How to Kill Yellow Jacket Wasps in the Ground
Can I use a seed starting mix for starting iris seeds?
Hai saya fauzi dari indonesia. Bagaimana cara saya mendapatkan benih bunga iris germanica?
I replanted11 years ago when I moved my Iris's from old house to new house. I just separated roots and have continued that way all 11 years. 2018 I had buckets full so I shared to my daughter in law for their new house. Now 2019 I have pods everywhere. So I'll try this way too. Thanks for tips.
Linda you are very welcome. Its fun to see what new colors you can come up with.
What if nature has already done it? I found them in a garden of a friends yard she lets me collect them how many years till they mature enough to flower?
100th Like! love the info!
I appreciated the planting video. I have planted my seeds in pots as you described and put them on the north side of the house in the shade this winter. We get down to the forties often and sometimes 30 at night. (Northern CA) Should I water them while they are outside during this germination period? Did you make the second video?
It's September -- can I plant the seeds and keep them in my garage until May? We are going into winter, snow & 20 degrees. Also, should I water them during the winter storage?
Link to seedlings video referenced at end of video?
Hello! I live in a tropical zone (the Caribbean) is there sometime else that I would need to do?
Hello Wendy. Irises are harder to grow in tropical regions because they don't like the humidity. If you are gioing to make seeds and grow them make sure you put them in the refrigerator for about 5 weeks before you plant them.
Tell me Mark, I see you put the whole pot into the fridge. Could I place the seed themselves into the fridge, as it's the home fridge I have. do you follow. Thank's Danny.
Danny Davies Hi Danny, yes I think you could just put the seeds i the frig. I have never tried it but it is worth a try. I have heard that there is something in the seed however that needs to be washed away by watering like a hormone. So it still may need to be in wet soil. Let me know how it works out.
They look like very small iris plants. I don't have any pictures. If you plant the seeds in Sept/Oct you will see little babies in the spring.
good luck selling your house....
hi, just watched your video about planting iris seeds. do you have a picture of what the seedlings look like right after germination?
thank you fort his video. do you have a picture or video of what the seedlings look like? I have some trying to germinate and I have no idea what they are supposed to look like when they come up...
Yes, you can plant them outside. They just need cold and rain this winter to start growing in the Spring. Make sure the soil is good. Maybe add some potting soil and watch out that the weeds don't smother the seedlings in the Spring.
Hello! I "rescued" a number of irises from the roadside (on my property, but on the right of way). I put them into a raised bed with very rich mix of topsoil and compost. I think that they are the blue flag variety and had probably been in the same place for at least 60 years. They thrived and bloomed and also gave me a number of pods.Pods are beginning to open. I live in very SW Virginia. Should I plant them as you directed and leave outside and wait for them to grow in spring?
Hello reklawj9, no i did not make any more videos. If your seeds are in the soil, you are good. Needs to get cold and wet, then in the Spring you will see baby iris plants come up. Make sure you water them when they are little. Good Luck!
at what point can they be separeted and planted? also at point do they develope a bulb?
Hello Wallysmi. Plant the seeds in the ground about 1/2" deep and about 6" apart. remember where you planted them. In the Spring you will see little iris plants come up. They will not bloom the first year. Good luck!
Well, It's Sept here in PA and the Iris seed pods are beginning to split open. Can I plant them directly into the ground now and will they come up next spring? Or, should I harvest the seen now, save them for planting next spring and if so how should I save the seeds? wallysmi@aol.com
Did you ever make the second video? I have 2 sets of seeds in soil and was wondering what comes next thanx j9
Nice video. I just got one of my Dusky Challenger to give me a seed pod (not sure the cross but I love Dusky Challeneger anyways). My question is, should I plant the seed this year or wait until next Spring. I live in Atlanta and we are heading into Summer. Thanks!
