When you plunge down, you can just hold one direction and that is the direction you go.

I'm pretty sure Tursmore is wrong. It's determined by which direction you press first in the slam input. Left, then right - bounce left. Right, then left - bounce right. You can also bounce directly upwards if you press both at the same time, but the input window for that feels pretty strict.

If you want to go vertically up you hold/press nothing after ground pound is input, hold the direction you initially input when ground pounding to move in that direction

This is a good idea will have to see about a better strat for that room anyway

a tip on making the final boss faster: if you let go of the button opposite you want to go during a bounce you can go backwards. I was able to get three hits on the boss before he finished his first pass, and I think it saves time on the room prior too.

correct this can be done in a few places, I had a lot of flubs in this run and I'm being especially careful on the boss because I'm trying not to die as much but yes I have also done the faster kill in the past but not my most recent personal bests

I wanted to go to all the areas in one run since it’s challenging to finish hell runs while doing that. You have to do worm and mothership in the ice caves in that order so that the moai spawns on the second time you enter 3-4 while on a hell run so that you can have a max hell% run. The haunted is just for fun because it’s a random chance that it spawns in a level and it also has a high chance of showing a visible Black Market because of how thin the walls are in the layout. I’d already gone to the haunted mansion/castle by the time I got to ice caves so I decided to make it a haunted max run

Also my time entering Ice caves was ok but not that fast so I figured it was time to pivot to a run that I had a slower time in that I could beat with an ok pace

-I'd rather not think about how we exit the worm 🗿 -Thanks! Sounds like you're doing pretty well, with a bit more practice you'll be finishing runs. Keep at it! -The climbing gloves in Spelunky HD are different than in S2, have different inputs when using them, and don't exactly help very much in a speedrun setting. They cause muscle memory issues when speedrunning and are more cumbersome to movement quite often, but does have niche uses. Also if you're using a jetpack, the ability to maneuver with the gloves is not very helpful as they will have you grab walls when you would want to fall fast through levels while up against walls to line up your movement and then flutter the jump button to cancel momentum. With the gloves you will get stuck on those walls you're up against as you fall, which slows you down in a speedrun. Hope this helps as to why people dislike the gloves in this game, can't speak to its uses as much in S2 since I don't play that game very much nowadays, but I didnt particularly like how they felt in that game. I'm sure they're more helpful if you have one of the capes or the hoverpack
