Welcome to Greater Houston Living With Porshaé Brown!
Bravo! I am preparing to move to Houston, and this video was very honest and helpful! Thank you! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾✝️
bugs 😳
Ppl dont understand their making our city worse by moving here. Too crowded, too much going on, on the roads & js in general. I will get outta here one day
Houston actually has the largest medical center in the world. Not Boston. If you google “largest medical center in the world”, the results will show Texas Medical Center.
Looking for snall farm to ride horse raise chicken 5acres
I'm from Puerto Rico so heat, flood, mosquitoes, traffic, hurricanes are nothing to me. I think Houston would be a piece of cake so let's try it 😅🤔🍰
I’m in high ticket remote sales so no commute for me, I’m thinking l want to live in an area close to the good night life and brunch vibes…I’m still obsessed with turkey leg hut 😆
Midtown or the Heights
The population of the Houston metro area, which includes the suburbs, is over 7.5 million people. (2.3 in Houston city limits) When I grew up here, our(70s-80s) was population was a quite 500,000. Because HTX is spread out, we never thought we'd see the day of overpopulation. Property taxes are higher than GIRAFFE COOCHIE. The retail tax is tied with the highest in the United States @ 8.25%, morning traffic loosens up about 9:45a-10a.
Be careful in Houston. 7 out of every 10 drivers do not have a valid car insurance. Even if is not your fault, you’re screwed if you’re involved in a car accident.
What about weather conditions, like hurricanes ?
Any healthy or vegan food options?
No water breaks for outdoor workers. No medicaid for the poor. No abortion rights.
Ecactly. What’s not to love?🙄🙄 Have lived here for 13 years due to my husband’s work. Can’t wait to move away. Luckily we do not have school age children
@@mettenorsk8433 Polluted air and water, birth defects, child brides; abortion ban; brain-eating amoeba, bugs; power failures.
Annual power failures. Humid, miserable weather. Polluted air and water.
Just awful. Their is a reason Houston was named the 4th most boring big city in US. Downtown is just plain sad. Nothing going on at all. You have to drive 100 miles to get to anything. Liquor stores closed on sunday and close at 9 when open. Hands down the worst city I've ever visited
I have been here for decades, and I am moving away. Taxes, insurance, fess, traffic, crime. just the top few things why I hate this city.
Same
Used to live in Houston for 16+ years in Sandalwood/Lakeview off Memorial. Three lakes on Buffalo Bayou!!!
Been here 3 years now. Have lived in more than 8 states. Just because there's a lot of restaurants doesn't mean they are all good. Driving and getting to downtown is hell. What you don't pay for in state tax you do in freeway tolls. Weather sucks you never get a chance to open your windows and get fresh air. It's just too hot day and night. Groceries are expensive and not impressed. The biggest issue..........if you don't read anything else read this next couple sentences........every weather event be prepared to be without electricity for DAYS (that's in 100 degree weather). DAYS people not just hours, possibly over a week. If you want or need utility security DO NOT move to Houston. This leads to impossibly high home owners' insurance and car insurance. Ridiculous insurance rates. Pros: homes are still affordable. Gasoline is affordable. Lots of health care available.
People think when they hear diversity it means all these different groups all get together and sing kumbaya . Thats not how it is here ,eveeybody doing their own thing in their own space and other than work people not mixing like that . In the same vein if you not from here you are going to be lonely because its very cliquish here ,you cant really fit in if you a native and move to another part of town you will be an outsider let alone from another state . Or quite possibly a victim .
Husband and I live in Minnesota, Minnesota taxes are unbelievably high No good food, no diversity, horrible weather, the winter makes everyone depressed , we have even considering Houston for some type. I ate some of the best vegeterian food in Houston while I was visiting on a work trip. I still remember how good the build your own salad was. Super friendly people , amazing weather when I was visiting in the spring, back in Minnesota it was still sub 20 in the spring 😊
MN is boring. And lacks culture. It’s beautiful and laid back. I agree on what you mean I used to live there. Went to Eden prairie high school then moved downtown and stayed there until I was 23 now in nyc.
Pro: Houston has What-A-Burger's Con: None, Houston has What-A-Burger's
I loved living in Houston for a year when I was 15 back in 1996. I would never want to live there again now with a family of 8. It's way too hot and there's constant weather calamities.
