CQ isn't done with an instructor in the backseat. The first time you go to the boat, it's all you. I did this a decade ago, but it was tradition and I don't think they've changed it.

Didn't the USN stop teaching Aviators how to land on carriers ~2021, due to the development and adoption of PLS and Magic Carpet? And didn't the P-8 pipeline not bother with initial carrier quals?

Why does the pilot keep the canopy open for so long before take off....He had it open all the way to the point he was starting down the runway. Maybe the airconditioning doesn't work well in those older planes until they are up in the air ( that's all I can think of)....
Yuma is very hot. Especially in the summer. The F-5 does not have adequate bleed air at ground idle to provide any climate control.
