I think I flew on 1 of these in 96 from either FAT to DFW or LAX to DFW
when we at American still did things the right way!
These had such an amazing looking flight deck compared to a DC-9 or mad dog.
Wish they had kept them around longer
Same these came to Brazil... they were flown on OCEANAIR/AVIANCA
I’m so grateful stuff like this is on RUclips. Thankful to all the people out there who have this old footage, promos, and misc. videos on their collections that they decide to digitize and upload for everyone to see and get nostalgic over😊
God, I miss the Fokker 100s. Cozy and comfy aircraft. One of my earliest memories flying was on a American F-100, returning home from a vacation in San Diego (stopped over in O'Hare) - I remember, in spite of being both only 4 at the time, and damn tired, being carried out of the plane by my Mom, and it snowing as we walked down the airstairs and met up with our neighbor who took us home.
I remember working on this plane when American went head on with Legend Airline out of Love field where due to Wright Amendment the airlines could not fly nonstop to any major airport with more than 50 seats. American converted this plane to 50 seats the whole plane was First Class we served Champane and Mimosa to whole cabin before takeoff, the whole cabin got hot towels, hot nuts, nice steak meal, ice cream sundaes, free liquor and vine, Due to high level of service we had four flight attendants for 50 passengers. With that kind of service Legend went belly up.

When flying was flying and airlines were airlines. So cold and generic now. Miss those silver birds.
Nothing but 737s and a320s now sadly
I love Fokker aircraft ❤️👍🇧🇩
2:24 DOES ANYONE SELL THOSE BEIGE AA SEATS ANYMORE? I REALLY WANT ONE😬
Might have to call up a boneyard if they still have some. If I recall correctly you may be able to get them on auction. Some of AA’s older 757s had the same seats and never received a retrofit so you may be able to snag them if you really do. They’re really comfy!
@@peachworks_en oh ok, that’s great! Thanks lol
@@friendlysky7674 They do also occasionally pop up on E-Bay (as in, once in a great while - 757 and A300 F seats. even rarer, I've occasionally seen American 767 F//J seats with the electronic lumbar support, sheepskin & leather, and foot/leg rests.
Is the music supposed to sound like that?!
Yes, it was 1991.
These gave the DC9 and MD80's a run for their money on Rocket takeoffs alone. they also ignored the rule of No smoking on takeoff.
I flew on the little angel in the sky from DFW to McAllen in 1991-2003.
Great little mainline aircraft. Only ORD based Flight Attendants for American had to be trained on these.
That is not true I was DFW based and I had to be trained on it too also LGA based flight attendants got trained on them
Yup, former LGA FA here. I got drafted one-month out of the charm farm to become F100 qualified. Saw it every reserve month and I did like it. Different times back then.
The Fokker Cockpit kinda reminds me to the A300B4 and A310 cockpit
I didn’t know they had a Fokker 100 for a WHILE.
I remember flying on a Fokker 100 was back in 2001. Those were the good days. I sure miss those air crafts.
they seem to be like the European/Dutch version of the 717 before there ever was a 717
Compared to the comfort level today onboard coach class of U.S carriers, the F100 wasn't too bad. It served a role in American's fleet that worked for many years.
A fantastic airliner.
An overtime Machine, made money fixing them, Dutch Oven A/C systems under powered for DFW in the summer. It was a business jet sold as an airliner. The doors had rings you could lock it with a padlock from the outside.
@@paulh5027 It could have been Moore beautiful if they added Sharklets.
AA F-100 (1991-2004)
Several F100's flying in Avianca Brasil (old OceanAir) after flying on AA.
wait , American Airlines got a fokker 100 ???
Yes, and at one point you could see them parked out at Roswell International Air Center ether waiting to be cut up or sold. Don't know if they have any left now. I guess some went onto Helvetic Airways, and I see Carpatair has some from You Tube videos as of 2017.
75 of them
Not any more but right now we have identical twin Airbus A319 we call it Baby Bus
They first landed in ALB to clear customs. When AM arrived it had so many writeups that Crandall ordered returned to Holland. After crew rest it was flown back the following day. The first snow storm here it was realized there was no slush correction published either. From a fleet service point of view these planes were a nightmare to work with tiny bellies. Then comes a weak APU which couldn’t cool the cabin properly. Thus it became the ‘dutch oven”! Then properly called the “Barbie jet”.
Always been a big fan of A/A and as a passenger the F100 was just okay, and certainly not worthy of the moniker of 'Luxury Jet". The part of the video that showed a meal being served made me laugh - of all the times I flew on this type there wasn't anything that could even be called a snack served. Oh for the days of the great 727 and MD-80's!
Why did AA call their planes Luxury Jets back then?
The 727 was the best ever. Miss them terribly!
My dad flew for American airlines and retired flying md80
I think the name luxury jet was used because the previous planes used on the routes flown by the Fokker were propeller planes. Anything is luxurious compared to that.
Maybe in the beginning, but in later years..., a hot breakfast (eggs) or cereal in main cabin from NYC to YYZ (1hr 35mins). I know, because I worked them. Oh, did I also mention only two FAs and one full working galley at front? A challenging beast to handle - but somehow we managed.
Thanks for sharing. Life long customer of AA, but never went aboard this type of plane. PS: I love the music LOL. What artist is it by?
American's Fokker F-100s were comfy - whether in Coach or First Class. I miss them.
I can't figure out one thing why America got rid of the Fokker 100 and the netherlands is still flying it?
I'm not agreeing/disagreeing with you but I will say I so so agree! American didn't need to cut those jobs!!!
Not a problem!!
@PaleBit Alien Their weight makes the CASM cost prohibitive for U.S. carriers.
harvesting revenue the Netherlands in this design really nice
Historic
tiny cramped plane with very limited overhead storage rack, noisy engines and extremely bumpy in turbulence. Good riddance F100!
Niskan40 I agree with you.
lies and reliable jet
When did AA stop flying them?
2004
2007
Fucks up with the music
Yeah, it's skipping ahead by a few frames at a time, you can see the video jump as well especially on pans.. Rather annoying. The music would be from an ancient music library from 1991, that no one cares about anymore.
@@marcusdamberger nah i do care about the music and imma 'bout to find it. Guess i'm one of few with good music taste in this modern time..
Luxury Jet????
Porsche Yes! absolutely .."Luxury Jet" was a standard moniker on most all American Airlines single aisle airplanes including the B757-223
luxury liner
When you look back on this now, it is sort of coming full circle, as some of American's predecessors flew Fokker airplanes during the 1920s and 1930s, while US Airways/America West also flew the F100 and F70.
coming full circle? lol. Those planes are gone. This video is from 30 years ago.
@@marks6663 just what i was thinking
this was one of the first planes I flew on in AA's fleet back in the 90's
Me too. Newark to O'Hare in 1997.
I flew a F100 ORD-HNL back in 1994 ....quite the aircraft
@@zoggin4181 DC-10 from ORD-HNL not a Fokker 100.
@@zoggin4181 That's funny.