No state income tax usually means high property.Texas and food tax
Yep. You don’t really save anything.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Houston metro area added 139,789 residents in 2023, which is a 1.9% increase from 2022. This is equivalent to one new resident every 3.8 minutes. The Houston metro area's population growth is attributed to two sources: people moving to the area and births outpacing deaths
It’s only traffic because yall wait there most of us houstonians drive off the road in the grass 🤣
You are a great real estate agent
Hi mommy, I love you
Great video
Pro: Economy and opportunity, Nightlife/Brunch, Thriving Young Professionals, BLACK CULTURE IS THRIVING! Suburban living is nice alternative to the city. Cons: Crime, Red State/Political Climate, Dating is trash, Big ass tree roaches, Beach is 45min away and is grimey.
Thank you for sharing! I recently started selling personal insurance in the Houston area from out of state. I look forward to visiting and checking out the town!
I think another con is high property taxes.
I’ve traveled to seven different cities and lived in seven different cities for that reason of being in the medical field and hands-down to Htown back when I was trying to get everybody to move here because if you’ve never been anywhere else, you don’t know anything I would tell them, Htown is the perfect placeto raise a family but now that I’ve come back home but I still love my city for what it is as well as trying to be helpful. It’s just a great place all day long.
And with the heat and the weather is because they’re taking all the trees it’s starting to be more concrete than what it is land and the ozone has really changed and the flooding comes from all the building and the fast building because of the fast pace people moving here
And with the heat and the weather is because they’re taking all the trees it’s starting to be more concrete than what it is land and the ozone has really changed and the flooding comes from all the building and the fast building because of the fast pace people moving here
Wrong. Remember Hurricane Harvey that completely flooded most of the city back in 2016? And last year's derecho disaster? Houston has been flooding for years, that's what happens when you have a city controlled by developers that has NO ZONING at all. Houston is just the next disaster waiting to happen. Does have good food, though, until your favorite restaurant floods out.
And with the heat and the weather is because they’re taking all the trees it’s starting to be more concrete than what it is land and the ozone has really changed
But we have everything to do and it’s a really good place to grow a family as well as the opportunity of having your children to grow up in diversity and not to mention thousands of things to do and if you check into it on certain days, it’s a lot of days that things are free or your children
The housing is going up because everybody’s moving here from Chicago New York, Washington and Houston is trying to make you guys feel comfortable when the people that come here they’re coming here because they love the land and they love how big the housing but now that everyone is coming they’re starting to build more and taking away land and it’smaking the houses and It’s making the cost-of-living and housing not so affordable anymore
We only have a lot of traffic because everybody is moving down here when it was just the people from Houston here everything was smooth
That is just a bunch of nonsense. I was lucky enough to be able to leave Houston forever in 2015, and traffic was horrible for years before that. It's only gotten worse since then, no doubt. But this fool has no idea what he's talking about.
My goodness 13 san Franciscos. 🤯 This is really ALOT.
For Houston to be such a large city it’s pretty impressive with the housing cost being affordable compared to the other large cities like Chicago and LA
Born and raised Houstonian. Had to leave. Crap traffic and really uncomfortable weather. Can’t be miserable everytime you leave the house.
Lets mention low salary, lack of jobs unless you are in healthcare, gas or oil and energy. I am struggling deeply with this since layoff from my remote job in the Northeast. Regrets ...often.
Lack of jobs??? No way. Houston is known to have jobs in every field. The trick is to get registered with a recruiting firm and have a recruiter find the job for you. A few good firms are Addison Group, ManPower, and Kelly Services
Nursing pay here is terrible!!!!
I work in the Medical Center.
If you don’t live in the inner loop you’re not in Houston, if it takes you 45 minutes to an hour to drive to the city you annt in Houston this is for anyone in the Woodlands, Sugerland, Pearland, Katy, Humble Cypress stop telling people you live in Houston you don’t
It’s suburbs of a Houston so they can still say Houston.
@@spicecreations1416no the suburbs of Houston are river oaks and memorial if your an hour away you in a whole other city especially if your suburbs has its own downtown I’m talking to you people in Tomball that say you live in houston
@@Flashback543 they are considered suburbs. Google it.
@@spicecreations1416 Hello
Lol. I live on the verge of Cypress, off hwy 6....guess what, still in HOUSTON. Please don't listen to randos on the internet. The only city larger in area in the contiguous states is Jacksonville.
