Pate de Verre
Veteran Obsolete
My work is battling on the Homefront, expanding more on the veteran lived experience and applying information about post-traumatic stress, stigma, and suicide; by using glass as a storytelling device.

The impulsive act of suicide is an ongoing tragedy that continues to cripple our nation’s military. Some of those who swore to serve and defend our beloved country are falling to this national epidemic. This work is a bold reminder about the exposed soft tissue, the act of suicide, and the finality to one’s life.

This work is becoming a foundational place I refer back to when things are spinning out of control. Glass is helping me understand more about myself while navigating throughout the world we are living in. I hope this little video and my work, can help stabilize a few thoughts for you too! Please share with someone who needs a little encouragement.

GeoffreY BowToN ~ Exposing _ Pate de Verre
Probably the most boring video i have EEEVER seen!!!!
Gracias por compartir el trabajo! Enhorabuena! Tengo una pregunta, se pone separador en el molde? No se elimina con el agua de la pate de verre? Muchas gracias 🙏🏼
You are doing everyone proud Geoff. Everyone of us, and them. Keep the faith..
Thanks so much!
@@geoffreybowton6111 I've listened to you now 3,maybe 4 times...and drifted back into time. Time was nothing to us then, but somehow, over the course of days, hours, long nights and into years now, it carries more weight than that ruck I carried. In 2019, I buried 27 people beginning with my younger and only brother. 2 weeks later, I was a pallbearer atmy commo mans funeral, the last of my team from Vietnam. Then, not even a week had passed and I was called again, to escort another one, and then another one and another and another and it all began to run into each other . What you've done here, has done alot , much in fact, to bring many eyes to bear on this entire issue of the aftermath. You've done great. I only wish,I could do even one tenth of this but for me, the greif and pain seemingly never ends. I've pressed up against that looking glass trying to peer into the past and the future, both at the same time to find a purpose. Sometimes, it gets , dicey at best. Soul shattering at the worst. All I can do is to offer you thanks, and to me, that just doesn't seem to be enough, but it'll have to do, for now. My most profound thank you to you, sir. 9th Infantry Division 7th SF Grp ARVN 1972-1975 18D30 US Army from Washington State.
I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. It is ever so important that this fight continues and we can express hope, healing, and gratitude to those who sacrificed for this great nation. I wish you and your family all the very best. 🇺🇸
You and your work are so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story thru this beautiful technique. As the mother of a disabled Iraqi /Afghanistan Vet, I am well aware of the difficulties that come with transitioning back to "regular" life. Thank you for working to bring awareness of the plight of our Vets.
thanks so much for this. I love pate de verre but could not deal with making and removing plaster moulds, I am no longer strong enough. But I may try in one of my moulds now I have seen this..........................
A piece of shit, from the category: “I am an “artist,” as I see it.”
Hermoso trabajo!!!!, gracias por compartir tus conocimientos, son de mucha ayuda.🙏🙌🙋♀️
New to all this, so thank you for the video. Just a little hard to hear what you say over the background music.
Thanks for sharing!😊
Lovely!!! Want to try this technique some day. I'm not familiar with Gum Arabic. Is a Liquid stringer medium ok to use?
Not in this case
The gum is much stickier
Gum Arabic holds glass together better than the glass tac materials
Hi!, keep at the work. From what you said, I think you might be interested in this channel 👉 #drjohnaking. I find him encouraging and insightful.
Amazing work! what ratio of gum arabic do you use?
Dear Geoffrey, I love your work very much!! Can I ask which firing curve do you use? (sorry for my English) Thank you so much ❤
I am firing in the slumping range, at 1265
🤣😂
🤣
Can't wait to see the finished piece.
Shit happens 😂🤣😂 over and over again
😂
Your PDV's are the best I've ever seen out there!
Hi Geoffrey, it's a fascinating technique. I'm just wondering. Do you use any release agent on the mold? It looks like a standard slumping mold, and glass normally would stick to it without a release agent or fibre paper.
Yes!! I am absolutely am using kiln wash in the mold. You will even find, as in casting, a small residual amount may build up on the exterior of the glass surface (even inside the glass). I will scrub wash and then hot wax the forms. This should help clean out the resid/wash.
If you give it a try, send me a FB dm pic!
Yes, using a kiln wash first
Yes, I use Bullseye kiln wash
I was also wondering kiln was vs zyp
Loved watching your process. I've been wanting to try Pate de Verre for a long time but I just haven't wanted to work with plaster and clay to make the mold. Thanks for sharing. Your pieces are beautiful!
Yes, that is exactly why I am using this process. To get directly into the glass work and tool usages, before taking on the mold making. MM is an art form in itself !!
Looks almost prehistoric! Your patience and care would serve you well as an archeologist 😉 I love the colors you chose too👍🏻
ha, thanks so much
Yes it does look prehistoric . What is it Geoffrey.
It is wood. I used a few samples crammed into this piece, it's a messy looking thing, it just hangs on the wall so I can look at it for the sample
Well my friend I loved watching every minute and the end results beautiful ❤️
Thanks for taking the time to watch!!
Really nice! Low fire? What temp?
You can fire at Temps in the slumping ranges, I tend to go lower just above the softening range at 1265
I love your use of the form. Thanks for sharing!
That's neat!
Fascinating…is the bowl of water to add water to the packing process or to clean the instrument as you work? Love love your work
Rae, it is to clean the tools as I am working. I use an abundance of Gum Arabic in my glass batch, so naturally the build up on the tool becomes problematic. Especially, when I want the surface to have no waves, or wavyness to the surface.
