Makes sense in context: one reason why humanity has never looked alcohol the same way as other drugs is that it is so interconnected to our developement as a species that we cannot look it with the same disdain like say heroin or cocaine(Weed is starting to become normalized, but otherwise not many intoxicants outside of tobacco enjoy same status as Alcohol). Hell, only 200 years ago, US used Whisky as a currency and paid wages and goods with it. There was actually a real crisis over it. ruclips.net/video/wpc9GQEy0bg/видео.html But the Centauri have such a normalized relationship with alcohol which goes even further that of humans. They even see as their duty to be at least little tipsy and have such a normalized relationship with alcohol that they consider sobrierity to be a vice.

@@ghandimauler sure but it's quality storytelling. He is not coerced into becoming a monster, he doesn't have a tragic backstory like dark vador or many other villains. He is a funny character with some character flaws that we gloss over at first and also some qualities that make him endeering. At first he is even in his right, responding to unprovoked narn attack, you can take his side (and g'kar is quite ruthless as far as antagonists go). Yet these same character traits that we like (patriotism, acting to defend his people against the narns, à little bit of cunning ambition...) will lead him toward a path of pure evil (war crimes and then state crimes in occupied territory borderibg on genocide). That is excellent writing. The way the same actor can portray both the funny, carefree londo of the beginning, the warmongering yet haunted by his crimes londo of the middle seasons and the wise, redeemed, dying leader post war of shadows is also remarkable.