I like your channel. I work in the city but live in Conroe. Have been here since July 2021. I will mention a couple of cons from a relatively new Comer perspective. I'm originally from DC and from December 2009 have lived in Texas. I've done the whole Texas triangle. San Antonio, Austin, DFW and now Houston. You appear to have a good balance between pros and cons. A little googling may help others in their decision. As far as long term, the city is sinking. The air quality is a concern for myself and others due to the proximity of the largest oil refineries in the western hemisphere. On may 29th Houston was voted the dirtiest city in a recent article. Btw the public transportation is under major development and will much better in 3-5 years. I know this because of inside knowledge as I work for the system in the technical space (not a driver). Also I considered Houston while living in San Antonio and noticed that the wages in my field at least (electronic controls and automation) have not kept pace. An example is the average was 29-$34/hr 7 years ago, several people from Houston at the time and people now that I'm here say it was 18-$25/hr. Now it's 28- 38 so it's a a lot closer to the present average of $32-$43/hr. Lastly veterans will benefit from the housing as using VA, we don't have to pay mortgage insurance and can move in with very little to nothing down. A lot of new builds offer low or no closing.
Great video! Native here! Always remember: Houston is an hour away from Houston 😂
amazing place to live and eat, unfortunately for me getting a job so far has been tough. Hopefully will find a job soon.
Wishing you all the best on your job search!
What is your industry?
I have not moved yet and I’ve been looking at the job market and it’s not great
Even the nursing jobs here are drastically lower pay than other states😫
Same! I’ve been looking for 10 months! Nothing
Just don’t move here at all! Come visit but go back home!!
The suburban area of Houston still has plenty of space for new comers.
@@GreaterHoustonLivingPorshae I’m sure it is, you’re a real estate pro. so I want you to get your money for sure. I’m a homeowner in central sw Houston and every frwy has traffic day and night now lol. Also being born and raised from here, the out of town folk are definitely changing the laid back vibe the city used to have. But again I wish you all the prosperity! Just venting as a Houstonian.
@@clubmbrsonlytv Trust me, I understand.
lol 😂
Houston is not a great city, very over rated by native Houstonians! I was born and raised in Houston and bounced when I went off to college in 2004 in New Orleans and never left. Best decision ever, Houston lacks any unique cultural or history, its all very generic and similar to other cities established after the 1800s. Texas is too conservative, Greg Abbott is so mean, and the Republicans control the state. Yes Louisiana is a red state but I betcha we've had more Democrats as governors compared to Texas. Texas doesnt even have a casino. Lets not forget about the ridiculous strict liquor laws, and Houston has some of the highest number of drunk drivers compared to New Orleans. In New Orleans you can buy liquor from the gas station any day or time lol. Also Houston lacks southern charm or hospitality. Almost forgot about the wack Mardi Gras celebration in Galveston; it will never compare to New Orleans Mardi Gras not even Metairie Mardi Gras!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 Houston is a fly over city; never on anyones bucket list, please dont forget that.🤣
Sorry you feel this way.
I disgree..Greg Abbot is not the problem. The low wage and work opportunites is.
Houston is not on anyone’s bucket list? Are you sure that you were raised here? Houston tourism increased 45% up from last year and came in the top 10 for the most visited cities in the U.S. It is the only city in the south with 79 countries of representation of food, 135 languages spoken here and a black mecca for opportunities and home ownership. New Orleans is just a big gumbo bowl filled with crime, only one major type of food, no jobs, no opportunities, boring downtown, no diversity, highly segregated and country! HTown destroys New Orleans. No one is moving to Louisiana over Texas but you 😂
And lacks history? You couldn’t have been raised here. The Wards alone surrounding downtown are filled with unique history. You were never raised here and you clearly know nothing about it.
Are you serious? You actually sound ridiculous
Wow really informative and amazing content
Native Houstonian here. I hate that housing has doubled in prices in the last 4 years. It used to be so affordable. I also never thought that Houston would be one of the most desirable places to live. Also it’s super hot here. lol.
Yes, it's hot but it sure does have so much to offer.
After living in Scottsdale, Az, and experiencing 125f Houston has high humidity which is worse
Damn I lived out there for a bit now I’m heading back 😬
@@GreaterHoustonLivingPorshaeso true. I love it here.
