"The song 'Love Like Winter' was such a mess of a song. It was like, the demo was so strong, and the studio recording just wasn't there yet, something was missing. So we tried having different people program things, and we just threw everything at it and it wasn't coming together, and I didn't know what to put on bass because the whole thing seemed like it was gonna just fall apart." "I still hadn't put a bass line on it until the morning of the mix. We took it in to mix and it wasn't ready yet, and Luke [Wood, A&R] asked me if I would go home [the night before] and, on my home system, record a bass line to bring in." "This was during the time when I moved to L.A. essentially. So I was staying in my friend's guest room and all I had was like, a little Pro Tools MBox, and a laptop, and I was like, 'What am I supposed to do? I have no idea'. Like, I was kinda at the point where I was giving up on the song, because I just didn't see how it was going to shape up. And so I recorded 3 bass lines, that night. One of them that was super boring, straight. Like, just the most, simplest, 'play-the-notes-the-guitar-is-playing', 'lock-in with-the-drums', no frills, nothing. And then I played a third one that I thought... okay, my logic was, I'm going to write one that's so boring that everybody will think it's too boring. Then I'm gonna write one that is, like, a joke, which is the third one i did, which was like, I did kind of like, disco-octave-type movement through the whole thing. I thought, That one's a joke, and so people can't be in with the joke one, and they're gonna say the boring one's too boring, so they'll have to get into this sorta like, James Jamerson-style one, which was the one I liked the most." "So we met before the mixing session, and I had Jade listen to the bass lines, and he made some notes on it. He's like, 'So I like what you're doing, but here, I made a mix of the three.' And he basically cut between the three different ones, kinda crudely, and I went in and, like, fine-tuned it, and then changed the volume on one so that it matched. But then I sorta comped that together and handed it over to Chris Lord-Alge. And he was like, 'Oh man, this sounds great! What did you use to record this?'" I love The Cure, Boris Williams is very good, especially in A Night Like This and Now's The Time, but to me Fascination Street seems heavily copied from Malcom McLaren's Bufalo Gals, you can listen to it and see that it is clear.

This is actually the multitracks of the vocals ? How did you get this? Crazy how it sounds auto tuned … maybe it was done to these files after the fact or my mind is playing tricks. Good old soundcraft 2400.

Don’t think this was double tracked but my guess is there was a signal going to his SVT which is the treble/ overdriven part that you hear and the other going to the board which is the low end you hear underneath. Anyways, one of my favorite bass line and it’s really the highlight of the song. Loved playing this to warm up my picking hand before a gig.

You can really hear the 50s rock n roll guitar style influence in this song.

Back in the day, one could literally hear this song pushing up through previous boundaries to bring a new level of complexity and beauty never before heard.at that time.. Like someone else here said, it "raised the bar" for all music of its day. I could literally experience that bar raising the first time I heard this song, which was on its first day of release in London.

So basically Doyle plays power chords and downstrokes while Bobby plays barred chords and a normal, but fast, up and down strumming

I've heard a couple of uploads with the same sound. It's sound like midi, hard to believe it's the original drums, too boring and mechanic
