Rochdale Parish Church, St Chads UK, with The Cemetery Lady
There has been a church on the hill overlooking Rochdale Town Centre for well over 1,000 years. Parts of the present church tower have been dated to Saxon times. The town stocks, which date back to 1688, can be found in the grounds, while the grave of the Lancashire dialect poet Tim Bobbin (John Collier of Milnrow) lies in the churchyard.
If you look closely at the weathered old stones forming the flagged pathway, you will discover they originate from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The churchyard of St. Wilfrid’s, Standish was such a pleasant surprise. I knew I was in for a treat with the market cross and medieval stocks just outside the grounds, but I wasn’t prepared for the wealth of 18th-century gravestones within! To my delight, I even discovered, not one but two, dating back to the 17th century-a true gem amidst the history.
