Extreme floof alert. Perched at the top of Brooks falls, beautiful brown bear mom 273 and her male (larger) and female (smaller) yearling cubs are keeping a vigilant eye on the water below, hoping for a sockeye salmon to leap their way.

Due to high water and some fallen trees at Brooks Falls, there have been a few water currents that can pick up a 800 lb bear and send them floating down river. In this encounter, bear 912 sees 89 approaching him and seems to decide to deliberately take the express waterslide route out of the "conveyor belt" area of the Falls.

I don't know what was happening with Jolly's (newly emancipated subadult, daughter of 435 Holly) salmon dinner, but she seemed to be having time trying to keep hold of it! Cute, watching Otis trying to slurp up that dangly piece of fish skin, like it was a spaghetti string. They do look exactly alike.
I just started watching in July so I've not seen Otis, just videos shared and this video in particular is extremely touching to me. What a gentle, strong bear. ❤
Anyone who thinks they could fight off a bear should watch one eat a live, fighting fish like it’s a sub.

Grazer is the best Katmai bear. The best mom. The best fish catcher. She is teaching them how to Grazer. Even the biggest and baddest bears know what being Grazer’d means. They don’t want any part of that but she’s so wonderful all the big guys want to be her lover.

It was torture watching for a full five minutes before the little guy got a fish. 😰 He had to work hard for his supper. Otis is a great coach - the perfect balance of stern and supportive.

He disappeared pretty fast after he made a big mistake trying to take 503's fish. 503 gave him a fright. Within 5 years 503 will be the most dominant bear. Maybe taking over after his dad.
Most bears at the falls would never let another bear this close to them but Otis he just wants to get along and catch fish.
