me water, fossil fuel dependent massive agriculture, trains, ships, roads, airplanes, communication with you and Andrew Boyd. Did you read the book yet? Try this, if not. flowchart.bettercatastrophe.com/

    Hey Dan, so I bought the book because of the picture of the greenhouse on the front of the book. It looks like a low cost greenhouse. But there is no reference of any kind to that greenhouse on the front of your book. Why? Why would you do something like that. I feel like I was lied to and cheated. Am I missing something here, if so please enlighten me. I mean look at the greenhouse in back of you, that doesn’t look like a low cost greenhouse.

    A 60⁰ roof would give you a zero angle of incidence at the winter solstice where you are. But the graph showed you didn't need that. You can be off by 45-60 degrees and still get almost the same amount of sunlight in your greenhouse in the winter. A 60⁰ roof would cut down on sunlight in the summer, but what an environmentally unfriendly way of achieving that. A roof that steep means a very tall greenhouse which means much more building materials. There are better ways to reduce sunlight in the summer than having such a steep roof. At 30⁰ you picked a great roof slope.

      The earth was also flat once upon a time look at how much we know now. I don't believe in a magical skydaddy watching over all of us whether we've been good or bad either. Santa Claus isn't real but God is 😂😂😂

    • @OldScientist
      @OldScientist Год назад

      @britndayz It was warmer during the Medieval (Elbert, 2013, 2.9°C above present), Roman (Margaritelli, 2020), 2°C above present, also Wang et al, 2013, showing the change was at least hemispheric, and Minoan Warm Periods (Lécuyer, 2018, 4°C above present, links Mediterranean to Greenland Ice so at least hemispheric). It was certainly warmer during the Holocene Climatic Optimum, so during our current interglacial. If you want a citation, try Quaternary Research Volume 53, Issue 3, May 2000, Pages 302-311. This makes the point that it was upto 7°C warmer on the shores of the Arctic during that time, with trees growing on the shores of the ocean (which would have been ice free in the summer), far to the north of the current treeline. The northern coast of Greenland was, during parts of the Pleistocene, warmer by double figures than today. The summer and winter average minimum temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees C, respectively, were more than 10 degrees C warmer than present day. I think it was a maximum of 19 °C warmer than today. Remarkable. Maybe it was those pesky Neanderthals driving around in their SUVs. That one's been all over the news but if you want a citation I think it was in the 7th December 2022 issue of Nature. The original research was done by some Danish chappy. If you want some really rapid warming look at the CET (Central England Temperature) Instrumental Record between 1690 and 1730 (3°C increase). That might not be reliable enough for you though. Why not try the Dansgaard-Oeschger events? The Dansgaard-Oeschger events were global (Dima et al, 2018).About 11,500 years ago, averaged annual temperatures on the Greenland ice sheet increased by around 8 °C over 40 years, in three steps of five years, but a 5 °C change over 30-40 years is more common for these events. Some researchers believe the Medieval Warm Period was one of these, but I'm not convinced. However, I can provide upwards of 100 citations of science papers that together show the Medieval Warm Period was qualitatively and quantitatively warmer than the current warming, and that it was global in nature, focused around the year 1000. The current warming began around 1700 prior to any large scale combustion of fossil fuels. Also the warming has been small (1°C) and appears to have been largely beneficial. It has not been smooth, for example there was a period of cooling during the 50s, 60s and 70s (NOAA). When many scientists believed the next ice age had begun. Current warming is smaller than predicted by all models (actual is 0.13°C per decade since 1979, UAH v6) so around ½°C for the past 40 years but no overall warming over the past 8. This will result in a further 1° of warming by 2100 which can be adapted to, as with the previous 1°.

    Hi Steve, thanks for writing the book. Quick question on p. 97. Irradiance is derived from 10Be and 14C which should increase with increase in number of sunspots but the text says that "The sun's magnetic field, which increases in intensity with the number of sunspots, deflects cosmic radiation away from the earth , and so variations in the concentrations of 10Be and 14C on earth are proportional to the number of sunspots." I thought these isotopes would increase with increase in incident cosmic rays, but if the rays are deflected away from the earth, how do they increase? Do the isotopes increase with decreasing cosmic ray incidence? Many thanks, Cheers from Australia.

I have been gardening for about 10 years and all the “rules” confuse me. I found you on you tube last year and started all my seeds using your baggies method. That was a game changer for me. Today I got an email from New Society about your new book and when I watched this video I realized that you were already someone I followed and respected. I never realized that you were the author of the soil science book. Anyway, congratulations on your new book. Thanks for all the guidance, I’m truly looking forward to receiving your new book and watching more of your videos. Nola
