How To Fix Everything Wrong With The AMT/ERTL 1969 Ford Fairlane Cobra Torino Model Car Kit Part 1
AMT's 1/25th scale 1969 Ford Fairlane Cobra / Torino Fastback model car kit has been on the market in many different forms since it was first issued in 1968.
First appearing as a factory stock car with the option to build it as a drag racer, the model was updated in 1969 as the Ford Fairlane Cobra.
Then in 1971, AMT released a series of Modified Stocker kits that were earlier annual kits that were converted into dirt oval track race cars.
These model cars included opened wheel arches, huge tires, exterior crash bars, bumper over-riders, and side impact bars.
AMT severely altered the original molds in order to add these modifications, hence destroying the first issue kit.

If you have any other issues with this kit, (And I did find one of my own too) please let me know and I will try and investigate them and put them to the test in another video.

I see that the rear Cobra badge seems to move around that trunk lid on different people's cars though. however, that's a small detail compared to the rest of what's going wrong with this thing! If you have the Cobra decals, it's not a problem to place the logo where you want it. If you have the molded on trunk lid and no Cobra decal, you are stuck...and that's the issue in my case.

Glad you enjoyed it. Usually I use 1200 grit between coats. 1500 is also good. Those grades are sold "over the counter" here in Canadian hardware and automotive stores. However, I have an old LGM polishing kit that starts at 1800 and goes to 12 000, but that's getting to the point of polishing out the top coats for a mirror finish. - so those are more special.

You are welcome. In my build videos, I am not getting "Super-detailed", like adding engine wires, valve stems, heater hose lines, and other things of that nature. (Although I might consider that later on - build one from the box and build another of the same kit and add in those details as a separate video.) For now, I am just trying to get the models to fit together as they should. Sometimes that does require certain items like Tamiya putty and pieces of Evergreen Sheet Styrene or Plastruct, or even just letting the viewer know that they should remove something from the chassis or body to get the fit tight. Nothing too complex, but will get the kit together the way the manufacturer intended...like how I solved the issue with the Model T suspension geometry.

It's great your doing a few versions of the same and im doing similar with the vatious Mustangs and enjoying the steady progress on each, id like to do some as Customs like how I remembered them in the 1970s, jacked up, side pipes, spoilers, traction bars, bonnet scoops, whiplash aerial, slot mags,it was a scene that went from the States to the UK and most youngsters had Ford Escorts with the bit's I mentioned normally black and flamed plus bubble wheel arches, my first car was a mk3 Cortina GXL with the Pinto engine, model making is fun and nostalgic it rekindles old memories and new ones too. Hi Trevor, good video! In real life, the engine in the 1966 Batmobile is a Ford 390 cubic inch FE Series "big block" with a four venture (four barrel) carburetor. The instructions in the 1966 Batmobile model kit does indicate the real life engine, the Ford 390. In the mean time, the instructions on the 1968 DC Comic Book Batmobile show the identical engine. Ford engine dark blue (royal blue) would be correct, Ford engine light blue (baby blue) would be incorrect. On the engine drive belt assembly, the unit closest to the steering shaft (left side) would be the power steering pump. The unit on the right side would be the alternator (closer to the battery). You are correct in regards to the transmission pan, it is a Ford C-6 transmission. The unit on the right side of the instrument panel (dashboard) in front of where Robin sits is a type of compass (direction indicator), as so on the 1966 Batmobile. Please reply. Dave...

If I May, I'd like to see ALL those 3 in 1 kits done like your 49 Ford Coupe video. BEST UNBOXING I've seen to date, EXCELLENT VIDEO

Hi Trevor, Just found your "show and tell vids", it's great to see how you progressed with each model and enjoyed/enjoying the journey, I watched your vids, the 1965 Revell mustang I did with just glue, the second the Revell 1968 Cobra Jet got it's 1st brushed coat after I followed your instructions and flatted it with 1200 then applied the next brushed coats and it looks good, im keeping this one at just 2 coats and some putting together over the weekend, thanks to your paint brushing vid it helped me lots for a brush mark free finish. The next will be a 1965 Hertz 350 Mustang but in blue and that will get 3 coats with your thinning method ie 7 parts paint to 1 thinner, revell number 51 and be single colour again like the "Dealer Promo Models", later on next models I will try 1 clear coated and 1 where the last coat is a mix of paint and clear, i've heard a a womens blusher brush is good to paint with and interested, but you have with your effort and vids got me ingo lovin brush painting. Though long ago, for a while I brush painted lift trucks back in 1983, I forgot to say I used some of that paint to brush on a Scalextric Datsun 260Z and still have it. As always best wishes to yourself, loved ones and fellow viewers.

Glad my videos inspired you to try (And later love) brush painting. - Before you try thinning down the blue paint, check to see how thin it actually is. I recently painted a model with Testors 1111 dark blue and the paint in the bottle was as thin as water, so I didn't thin it any further. I ended up painting 4 coats because the thinness of the paint made it quite transparent. In the end it looks great. - good luck on your future paint jobs!

Interesting, I believe the big wheel arches are remnants when this car was a modified stocker like the 65'Ford Fairlane and others, those kits have the big slicks. I'm going to get this torino kit for the nascar cars I have been building lately. Thanks for sharing this video Trev, take care and have a nice weekend

The rear cut-out lines are actually remnants from the 1968 Dragster kit, as are the chrome plated exhaust dumps. I'm making a full review and build video for this kit, so I've seen a LOT of articles, pictures and videos recently.

I have the newest release of these kit and I have a old chassis, the same as what you have the pins are in different spot, the chassis with the pin in the wrong spot if look at the other side where the screws holes bos are, the pins are not center to those

For 30 plus buck why didn't they rework the hole rear end and make worth our harded earned money it's like a promo toy you can't raise the rear and put big tires without great deal of work its just a cheaper way to produce a kit maybe it's just sad money down the drain again

    • @MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage
      @MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage 20 дней назад

They are just working off the old mold. Saves them time and money, but I agree...if inflation is driving up the prices of models, we should be getting the quality with the higher price. Sadly, there are more old tools out there than there are new ones. Your best bet is to buy kits from AMT that you know the tools are new, but that means you would be buying car subject matter from 2024. (Modern cars).
