I don't mind any of the new voices except for Maria, the OG va performance was really good

I'm a new player in a mid of December 2024, I'm glad I choose the good old voices from 2001, thanks for comments! They helped me figure that out!

Okay, so I've just started listening to the new voices for the very first time today, and I think I figured out why they all sound so wonky to me. The actors were playing the wrong characters. How it probably should've gone: Liam O'Brien - James Sunderland. Laura Bailey - Mary Shepherd-Sunderland/Maria. Troy Baker - Eddie Dombrowski. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn - Angela Orosco. Not saying this will 100% fix everybody else's issues with their performances, only that it's a step in the right direction.

Feel like I'm the only one who prefers the new actors. Granted, my first time with SH2 was with the new voices, so I'm used to them. But after seeing how people apparently hated them, I tried to go back to the OG voices and I just couldn't fucking do it. After the first Angela cutscene, I quit out and swapped them on my replay. I disagree with the copious amount of people in the comments saying, "ERM, WELL, THE ACTORS ARE MEANT TO SOUND STILTED AND OFF BECAUSE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SURR-" It's nice copium but I'm sorry, it's just robotic/'bad' voice acting. At least for me. I prefer the theatrics of the newer voices because it makes the situation of Silent Hill seem much more grave, which it is.

Interesting to come back to this video cus most of SH2 fanbase is worshipping the remake's "better acting" and calling the OG SH2 acting bad.. Back in the day you'd get hate for saying you prefer some of the HD collection voices but at least now i can safely say that with the exception of Maria/Mary, who was great, every new V.A in the HD collection is superior.

Original: Real. Raw. Almost unaware they're even being recorded. HD: Generic Voice acting. (Except for Laura, who as a child still knew how to be real.)

lol, the HD "anyway" sounds freaking awful.

They really did just use the entire voice cast of Persona 4 and just threw them in here, and its completely awful. They all just sound like anime characters, since thats all they ever did pretty much. Thank god they learned their lesson from this and found actual good actors this time for the remake.

HD is good. Original is better.

The original voice acting was way better from the start of the game. Angela sounds mildly crazy the way she says "she's something WRONG with it" you just get an eerie feeling from talking to her.

Why is it so difficult for people to understand the original is perfect.

The OG voices are so perfectly awkward and dreamlike. I think the cinematic voice will suit the remake but not the OG game. The original VA reading Mary's letter is so perfect.

i think overall the new voice acting is superior, except mary/maria’s voice actor. she did her best but even she thought her voice was far too deep for mary/maria
