The plan was to go to Costa Rica's most popular tourist destination, Manuel Antonio, and make a video about it. That didn't happen. Instead, something much cooler happened. Jacó, Costa Rica: Scenes from my First Trip

Jacó is one of the most convenient and comfortable beach towns in Costa Rica. It's only about a 90-minute, drive from SJO airport and is the closest beach town to the Central Valley. This $1 USD meal in Costa Rica surprised me!
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.5 лет назад
The cost-of-living in Costa Rica can be expensive or cheap depending on your point-of-view. It is the most expensive country in Central America, yet the cost-of-living is only two-thirds of that in the United States and Canada. I think that everyone can agree that a restaurant meal that only costs about one US dollar is a great deal. If you are considering moving to Costa Rica or visiting for a...
This was a very good video. Introduction to Puerto Limon, Costa Rica... in a wonderful format and accurately explained. Take it from Me ,a native Limonense, now residing in Brooklyn, New York. I just went down and around Memory lane.(Tonite, Wednesday ,December 6 th.,2023) Thank very much.) PURA VIDA.♥ (Raul /Pecos♪♫♫♫ The Acrobat / Dancer.) ♦Gracias.!!!
Loved watching your Cahuita video. I lived there for 7 years back in the 90's. Black Beach and the Reggae Bar were my hangouts, along with Banana's Restaurant a bit north of Black Beach. Back then there were only three phones around, the occasional car and a couple of pick up trucks. There weren't so many people visiting like now. What is now Coco's Bar use to be The Vaz. It was the place to go dancing any time. As far as the rainy season - I loved it, too. Cold and rainy is not so much fun, but warm and rainy I have no complaints about, Cahuita is a beautiful place with the jungles and all of the wildlife and plant life, the ocean and beaches. So much fruit around. The food I love and still cook Caribbean food often. Enjoy your travels!
Was thinking of going to Puerto Viejo at the end of November (26) into December (3)You think it will be super rainy? Thanks
With those crime reports ,i did see on instances of a mass shooting. I will take my chances there.
Looks like uncivilized nonsense. Sorry
Going on a cruise ship in February 2024. Limon is one of our stops. Will the animal rescue be open
Most likely yes. You can reach out to them via their website at www.jaguarrescue.foundation/
Rain is amazing..... Im just so scared of mold because of the high humidity
Something tells me that when Todd/Control City Freak covers international highways. People are going to want Todd to cover the highways in Costa Rica because of this city/province. in case if you’re wondering, Limon is a running gag on his channel because he covers highways & highway signs.
Thank goodness for RUclips analytics for bringing your channel to my attention 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🤙🏻
We only have time this late august? Is it similar weather as what you showing in the video?
I am not sure about August.
*Promo sm* 👊
I went first of February and the weather was so beautiful, the beaches were glorious especially the Black Beach. Everyone was so nice and helpful I’m 73 went by myself met lifelong friends I’ll always go back
That's so wonderful! I'm glad that you had a good time. Totally agree with you about the black sand beach. Just glorious.
@@chifrijojones I agree with you that the black sandy beaches are beautiful, but the only problem is that they get really hot from the heat of the sun and you cannot walk on them comfortably without wearing scandals.
@ True that!
Thank you for your video and perspective of Limon. Your presentation was positive and fair.
Thank you. I know what you mean. It means a lot to me.
Take 20 mg. astaxanthin a month or so before going to the beach and you won’t have to use much sunscreen, if any.
I have never heard of that. I’ll check it out. Thank you.
I have personally tested it out on myself in direct Texas desert sunshine in July. I took it every day from May to July and it worked! I would have been one horribly cooked fool and very embarrassed at a family reunion had it not.
I always chase waterfalls :)
One of my all time faves too! They are also called ground cherries in the US. You can find them at farmer's markets here too! They are addictive.
I love them so much!
We met an art gallery owner in October 2022 and he gave us an extensive history lesson on Limón. I once lived in Colón, Panama and both areas remind me of each other. I look forward to visiting Limón again during the Afro-festival season.
That's cool! I need to put Colón on my list of places to visit.
Super boring video...not helpful at all
What was the whole mask situation like over there? Were heavy restrictions enforced or were people left to be free?
Right now there aren't any mask requirements except maybe in medical facilities. I just spent a few weeks in the Central Pacific and Central Valley and didn't see hardly anyone wearing them.

