The 1990 Welsh Brewers Challenge featuring BTM Band and BTM Quartet
This video is the winning performance of the 1990 Welsh Brewers Brass Band Challenge a competition that was the brainchild of Dave Howard. Each competitor had to play an own choice test piece, a set test piece and an entertainment program. A brilliant format!

A collection of photographs celebrating the life of Vernon Sulway born on 5th December 1942 and lived a fabulous life until sadly he passed away on 23rd February 2021, aged just 78. He will be hugely missed by his family and all who knew him. Backing music is provided by BTM Band and brothers Jeff and Mark Hutcherson playing "I'd Rather Have Jesus" and "Watching The Wheat" respectively.

This is Mark and BTM Band's version of Pantomime originally composed by Philip Sparke for Nicholas Childs. Mark performed this piece in the British Open Solo Championships held at The Old Mill on the Pier, Wigan in November 1990 to become British Open Solo Champion. The band are directed by David Maplestone.

This is Chris Thomas playing Stardust. BTM are conducted by David Maplestone and this piece was part of the bands' program for Listen to the Band broadcast in 1991. At the time Mark Hutcherson was the 1990 British Open Solo Champion and Chris would go on to become the 1991 British Open Solo Champion so the band were very proud to have two Solo Champions in the band at the same time.

We have a lot to thank Cynon for - he did a great job in building the band to get to being ready to take on the tough challenges of the 1980s Championship Section in Wales.
I'm guessing this is 1989 if Nigel is conducting? Between Jim Gourlay going to Switzerland and Melvin White starting with us.