this place is a great town I will do a video about it
I look forward to seeing it!
Do you know how many table spoons needed to be used per cup of coffee?
The standard ratio for brewing coffee is 1-2 tablespoons of ground coffee per 6 ounces of water - 1 tablespoon for lighter coffee and 2 for stronger coffee. That 6-ounce measure is equivalent to one “cup” in a standard coffeemaker, but keep in mind that the standard mug size is closer to 12 ounces or larger.
Visited Puerto Limon and Puerto Viejo in July this year and LOVED it! Of course, I am Black and am somewhat partial. LOL! I'll definitely go back many times in my lifetime.🙂
Uma boa tarde para todos !
Thank you for sharing the video
Chifrijo is a food that is served in many restaurants in Costa Rica
It's one of my favorite foods.
Yeah good to have McDonald's the beginning of the end . People will start to eat this fast food after a generation or two Costa Rica will start to become obese .. then more cooperations will sneak in with the promise of more jobe more money then the little home cooking little man restaurants will shut little by little .... like in PuertoRico all u.s.corporations Walgreens Walmart Wendy's mcDevils burger King. And the police down there are some of the biggest thieves ! Believe me 8 know they might not mess u gringos to much but Believe me they take money off the people ..
Looks like paradise.
Maybe you should try to speak spanish without so much of an English accent, LOL, Your spanish is very flat, LOL
I am going to PR soon and watching lots of videos. Your video was the best one. Thank you.
Headed to Costa Rica early next year. Spending one week in Puerto Viejo. I cannot wait 😆😆
I hope that you have a great time!
Nice video and I am planning to trip but don’t how to go about it
We are planning a trip here 2nd week of September this year. Apparently this is the “on-season” but it’s also the highest risked month for Caribbean hurricanes. What are your thoughts??
I’m not at all a meteorologist, so there are many others more qualified to speak about this. However, it’s my understanding and experience that strong deadly hurricanes rarely directly hit land in the southern Caribbean zone of Costa Rica. Apparently, hurricanes don’t form between five degrees of latitude of the equator. Also, northern hemisphere hurricanes almost always move northwest. Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is at 9.6 degrees from the equator. This means that Atlantic hurricanes tend to pass north of the southern Caribbean zone. The likelihood of a hurricane causing you any serious trouble is very low. If indeed your trip is impacted by a hurricane, it will most likely be indirect, from a hurricane that passes to the north. I hope that you enjoy your trip.
I've seen that, but just thought it was a type of flower or something, that's funny considering I'm Costa Rican lol
Ha! They are pretty tasty to me.
You guys are awesome! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the kind words.
Hello, question! Did you do a regular tour or a private one??
Nevermind! Lol I finally got to the part where you said you did a private tour. Thanks!!
@@cbxjsjs Sorry for my delayed response. We did a private tour because I wanted the freedom to shoot a lot of video. I suspect that the group tour is good too.
Nosara has a lot of coco taxis.just an FYI.
That's good to know. I've spent a good amount of time in Sámara but not much in Nosara. Do you recommend it?
I enjoyed seeing different areas through your lens. I can't wait to visit and experience it for myself. Thank you for showing different angles!

Glad you liked those. I’ve just started making shorts. Thanks for the kind words.
Great video!! I kinda felt like I was listing to a weather report..you have a nice voice! Lol
“In today’s weather…” 😂 Thank you.
The restaurant/hotel is Playa Bonita also...I think. I stayed there several times. Great place
I'll have to put that one on my list.
Love this place. Hope I get to go back soon
I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cieneguita 1996-1998. It was so nice to see the area again! So many nice memories. Thank you. But if it's like how it was when I lived there, please be careful walking around Cieneguita (even during the day).
Regarding the sign mentioning “Playa Baños”; you were correct. It is a small beach in the center of the town called “Baños Beach”. Your friend is obviously not from Limón so he took the words on the sign literally…
Yup. Name of beach is baños.
I guess that I’m going to have to go back and investigate more. Darn! 😂
Isn't a Sloth really a Panda of the Tropics?
Would love to take a day trip to Limon, every time I visit Costa Rica and ask about it, the locals have no idea and tell me it’s dangerous.
It's unfortunate that many people here think to lowly of Limon... Hopefully you get a chance to visit some day (if you haven't already done so), you'd be surprised that not everything people say is true...
